Marsh listed at 190cm. Slightly awkward height considering he’s shorter than our Tom Lynch yet plays like a marking forward at times at junior level. 7cm shorter than J Cameron and Dan Curtin. Can get away with clunking them at junior level, but his height makes him a lead up forward, link man at HF or winger. Does that sound about right to you Mutineer ?

Other players listed at 190cm: Holmes, Lapinski, Banfield. Don’t exactly strike as overly tall players. Where as Marsh looks tall.

How early are some of you watching these guys? 2019 Marsh would have been 12 😮

Makes more sense :)
You do get to see these boys come through playing against your own children and tend to pay attention to either the really talented kids and follow them, or sons of former players.

I liked what I saw live from young Harry Thompson (son of Scott) last year, tough, has a few tricks and runs all day. Saw him play a couple of times for Immanuel, would only be 14-15? Could be one to keep an eye on for father/son.

Remember seeing a very young Matt LeRay, under 14s maybe? totally dominated for Golden Grove, what stood out was his marking and kicking 45-50m on both legs, no bother. Not much talk about Matt in this draft, was consistent in champs, overshadowed by Barker on the other wing. Wouldn't be against taking him with our 2nd pick.

He looks taller than 190cm. Either that or this draft year has short key defenders.

Gunston is 193cms - only 3cms different which is not much

wing/high half forward with his decent speed, endurance and penetrating kick.

Rookie Me have him at 190cm and they are privvy to the AFL draft testing, in fact they actually conduct the testing and measuring as the AFL's official Athletic Testing Partner

Im fully aware of marsh not playing 100 games for adelaide but to become father son for adelaide you need to play 200, vfl is 100. If marsh had played 100 for richmond mitch wouldn't be in the picture for Adelaide even though ben played 48 games for adelaide as opposed to 7 for Richmond
Father's SANFL career: The father must have played 200 or more senior SANFL games for a club in a competition before the 1997 season.

Ben was drafted in the rookie draft of 1997 he would never have been able to play 200 games for West Adelaide before 97?? After 97 it just defaults to 100 games for the AFL team.

VFL as in reserve games don't count for an AFL's club father sons, the VFL games only counted pre AFL existing.

Logan Morris at 191cm goes ok.

190 is midfield territory these days... not even that tall for wingman ... if he the best way that point then I guess you have to take him.

Who's the last 190cm drafted as a fwd that turned out to be a star? Gunstun? Hes not even as tall as him.

188cm James Sicily goes ok too
Georgiades 192cm
Tom Stewart 190cm

A couple defenders there but height isn’t everything

Don't mind the thought of taking Marsh despite the tweener height. Looks like a modern high half forward. Has enough agility and should build a decent tank, but also good overhead. Awkward matchup where you don't know whether to play a tall or a small on him.

Other draft thoughts from a casual follower:

I like Barker for our pick, might not have even been available at our pick without the injury. Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier, Matt LeRay and Balyn O'Brien other South Aussies that have something about them. Would be for a later picks though (LeRay may go earlier than expected). Jett Dahlitz is my pick as a late smokey, has some obvious areas to work on but some big positives too.

From interstate, have been really impressed with Hetherton, would be my pick if we traded up to a 2nd rounder. Maybe Greeves too if he really slid. Curtin looks decent but would rather that be a late pick. Byrne with a late birthday could be a surprise and has some big fans (Bucks). I still really rate Rodriguez and am surprised he has fallen down so far. Swadling from WA looked good too.

Do not want Ludowyke, just don't see it. Also wouldn't want to spend a first on Thredgold, Schubert or Phillipou, sorry to their fans on here.

Don't get the Ludowyke hate- he looks to have high potential.

Think this game he had Balta for company at times and looked the goods.

Maybe it's the not making the distance from inside 50, almost missing from 10m out, fumbling multiple times, handballing straight to the opposition etc.

The only plus I could get from those highlights is he's tall. Looks frighteningly similar to Himmelberg.

Ummm

You do realise that the 200 rule was for SANFL games dont you. For AFL matches its 100 games. just like every other team. Freo and West Coast were 150 WAFL games. Marsh didnt play 100 games anyway so it doesnt matter.

Agree with pretty much all of this - except Curtin and LeRay - think both struggle at AFL level. LeRay is right in Pear's hitting zone and wouldn't be mad.

Would've preferred a bonafide mid with our 1st but given we're picking around 20, Marsh would be a good result. Like that composed type player with high IQ and huge kick. Also would prefer Barker though and part of me wonders if the Marsh consensus is a smokescreen to stop clubs like Hawthorn or North taking Barker with their teen picks, thinking he'll get through to mid-late 20s.

Don't see the Ludowyke thing at all, think Schubert is a bit clunky - probably a 40+ pick in a year strong with talls. Key defenders are too easy to find later in drafts to take Thredgold with a first (and all our KPDs are young). Phillipou is the wild card, could be a jet, could be a total dud. Almost worth the gamble to get his brother home, who is a legit jet.

While we'll be happy for the extra 3rd next year, trading 48 (which will come in with all the points picks) has probably pushed us out of the really solid kids outside the top zone like Onley, Byrne, Hetherton and especially Oudshoorn-Bennier, who would be my pick out of that group. Puecker is a good shot of being there and the type of small forward we don't have.
