I guess a low risk high reward player that we used to use the rookie list for, I think we have some other priorities we should address first before a KPF unless they see more as a ruck?

If we draft him, makes the recruiting of Maley stranger IMO.
Another key forward makes no sense, it should be Taylor Byrne or any of the remaining Mids.
A player like Joel Freijah who went pick 45, there will be some gems out there

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Marsh a long term Tex replacement? If so, grabbing Curtin now doesn't seem to make much sense given Thilthorpe and Fog already hold key Fwd roles long term, and Welsh is already a developing tall along with Marsh now.

Unless we are thinking at 200cm he can push into the ruck to replace ROB eventually? But then again we already have T Murray and Mcandrew as developing ruck backups, and then you chuck Maley in there too.

And if the thought process is maybe swinging him back, We already have a surplus of key backs as it is with N Murray, Keane, Butts, Borlase, Worell.

I think we would be better off taking a punt on another mid prospect at this stage. Am I wrong? Would love to hear other perspectives.

Different story if we had managed to trade up to Sharp. Just on that, happy that we at least had a crack instead of doing nothing.

That is the assumption, however, we may move in a different direction with Marsh as a prospect. Heck, even the talk and mucking around on the wing by westies opens up half back flank as an option (on top of the aforementioned wing).

Also, considering we have a star KPF in Thilthorpe, we might be eager to revisit a 4 key tall forward line with Marsh as a more mobile roaming tall, and another prospect (lets say your Maley/Murray/Curtin) taking ruck/KPF duties away from Thilthorpe.

I have a sneaking suspicion we are gonna trade up for Thredgold to sure up the KPD stocks of the next 5+ years.

You would have to assume that we will lose 1 of our 3 top guys next offseason. And Borlase is next man up (for now).

As much as we all want a mid, at this point of this draft KPD might be better value.

Reports are saying North will take Thredgold first up tonight, so I don’t think that’ll happen

Even if we had that desire to get Thredgold, it seems like NM are screaming out for a KPD. Can't see them handballing that pick.

Yeah as above, I’d put my house on Roos picking Therdgold.

So anyone think we may trade up for anyone?
I wonder if that pick swap we did with GC to clear out a late 40's pick for a what looks like good F3 in a stronger draft might be in anticipation of trading that with our pick 46 to move up the board a bit.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but if we were that keen in Sharp did we try and get up the order ahead of Essendon?
Sounds like we tried to do a deal with Essendon, but wasnt he always tipped to go there?

So it seems that Essendon picked Farrow ahead of Sharp was because they knew Melbourne were likely to pick Farrow but not Sharp. If we had Carlton's pick 9 then Essendon may well have been made to choose between Farrow (Melb) and Sharp (Adl), but the order they went with wasn't necessarily the talent order, just the order that was most likely to net both players.

Anybody saying if we had pick 9 we would have gotten Sharp is not taking this into account.

That would have to be for someone very good, since it would ruin our hand next year. I don't know whether such a player is there.
Is it really going to ruin our hand that much? You’d think if there’s anyone we need a 2nd to trade for, we’d just use a future pick again

Problem was that Melbourne were never shifting of their picks regardless of who Essendon took. And well we weren't getting Richmond's picks without a lot more collateral than we had.

Essendon played it smart knowing that Sharp was likely not on their (Melbourne's) list to take at 11 and 12. So Essendon took potentially a bit of a flyer at 10 hoping (taking a very educated guess) Sharp would still be at 13.

Us trading with Carlton for 13 pre seeing where people were drafted would have seen Essendon take Sharp earlier and therefore us not get who we would have hoped for in that sense.

Essendon then dangling the carrot to see of we'd sell the farm for 13 which we didn't which is fine but they take Sharp there.

As mentioned above smart by Essendon in all parts of the draft and trade aspects of this last night.

I think we're all hoping Marsh becomes a huge mid, aka Dawson.

Big, tall, great mark, great kick are amazing packages on mids. Very few doing that well, and all at the pointy end of best mids in the comp.

Still, being a gun forward works for me as well.

We hope every draftee becomes a mid at this point lol

There’s a reason Onley isn’t anywhere near the first round. Do we really need another mid with poor kicking and poor decision making? We already have Draper
Pretty obvious you've never ever seen him play.

I’m not slowing for academy bids as I’m not sure where they sit next year but we are near certainties to finish bottom 4-5 next year whilst you guys should finish around the top 4 so it could only be 8 or 9 picks between the two. The “two firsts” thing gets thrown around by the media but they neglect to mention that this years one is a pick swap and a downgrade at that. You would give us a first and a future first but we are giving up a first and a future second.
That deal is not great at all
It's better than the one you'll be forced to agree to in 3 years time.

You know we're already in his ear...and will continue to be.

If we have interest try him as a SSP?

Not in person. But I’ve watched a fair bit of vision. If he’s a big bodied mid with good disposal and decision making (as you’ve implied) why has he not been taken in the first round?
Consistency, he's the only mid left on the table that Rookie Me rated his ceiling as ELITE if all goes well.

So you've watched actual games he played in not just a few highlights reels.

Care to point outall these deficiencies in this Rookie Me footage?

Based on the Marsh selection, I reckon the plan is to have Ah Chee on the Wing and Curtin a FT mid rotating forward with Dawson.

Marsh to sit under and watch Tex for a year and chop in when he has his 4-5 rests for the year to get a taste.
Surely Curtin rotates off the wing more than forward, although he is versatile. I imagine he'd be able to rotate of the half back too despite having a bag kicked on him that time (especially as Ah Chee plays for us now)
