It's quite abhorrent. When are these men going to be taught that women aren't just objects to do what they want with?

Unfortunately it is only getting worse with the likes of Andrew Tate and such, where teenage boys are being taught women are just there for their own pleasure.

A generation of kids have grown up idolising the likes of Gary Ablett Snr, Wayne Carey, Ben Cousins. It would help that instead of constantly deifying them because of their actions on a football field, the media started to shine a light on what selfish, entitled, awful human beings these people actually are.

I think letting your child face the consequences of their actions is admirable. Though I also dont begrudge any parent trying to stop their kid going to jail. Its completely understandable.

Have no issue with the family standing by Tom. I personally hope SOS and JSOS dont cop it (even though they definately will). Tom on the otherhand hopefully gets whats coming to him.

Jo and SoS do not look well in that video footage of them coming out of the courtroom.

So is it correct his "mate" is the son of a former Carlton President?
A close relative of former Carlton President, Mark LoGiudice, is/was the boyfriend of the victim.

It's all revealed in the Daily Mail article.

The circumstances sound remarkably similar to a case involving a St Kilda player who wore No 44. The culture of entitlement in the footy industry needs to change.
Outside of the fact that player was proven innocent, with messages revealing he was invited, photos revealing a giant streetlight right outside the window, etc.

A bit different to someone sneaking in, then manipulating evidence to try and get away with it

It's a minor miracle he got convicted. Statistically speaking, men almost always escape conviction regarding sexual crime.

and Wayne Carey has been completely forgiven by the AFL media.

At the same time they have grown idolising guys like

Lenny Hayes
Nathan Fyfe
Chris Judd
GAJ
Jimmy Bartell
etc etc.

I dont think people look up to that side of things as much as we think they do. There is far mroe good from AFL players in the community and in leadership then bad imo.

Bartel was sleeping with everyone whilst married to sniffalino. Though I heard she was cheating also. Judd and his missus are also questionable.

I was told about this case many months ago, can't say how the information was passed on to me but it was an impeccable source. Given the suppression order and the potential hype surrounding the case, it was inappropriate for me to post anything online back then even though I felt it warranted being made public (but I couldn't).

I also rec'd a phone call the other day to inform me that Silvagni had been found guilty and was facing a decent jail sentence well before it came out in the media.

The thing is, it was his mate that lagged him in, the story about the Uber ride was the part that brought Silvagni's lies completely undone.

Regardless of how well to do the Silvagni family are & how squeaky clean their public image may be, this is a rather damning blow to their standing in the community.

The person I feel most sorry for is the young woman who was violated, and the young bloke probably thought he was above the law based on his surname, nothing excuses that sort of behaviour in my eyes.

Like the Geelong player case, it didn't take long for the usual people to again come out supporting suppression orders over the principle of open justice.
I hope this article by Justin Quill tonight gives them pause for thought, but I'm not holding my breath

As it might be behind a paywall and I believe we're not supposed to post the full articles anymore on BF, here's a few relevant snippets for them

For the past 18 months, the suppression order fight has waged and involved about a dozen different hearings – that’s a dozen hearings just dealing solely with Silvagni’s demand for secrecy.

Silvagni has had two separate counsel teams in this case – each led by distinguished and well-credentialled Kings Counsel. One team dealt with the criminal case, one dealt with the suppression order fight. That’s not something the average punter could afford.

You might think this is an unusual or unprecedented case. Unfortunately, not in Victoria. Suppression orders are so common in that state that this year there are more suppression orders made there than in all the other states combined.
Let that sink in – there are more suppression orders in Victoria than the rest of the country combined.

Mental harm is the new battle ground in the fight against suppression orders and a big reason for the large number of suppression orders made in Victoria. Defendants visit a psychiatrist and tell them some “facts” about their mental wellbeing. The psychiatrist isn’t required to test their patient’s “facts”. They accept them.
Then the “facts” appear in the psychiatrist’s report submitted to the court and effectively become unchallenged evidence.
It’s impossible for the media to test that “evidence” and the judge usually proceeds on the basis it’s all true, even though the defendant was never cross-examined on it.
