You werent scoffed by everyone for backing in Port in 23/24, many of us here backed the quality of the team ... You were scoffed for dourly defending Hinkley.

It never was never as good as it seems ... But the converse is also true! ... It really is never as bad as it seems!

The negativity many of us feel now (in various degrees), is really the cumulative result of a decade-plus of being gaslit by Kosh, Hinkley, Richardson, the media, and even captains of the club!

I seriously think it it not just severe disappointment, but a form of PTSD ... Not meaning to depreciate anyone that suffers or has been affected by PTSD or any other mental illness, but what these individuals have done is a sickening disgrace, and will take a hell of a lot of work by Carr and his band to heal it.

My 2026 wishlist:
Carr turn the ship around, and we play deep into finals
Butters decides to stay on & work to get a premiership at Port
Koch decide to call it quits and ride into the sunset
Another strong football identity joins the BOD
While they are at it, shoot MR into the sun too

I reckon if the 3-4 clubs he is thinking of going to in Vic at the current time, have a bad year, I reckon you think twice.

Perhaps all 4 Northern clubs will take the Top 4 anyways. It’s totally possible with their lists…

I kinda want all the Vic media pundits and AFL YouTubers to constantly say Butters will be leaving since Port are awful…only for Butters to re-sign for life the next morning after they made those comments and have them all whining and bitching about his decision.

IIRC, Will Faulkner wrote an “exclusive” that NAS’s preference had changed from Port to Crows because Crows were in the “premiership window”…only for NAS to re-sign the next day.

I want a similar scenario with Butters.

I don’t think it’s going to happen but it would be a huge boost to the club and show of confidence in the season ahead if he signed before round 1.

I know it seems like he is leaning the other way but I like to hope he has already been impressed with how things are going under this new regime already.

Is he waiting for wins this year? Or to play finals? Who knows but if he signs now I think it will give us a nice bit of momentum into the season ahead.

All year it will be about his futurez, not whatever we are doing or where we sit on the ladder. Either way, usual rules apply. No signature by 3/4 through and he is 100% gone.

I am excited if he stays and excited by what we can get if he goes, especially given what we have coming through in terms of academy and fs prospects. Bright future no matter what Zak chooses. We are lucky compared to say, the Saints who lose NWM and the ass entirely falls out. We lose Zak and we still have ****tonnes to look forward to.

Yep if anything he will follow the NWM path in terms of timing his signing. The club will be desperate to keep him and he the deal will only get sweeter the later in the year it gets.

Im hoping last year was an outlier

because 2/3 years he has played as a full time mid he has kicked 13 goals. Last year our midfield was not effective at generating scoring opportunities, jhf only kicked his goals when up forward, wines and drew didnt kick as many goals as previous seasons as well.

If he continues to work through tags and gets back to kicking at least 1 goal every second game i dont see how he isnt unanimously a top 3 mid in the comp
