Oscar needs to throw everything at qualifying, even it means risking crashing the car.

He does. Hes been good in races lately but qualifying outside the top 3 he can't use his speed and its killing his points.

I think Oscar probably gets used as rear gunner now. They'll try to use him to hold up max any way they can.

And Oscar could and should tell them to go jump if they try that.

watch them panic set the cars too high next weekend and drop all the performance.

Number 5 coming up for Max.

That would be beautiful but I think its unlikely.

Not a Max fan at all but he deserves it with the McLaren shenanigans. Would be poetic if like in 2007 the internal McLaren squabbles causes another driver a long way behind with a couple of races to go, somehow sneaks through for the WDC.

Not a bad outcome for Oscar provided he tells McLaren to GAGF when they ask him to sacrifice himself for Lando.

Lando will be shitting the bed.

These next 2 races are where Webber will really earn his money

Honestly given how incompetently McLaren have managed this season it would make me laugh if Max wins it by 1 point.

In contrast, if Lando wins this he also deserves it - two DNFs from 2nd place which were not his fault at all.

However, rules are rules and luck is luck. Qatar and Abu Dhabi are never at good times for us here in Australia but I will endeavour to tune in.

That was an impressive drive from Kimi. Should’ve been DOTD for mine.

Still baffled that Lawson escaped a penalty for that first corner incident, and even more amazed that Bortoleto wasn’t even investigated after going bowling. Far too much leniency afforded to race starts.

17th to podium??
Easily DotD.

I’d imagine there’d already be clauses in Oscar’s contract for this and not being required to take a no.2 role whilst still mathematically in contention.

Needs to get pole then.

The one team I would be keeping a firm eye on is Aston Martin. They could be the new McLaren.

They have Andy cowell, newey and the latest testing facilities.

Stroll will be in the one seat. Aston Martin would be thrilled to have a young star like piastri, someone who they can build around.

The only issue is Oscar's contract, is there a buyout clause that can be activated to terminate his contract after next season.

Think a lot of teams including Aston Martin will be wondering if the internal friction and Lando's standing within the team and the favouritism he was shown had an impact on Oscar being able to trust his team.

Can't help but wonder how piastri would have performed if he knew for certain that he is the no 1 driver in the team.

Interesting stuff.

Agreed.

Or something about breaking contract if the teams continued to f-k you over outside of your control.

Don’t forget the sprint too.

1st to 3rd is 10 points per race

And the sprint can be a few points.

Podium in all and he might end tied.
Sprint race is only 8 points to 1 from 1st to 8th.

So if Lando loses 20 points in the races (3rd vs race win for Max) then he'd need to make up a further 5 points in the Qatar sprint, which would require Lando to finish at least 6th.

You would imagine so but these are the 2 races Webber needs to make loud and clear that he will move piastri to another team if they even think of asking him to sacrifice himself. Its easier for the manager to throw his weight around that way than the driver.

There's a few comments on this board that I disagree with. Most I let slide because I cbf arguing. Some I don't because it pinched the nerve just a little harder that the counter point had to be made.

But then there's this. A comment so bad I don't know how to react.

A guy somewhere on the planet looks at Oscar Piastri, as Australia's third best all time driver, a championship contender in his career, and been the one who made it a championship fight, and says he's a step below the best and compared him to NZ best potato SVG!

******* hell.

When you have an issue with one part of the sport (Oscar - low grip, SVG - ovals), you can't be on the same level as the best.
