Talking about mids, what’s Charlie Edwards up to these days?
Looks and moves like the Bont, surely there’s something in that we can capitalise on?
I know he spent some time behind the ball last year, but surely it’s time to get up and about now in his third year?

Better to let him win an AFL spot at half back and giving him a couple of years to breathe. Not like that position hasn't also become a need for an upgrade in recent years.

My expectation would be that come the end of 2026, Charlie has locked down one of our half back roles.

Hopefully not as his skill set (if he continues to improve) is exactly what we need in the midfield now.

It’s great that he’s added some extra versatility to his game but I’d be disappointed if they now view him as mainly a HBF, given we do have some depth in that position.

So why don't we play them

Why did we try and trade for a midfielder?

I like how you support the club but consider yourself a hostage and still love the club

There's a phrase for that
There's one reason we don't play them, you and I are both aware of what that is and its not because we dont draft them.

The rest I'll ignore because I figured you were better than that

Only ever going to be one main Rick:

So Pickett is 2 years older than the rest of the draft class and was running around the SANFL ressies?

Is this a Willie Rioli situation, a talent in our own backyard but off field issues a plenty which stopped us from being interested?

Isn't it more of a Shane McAdam situation instead of Willie Rioli where the lad only properly begun applying himself to make it as a footballer this year?

Possibly, I have nfi that's why I'm asking. But you think when someone has the surname Pickett or Rioli and they're in our own backyard we would be on top of it. Nothing strange about Kossie forcing Dees hand but using a first rounder is.

And we play the kids we drafted as midfielders everywhere but midfield.
Surely Draper, Edwards and Dowling get AFL midfield opportunities next season. I will be disappointed if Charlie Edwards doesn't train with the mids over summer and play SANFL midfield at least.

A lot of gun kids miss out cos they aren't smart private schoolboys with good with a good family upbringing. Sad really.

So today we are only taking Tyler Welsh & Cal Ah Chee? do we have anymore spots on our rookie list for a kid?

We'll have one more spot, but its highly unlikely we'll take anyone, seeing we have mentioned that we value having a SPP spot open.

Thought there was an interesting trend where clubs clearly prioritising speed, run and carry in the draft to suit the modern game. Lots of circa 180cm half back, wing and half forwards taken. The players not picked typically lacked these traits showing less demand for the bigger bodies. Think this is a weakness on our list. Hopefully Oscar Ryan comes along this year.

Yep. It was noticeable that ball winning with no other real attributes (pace, skills, etc) is no longer desirable. I think that was also proven with the delistings of Philips and Hobbs

Clubs want players for the transition game - and they want specialists with the skills for that style. Gone are the days of putting anyone on the wing or half back.

Players with no versatility (eg no second position) are also not desirable any more. Can't be an inside mid that rotates to the bench, you have to be able to play a forward role or something else
