I gave you 3 cheap options in my previous post but their are plenty more.

Khamis - Austin obviously likes him, prioritise him and get the deal done.

Ramsden- A better player than Hudson O’keffe.

Grewswski- would cost a little more but has the versatility to play both ends

So we should have just coughed up a 2nd round pick, that we didn't have, for Khamis? You're blaming our List Management team for not overpaying?

Gruzewski is contracted and was never on the table. How were we supposed to get him?

Are you really complaining about a 9 game back up ruck over a 5 game back up ruck who's a year and a half younger?

Criticism of the List Management is fine, but please try to base it in some kind of reality.

Anyone, JJ!

Don't you get it?! These players don't have a choice in the matter, nor do the clubs at which they are currently contracted.

Austin decides who he wants to recruit and that's that.

If Nick Austin decides he wants a player then he just needs to get the deal done otherwise he's a shit list manager.

As long as he doesn't overpay....if he overpays then he's an even shitter list manager for overpaying.

Or if he gets them for a reasonable deal and they turn out to be ordinary...then he's a shit list manager too.

And you might think that if he gets them cheap and they turn out to be ordinary that that's OK...IT'S NOT! He's just a shit list manager for wasting valuable list spots.
And if Austin selects an unknown gem, it was Wright who was really responsible.

Lot of posters here are very set in their ways.

I'm guilty of that regarding Voss, never wanted him from the get- go.
But it's a new season, with more coaching support and motivated players...so I'm giving him 1 more chance.

2 firsts & 2 seconds in next years draft is a great starting point for us - gets lost a bit at this time of year but really great work from the list management team.

Being able to get Dean, Ison (who I am all on board with - but I was with Cunningham as well) and also Byrne is a great effort
They’ll get eaten up by Walker selection and with the AFL obsessed to make it impossible for FS to go top 10, we’ll be lucky to have a 2nd left. They will make us trash our list even further.

Setting aside the blame.... I think we can agree our list is pretty thin on quality talls now. A star at each end, kids with potential at each end, and an injured guy at each end. We're very exposed for talls, but it is what it is.

There's no easy fix to that this year, so we hope we bumble through. We hope with everything we've got that McKay and Weiters stay fit.

And, the silver lining here, born out of necessity - we might see a more dynamic, speed-and-pressure-based game style that is harder to player against with a smaller, more mobile line up. It's not as though you have to formally nominate who is a tall and who is a small, and only "talls" are allowed to take marks. Hayward is pretty good overhead for his size.

It’s not blame it’s asking them to provide the coaching staff with a balanced list, when we knew we were losing key position players and have an over supply of small forwards who don’t kick goals and one positional midfielders.

If Austin really wanted Khamis he could have prioritised him over Florent or Chesser.

Definitely not complaining about O’keffe vs Ramsden the previous poster asked me to provide examples of cheap options to replace Curnow, Dekoning and Silvagni not O’keffe and I provided some there are plenty more.

Contracted players are targeted and moved all the time it’s part of a list managers job to do this, if swans and suns can target players the calibre of Curnow and Petracca with 4+ years left on their contract and get them to move we should be able to convince a Gruzewski or someone similar to come to us with only one year left on his contract.

Be honest are you happy with the current list balance we have with our key position players?

Reads well. Add this to all the off field changes to our Football Department

Simpson, Davies, Boak, Fraser, Trusgrove, Townsend, Adams and more

Ines will have his first full pre season after a season of assessment

Wright promised a lot and so far he has delivered

Yep 100% we’ve had a lot of shit go wrong this year and we’ve shown great resilience, Wright has managed to adapt to the situations and make the best of it.
West coast tired to put us in a box with that Dean bid and we said thats ok, we’re gonna take our players and trade out of this draft.
We now hold two 1st rounders, two 2nd rounders and two 3rd rounders in next years draft, which is the best futures draft hand any club has for the 2026 draft.
That draft hand combined with the cap space we saved with the players that left gives us plenty of options and a massive advantage next year with free agents and trades.

Next years trade period and draft is where we can really set ourselves up and for once I feel extremely confident we have the right people in place to make the right decisions and take us forward.
This isn’t blind faith Wright and Davis walked into an absolute shit storm and imo they’ve been flawless so far, completely turned the direction of the club around in 3 months.

No but I am very happy with the rest of what they have done

As I have said Wright sees this as a 2 years List reset. Got most done this year and we obviously didn't rate any of the talls in the draft?

All being well we now have picks, SC room to go after some KPP at end of 2026. We can now go after draft picks, FA's, Trades to get players we need. We have genuine flexibility

Also need to remember that O'Keefe was an SSP. Who knows if Austin and Co haven't got someone like him in mind?

Reasonably.
The injuries to Kemp and HOF hurt that balance a bit, but overall we're probably talking about wanting 1 tall player extra, so I don't think it's a big deal.

Please Stamos, the off-season and reality do not mix lol

I’m sure he’s relieved to hear that.

I think personally we will play key forwards this year as McKay, Okeefe , with Reid'y Kemp Cripps & Young spending time up forward. Possibly target someone next year. Remember the pies one a flag with Miocheck & Cox

Austin did seem to prioritise him over Chesser. The pick which brought in Chesser was originally on the table for Khamis. The Dogs weren't committing either way so we eventually moved it on. We went back for him later but by then it became clear as day they'd only trade him for genuine overs which I'm personally glad we didn't do.
Florent unfolded much later and was done for less than what the Dogs already didn't accept for Khamis earlier in the trade period.

I do think the trade period means there will be no pursuit of Butters. Some may have thought it unlikely anyway.

But I think we will decide the midfield is good to go with Walsh, Lord, Jagga, Cody Walker, Ben Campo, and Ison, plus other players who can rotate through there.

Realistically, we're not going to be able to trade for him. And I doubt we'd want another contract of the size he'll be offered on our books.
So we'd need to have him choose us for less money, and have Port finish low enough that they's be happy to take the FA compo over a trade.
Can't see it happening.

I feel like Walsh walking would be the only way we'd have a genuine crack at him.

I don’t understand what people want, we bought in Haywood Ainsworth Chesser Florent and Reidy, plus Dean Ison and Byrne.
So many people saying we didn’t bring in a tall, we literally got the best tall in the draft in Dean, yes another tall forward would have been nice, but we obviously didn’t rate the options that were available.

Thats 8 players that all address the biggest needs we had, most of them are gonna walk straight into our best 23.
We lost 3 big names players this year, but you can only do so much in one off season.

At least with this reset you can see the plan in place and tangibly see we’re at the half way point of a two year plan thats been extremely well thought out.

That’s fine, my personal view is we were already short on key position/ ruck options last year then we lost Curnow, Dekoning and Silvagni in one off season and replaced them with only Riedy and Dean.

O’ffarrell is injured but he Dean and O’keffe are babies and should be allowed to develop at their own speed nothing should be expected of them in their first 3/4 years of development, it’s much harder for a key position player to contribute early in their career compared to a midfielder or flanker.

Kemp still has question marks if he makes it as a key position player rather than a third option and is coming off one of the most serious injuries a footballer can have.

My view is we needed to target more senior key position players while the younger guys develop I don’t want to see Harry Dean playing on Jeremy Cameron or Jesse Hogan in his first year.

The options were out there if we targeted those specific players, for example rather than recruiting a contracted Florent who doesn’t really play a position of great need for us and giving him a well paid 5 year deal would it not have been better to offer that contract to a Grezewski type ( just using him as an example) and somewhat help fill a position of need.
