England ruined the game playing helter skelter cricket, but Head saved it playing?

Head's innings was fantastic. An all time great knock.

So yeah, people talk about that rather than the fact that a first ashes test has finished in 2 days.

How a team goes from 1/100 essentially, to game over 4 hours later is a disgrace. The public and viewers have been short changed.

Why would they want 5 "quicks" or 6 bowlers overall for a D/N Pink ball test when England struggled to bat for 60 overs over two innings in Perth?

Circular logic in this thread.

Exactly why you play a spinner you may not need him but you aren’t needing another quick

I think it'll depend on their read of the pitch. Why are you assuming Webster is in?

Next best bat to be honest. Makes sense Head opens Green 5, and Webster at 6.

It's nearly two weeks away - I think they're likely to stick with Uzzy. I can't see us going a Bazball opener in the first innings. Regular opener for the first innings. Head an option for the second innings, particularly a chase.

Ussie won’t be fit. These spasms are not easy especially the older you get they won’t take any risks they were lucky it didn’t cost us this test. Can see them basically saying look Ussie, if we are 4-0 up or 3-1 going into Sydney you can have a farewell test.

Nafe’s handed over song master duties to Carey so he must know he’s close to finishing up.
I think the writing is on the wall for a specialist spinner in Aust - they'd love Connolly to come on as an allrounder. But Lyon will play in India in early 2027. I can't see him getting surpassed by an offie before then or him not wanting to go to that one. Winning in India is massively on his bucket list.

You better hope he’s not as the next spinner is hardly that obvious. Think he’ll get to the ashes in England anyway

Won’t need Connolly if you have a Kuhermann in your side (and he’d be the no1 spinner in Asia). You may go for a Riccolchelli who is a quicker spinner too as variety

I think you might be over-qualifying yourself and your knowledge of Uzzy's back condition to think you're in a position to know that.

Don’t disagree but they just don’t “go away” and the selectors would want to be utterly confident it won’t come back. It almost bit us on the you know what in a big series

Think he’ll half retire before the next test that’s my gut feeling sometimes you just know Gilchrist did

I didn't word it well - I meant a spinning allrounder for Aust, but I'd expect Gaz to still be preferred on that India tour.

If England stick to their philosophy of playing T20 cricket in a test match, the Gabba test will be over in 3 days maximum...
It was nearly perfect. 2/65 is okay.

If England tighten up their poor shots/mental mistakes, it’ll be tougher on Australia.
Can’t expect Brook and Root getting out cheaply every innings too.

It was gloomy on here and at the ground before lunch yesterday.

I think he's done. The really quick guys are now too quick for him.

As entertaining as I found Head's innings, as a devotee of Test Cricket for the past 60 years, I dread the thought that this will be how Test cricket is played in future. This concerned me prior to the series starting.

It was an epic capitulation, but it's the nature of the style. They'll pull it off sometimes. Root, Brook and Stokes can seriously play, Pope looked alright and Duckett will score some runs. I think Crawley is unlikely on our pitches. Not sure about Smith, but suspect the longer boundaries and bouncier pitches will **** with his compulsive aerial pulling.

Rather renners in then webbie .. webbie is in Terrible form with the bat

Only way I can see webbie getting picked iis if they drop Lyon ..
With Slug we have more coverage on both. Can Renners bowl?

They often do just go away. I used to get back spasms once a year, but depends what's causing it in Uzzy's case. For me, it was the disc squeezes out touches a nerve and you're spasming for a couple of days - but then goes back in and settles down. If it herniates and gets stuck out is when you're ****ed - but it could be muscular too, which is even less serious.
