enjoy 25 years in jail

No chance IMO, they'll go soft and give him 3-7 years at the most, or a suspended sentence with a community service order.

Money tends to afford more lenient outcomes IMO.

Has his lawyer offered an explanation why an innocent man would produce a fake uber receipt to make an excuse for something that never apparently took place?

That one's easy. "He's innocent, but he panicked because there was some circumstantial evidence against him."

TBH I'd be tempted to do the same if I was innocently accused of a jailable offence and there was still some evidence against me. I have very low faith in our legal system to arrive at the correct outcome.

Will he appeal?
According to his father, they're considering it.

Speaking outside court, Stephen Silvagni said: “Jo and I, together with our family members and friends, are so disappointed with the outcome.

“We all love and support our son Tom. Our son continues to maintain his innocence and we stand firmly behind him.

“We will be considering our options to appeal and shall not be making any further comments on this case. Our goal is to clear his name and bring him home and ask for our privacy.

“We’re very grateful for our support.”

Does anyone here know much about the conditions of the Melbourne Assessment Prison for where Silvangi is being held? ie is it the same as prison? And is this somewhere people on trial are held indefinitely till sentenced? (If yes, harsh for those who in fact innocent.) On another note, is this where the guy on trial for the Easey St murders has been held all year since being extradicted start of the year?

It's a remand centre which is similar to prison yes. Maximum security.

If you don't get bail after being charged you are put on remand and held there until the conclusion of your trial and subsequent sentencing.

Scary stuff. But is where he deserves to be. As others have mentioned, every single person in there would be having major mental health issues as they await sentencing, so not sure if you can play that card.

But back to those who are innocent, that's kinda ****ed they have to endure the nightmare of being held in those conditions for months on end.

How the mighty have fallen

Can be longer than months!

This doesn't suggest Silvagni family have much compassion

"Both his parents were present during the hearing but did not enter the courtroom until after the victim's impact statement had been read" - ABC
Agree. They were there to hear the evidence during the court case, but didn't have the decency to hear the victim's impact statement.
