So.

Who thinks we're going to trade back in for another player early on night 2?

And who thinks we hold off until next year so that we have a big pile of picks to trade for established talent instead?
We hold those picks and get our established mid with them next year, ideally Humphrey or the dream in Butters. With our pick tonight I hope we take a swing on a mid.

What’s lost in West coast trade is they basically gave us a second rounder for nothing. They traded it so they would tactically bid on Murray thinking they would get Adinsall as they wouldn’t match. GC still matched. All they had to do was bid on Patterson after Uwland and they would have got there man. Massive balls up

They traded it to get Lindsay in think as we may have traded to dogs instead if West Coast didn't bite

Were we aiming for both as soon as the night started? Is there anyone we missed on?
The only players we were interested in pre-draft for our first were Sharp, Farrow & Grlj. Nairn was the player we wanted that we didn't think would last till 22 which was why we traded down to 18 initially.
He was our target after the first dozen.
Once those first three were gone we traded back a few spots to make sure we got Nairn. Trading for future 2nds was an unexpected bonus.
Our second was going to be used on Hetherton because I don't think anyone believed Schubert would be available. He was a very pleasant surprise to all concerned.

We're a club looking to trade in established stars . Could've had two firsts next year. Great starting point for a Humphrey or Walsh. We do lack some genuine star quality in the middle.
Weren’t you saying a couple of weeks ago that Hawthorn needed to stick and pick even if a future first was the prize as another first won’t be the key that unlocks a Butters/Humphrey deal?

Wrapped with our draft haul considering Grlj was off the table.

There is no point just taking midfielders with our picks because that’s what we need if the quality isn’t there. Stockpiling future 2nds gives us 12mths to see what Ward / Mackenzie / Butler / Anderson / Hustwaite have before using our assets to trade in to fill gaps.

Schubert will be a big boy once he fills out. After 3 pre seasons he will be good to go and by that stage Chol / Lewis will be in their 30s.

How? We still picked up 2 ~Top 20 picks and gained more capital to make trades next year. I fail to see the downside.
You don't see the downside because you're not a miserable tosspot.

Have a think through about literally everything said since our PF loss. Then have a think through about trade fortnight. Then think about what happened last night.

BTW: isnt Dear the Gunston replacement?
I would argue that regarding dear, he is the new modern day key forward who is very athletic, lean and has one hell of a jump on him.

Nairne is the more likely gunston replacement. Likes to get high on the wing, work his way back to to full forward and smart leads.

Yes we need mid field improvement, im sure having another year for ward, cmac, frenchie, butler we can get progression. A fit will day would be great. Again as to trade period, would you prefer us to leverage 4 years of first rounders for a 30 year old?

Please tell me what happened last night with the draft. I would give our draft a solid B+.

Would be better if you actually responded to my quote with valid arguments than a general non answer post.

I really hope we trade back in for Greaves. But I don't know if the club rates him or not.

Having 3x F2's means we would be best positioned to target bombers and blues firsts next year as they'll want to trade for points with Bewick and Walker.

Love the upside in these 2 boys.. Schubert was 10 days off next years draft class (born 21/12) and Nairn only moved up the ground late in the year.. to get a couple of F2s will help us at the trade table.. although the rules will slightly change again next year with only matching bids using 2 picks, our recruiting team knows what's going on

Agree. But I'm still not sure if they ****ed us also because we wanted and expected to get Lindsay.

Nairn looks good regardless.

We’ll be able to trade up in a super draft for another first next year pretty easily now. Someone will need points. Kinda wanna trade back in for NHH though

I really like NHH too. But can't see us trading in for him after taking Nairn

Interesting. So in hindsight if we hadn't swapped our 9 for 10 in trade week we would have had access to sharp . So what played out last night wasn't the ideal scenario but they made it work .
