I'm a bit surprised that we are only taking Said in the rookie draft unless that info was incorrect, do we have 2 more spots?

NHH would be my choice if we had a spot, but I really wanted to see Voss on our rookie list as well. And Tex? Are we leaving spots open for Tex later on?

Byrnes has experience and is pretty good depth and can run all day.

Hopefully we stay fit and he doesn’t need to play much, but if called upon he can do a job.

If we are to rise up the ladder next year we need experienced cover/utility players.

If Banfield becomes a star and a one club player for us then it will really hurt West Coast and their supporters.

The Eagles gambled they could take him as a rookie and they lost.

Nice work Dalrymple.

Banfield is raw but looks okay. And he comes from very good stock.

Dad's first thoughts were, "isn't typical, @#$%ing Sydney" but then he was tickled pink with Banfield and Fincher. He now reckons we have the best Pou anyways and he agrees with me that if we really wanted him, we would have traded up.

I do think if he had been named Jevan Smith, we wouldn't have been as invested as others have pointed out.

Also, he thought re-drafting Byrnes was old Saint's stupidity and was ropeable about it

Well Im rapt we got Fincher who desereves his spot on the list.

Banfield is a tall 192cm midfielder who looks raw and a really late developer so he could be another Dalrymple special. For me his biggest strength is his over head marking, he is an exceptional mark for a midfielder.

Byrnes is a Lyon classic in the Eddy mould, works his arse off for the team.

I gather we just relist Patrick Said to the rookie list tomorrow and we are done.

Im a bit surprised we didnt find a way to grab another tall eg Ludowke, Hetherton or Ainsworth but I guess the club have their reasons.

Byrnes has always been in the groups training through the Christmas break. Always done the extra PT with Logan Austin and others. I love a guy who is gifted nothing and works his arse off to keep his career. Reward for grit and persistence.

If every kid with more talent had his attitude there would be a heap more superstars in the game.

I was discussing with the old man that we must be pretty happy with our big man stocks. I do also think Fincher is a good replacement for the likes of Sincs on the he line when Sincs eventually retires, as he is no spring chicken.

Banfield, Fincher, Ryan, Flanders, TDK and JSOS. A few handy players there amongst the new additions.

King, Howard, Butler, Henry, Phillipou, Dow all as good as new recruits too. Then the kids who need to get more games like Dodson, Boxshall, Travaglia, Tauru, Collard, Keeler, LOC etc.

There are going to be some good players in the VFL.

My calculations have us delisting 8 & adding 7 atm
I reckon we've left a spot open for Wanganeen & any other train on players.

Obviously we put a lot of stock in the WAFL Colts Grand Final performances. Boxshall, 30 touches, drafted. Banfield, 28 touches and 2 snags, drafted. Clearly it's the barometer.

Like I said, over it already, as in I'm over the fact we didn't do what I'd hope we'd do.

My dream draft of us trading up a tiny bit to get Jev and somehow picking up Ludowyke didn't eventuate but shit happens.

I don't hate Byrnes, I actually don't think I've ever said a bad word about his game. I just like shiny new things and live for a slider come draft night.

Much like my excitement followed by my disappointment about Jack Ough last year, it comes and goes pretty quick.

I was so checked out this draft that I lost the sense of Christmas about it. The whole draft seemed a lottery. The players I liked best were Dylan Patterson, Annabel, Grilj, Pickett, Tayler Byrne, Robey, Doveston, Finn Davis and Fincher. Patterson the only one I would have given up future draft picks for.

I just realised Hibbins- Hargreaves didn't get called either did he?

only 2 rookie spots left - one for Said and one for Tex (SSP)

Hall, LOC, Armstrong, McDonald have the others

pains me to see guys like Greeves, Wright, Rodriguez, Hetherton, NHH, Oudshorn-Bennier, Onley etc sitting there undrafted. and to have no room for them because we have given charity years to Dow & Byrnes, and brought in Tex as a stable pony. what odds they don't play a senior game between them next year?

the Irish experiment is in full swing too - although I have to wonder who has a better chance at a decent career - the Vic Metro MVP who has been AA at every underage level, or someone who has never kicked a Sherrin? let's just hope it's the latter...

I'd checked out too, but as you know have been on the Jev train since early last year. When he started sliding in the mocks I became too invested.

Hibbins-Hargreaves did a 6:55 2km time trial, that, combined with his inconsistency must have really spooked recruiters you'd think. Even still, you don't have the days out like he's had with no talent.

I know nothing of Banfield, but clearly we see something in him so will back the experts in.

So got our trades done, didn't stuff up by getting Aleer, got our academy kid and took a punt on a son of a gun. Can't be unhappy with our offseason.
