I question if getting two young forwards while retaining Welsh is great list management, when we have a screaming need for a midfielder.

Maybe there isnt a midfielder out there but I would have preferred we rolled the dice rather than go back to Welsh, we have a decent sample size there, hence the vanilla call.
What midfielder though ?

Welsh we messed up last year by taking him out of loyalty , nothing to do with this year

Should invite Tairon Ah-Mu, Waller, Ainsworth and every other undrafted decent Ruck prospect and have them duke it out for three weeks :tearsofjoy: Last man standing gets a SPP spot.
Ainsworth is much more chance of making it as a KPD than a ruck. The one with the most future potential is Taj Murray but he will take 3 or 4 years development.

Our last 2 first rounders before Wednesday were midfielders, Charlie Edwards is also a midfielder.

Its kinda laughable to suggest we dont draft them, its just our moron coach chooses to not to select them.

I wouldnt know, I am not a draft expert.

The rookie draft should be a free hit, feel like its a bit of a waste going back to a player who has had a chance.

Maybe if we pick up a back flanker in the SSP, the coaches will consider moving Edwards up the ground.

We used a First round pick on Dawson
First round pick on Rachele
First round pick on Rankine
First round pick on Draper
First round pick on Curtin
First round pick on Berry
First round pick on Edwards
First round pick on Pedlar

Am I forgetting any?

Berry was a second rounder but you can replace him with both Jones and McHenry

Hetherton Cat B? How?
Yeah that is a strange one, he's from Albury area which is certainly not in Sydney's AFL Academy catcment zone and I doubt he's an NGA by decent?

Edit

Fox Footy give the reason why...

Hetherton, who hails from Glenroy in country NSW, wasn’t part of the Swans’ northern academy, but joined the club on Friday as a NSW zone selection.

“We believe Liam has all the attributes to become a very good AFL player,” Swans list boss Chris Keane said.

“He missed the majority of the season though injury but showed enough promise through the early parts of the year. We are excited to add a developing tall to round out our list.”

What a joke, how many leg ups do the northern clubs need?

There's probably some rule where if a player goes undrafted and is from NSW they can join a Sydney club

Other clubs can't be too upset, none of them wanted him

Been in our system two years and it's hard to see much improvement

'Been in our system'. He was drafted last year.

I hate when players get delisted without playing a game. This is taking it to another level.

Delisting Welsh, a father son, after a single year, because you want a new toy in the rookie draft/end of draft lacks imagination.

Port sure are putting all their eggs in the Cochrane basket. If he flops in 2026, their list management will cop some serious heat.

He doesn’t need to flop, he could get a serious injury of sorts.

Just have a look at the draft since 2020 - not much to like about it other than getting JHF.

Interesting to see how 2026 turns out for them.

He left WWT in 2023 to join our SANFL set-up. Trained with us the entire season so effectively it was the same as being drafted that year. What have you seen to think he makes it or is it just wishful thinking?

THEY didn’t want him either.

Why should Northern clubs get dibs on extra Cat B players, before the rookie draft is even run, on top of their gigantic academy leg ups?
