Not just technique, brains too.The 20 over game has destroyed techniques
When I was playing New Guinea all our games were 50 overs and we would bat we were primarily an expat team we had a token Indian and we would make 240-250 a couple of the local sides would do that in 40 overs .Not just technique, brains too.
Test wickets are prepared for 5 days. The usual way to play as a batsman on a test wicket especially day one is to give it 5 overs or so to get your eye in and get used to the pitch. Poms play it like it's the final over of a T20 game and they need 20 runs to win.
