Fincher is an interesting one, we have a lot of small forwards and mids coming through and a lack of quality small backs imo. If they see mid/half forward as his position that's obviously an objective opinion, but he'd be a far greater chance to get a game any time soon as a small defender.
Though our current emphasis is to build a better team both for this year and the future.

If they believe that he can be developed into a Hall Mk2, then that could be a vital cog in making us in a flag contender.

Whereas a better BP may not move the needle as much. Especially as there are some reasonable options for BP.

I'm guessing in that case they plan to train and play all the Irish boys as defenders which makes sense, they'll take a while to develop though.

I think that they will have much grander plans and hopes for Kobe. If Kobe can acquire AFL Football nous he could be a mid. And if not that a damaging running link player. He has real pace and knows how to dodge and weave.

To early to know with all three of course. Backline is a good way of developing them. But LOC did not look to out of place playing on the wing.

agreed, we have heaps of mids/HFFs now and very few small defenders. Looks like we'll be going with a tall backline but I'm nervous for the teams with good smalls like Hawthorn and Geelong.

I suspect it’s purely the view on HIS best position given they see him having some power, good overhead and sharp around goals. I loved the way he practically rolled his eyes at him being played out of position. In time it might well be best for the team if he takes on another role.

Can someone remind me on LOC’s pace?

The AFL have changed the rules against the 'duckers' so the likes of Watson, Moore, Close, Miers etc are going to have find others ways to get a kick. Having said that Jack Higgins will also be affected, but so will the likes of Nick Daicos who has taken over from Selwood in the way he draws head high contact.

Personally I hope the AFL completely get rid of dropping at the knees or going to ground when being tackled to force high contact frees, its an indictment on the game.

We have enough that can play as a small defender when necessary and Hastie will eventually become a very good one.
I like that were pooling investment into scoring power rather than the other way around.

I thought we might look at another tall option, but its obvious the club want to add a goal kicker with their SSP selection. If we grab Ainsworth or Wanganeen we will have swag of small/medium forwards, to fit Ryan in the club might need to consider moving Henry back to a wing.

The older players will have to perform this year to hold their place in the side, with the amount of kids coming through.

I like the fact that a lot of our recent recruits are all versatile/dual position, good in contests and can run all day, Travaglia, Boxshall, Banfield, Fincher.

Our biggest issues previously is contested ball and first possession from ruck. With TDK and more contested young players, we’ve finally turned the corner.
I think that’s been a big focus since we got Wilson, if not before.

Probably not for this thread, but its where the discussion is happening...

What about Henry in defence?

We have a gluttony of small / medium forwards and wings, it could be a good option to secure Henry a spot in the team, and he would obviously have the pace to keep up with the quicker smalls.

The only ? is his defensive intent, but its not like he shirks a tackle or doesn't get physical.

An out there option, but one I think could have merit. We are a better side with him in it, and his pace and skill coming out of defence could be Impey like!

Sullivan Robey at the Dons looks like he’s ready to go. Might be a few surprises in this year’s draft.

He looked really good but there is often a men against boys thing with the bigger guys. It's a gamble. There is always a few guns in every draft and there will be in this one.
