It'd be great to do both tbh. One of the main problems with Victoria Park at the moment is that it lacks good connections to the surrounding train stations. I don't know how they'll do it or what they'll propose, but it'd be good to create more streamlined walking routes to these stations from the Park to decrease walking times to and from the stadium.
Yeah, I can understand them balking at building a one billion dollar train station 700 meters down the line from an already existing train station. But that means they absolutely have to throw the kitchen sink at every other possible bit of transport infrastructure there is to compensate.

Yes and VP is 60+ hectares v Yarra Park about 35. VP is about the same as Yarra Park + Fitzroy Gardens
Yep, the other thing to keep in mind is that Optus had zero restrictions on its size at all. It’s about the same length as the MCG and only ten or so meters narrower.

With the “minimise impact on the park” GIICA mandate. I reckon we could think of Optus as the maximum size, think it’s entirely possible VP has a smaller footprint.

Was having a scroll through RTIs [right to information] earlier today. Out of curiosity if anyone had submitted requests relating to a Vic Park stadium, redevelopment, or precinct. Save Vic Park did a few, where I found this interesting plan relating to a stadium in Vic Park from BlightRayner Architecture submitted to the Quirk Review.
Some interesting proposals on how to better connect a Vic Park stadium to existing PT.

Build it right up against the road to make it like kardinia park
Even more so and make it like Norwood. If they can have a straight wing, why can't we???

...And I may as well finish the set for the sake of completeness.

This extended red section includes the additional sealed car parks that the Victoria Park / Barrambin Master Plan was going to add, which would have removed even more green space from the park.

This is the plan most people campaigning to "save the park" want to see enacted.

It’d be cool if they built a 72 hole putt putt course surrounded by bars and restaurants next to the ground.

Imagine going for a round of putt putt and then an early dinner and then walking into the stadium.

Bold plan to squeeze 15k Olympic athletes into RNA showground village - Hayden Johnson
Towers hosting more than 15,000 athletes for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be squeezed onto Brookes St, Alexandria St and O’Connell Tce at Brisbane Showgrounds.
The Courier-Mail can also reveal construction on the athletes village, one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects of the state’s 2032 Games, is scheduled to start early next year.
Planning and design work is underway to determine how accommodation more than 10,000 Olympic athletes and 5000 Paralympic athletes will be constructed after the LNP government last March relocated the village from Northshore Hamilton to the inner-city showgrounds site.
The height of towers and how many will be required have not been confirmed, but an Royal National Agricultural Association spokeswoman said the buildings would be “predominantly” located along Alexandria St, which is located behind King St, O’Connell Tce and Brookes St.
It is the first detail about how Lendlease, the state government and the RNA will squeeze an Olympic and Paralympic village onto a showgrounds site with few parcels of vacant land.
People familiar with planning say construction will likely be centred on the large vacant site behind the revamped Exhibition Station on O’Connell Tce.
However, Brisbane Exhibition Grounds are listed on the Queensland Heritage Register and how development affects the old horse stalls, Stockman’s Bar and wool hall – which are located near the proposed building site – is yet to be publicly revealed.
RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou said the project would deliver a legacy for the Ekka and Brisbane after the Games.
“The RNA and Lendlease continue to work closely with the Queensland Government and Brisbane 2032 to finalise the design and delivery timetable for the Brisbane Athletes Village,” he said.
“Beyond the Games, the athletes village project will enhance Brisbane’s capacity to host major entertainment, sporting and business events, boosting the city’s profile and ability to attract large-scale events in the future, supporting long-term growth in Queensland’s visitor economy.
“The athletes village will deliver a positive legacy for the whole state including permanent housing after the Games.”
For the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the athlete village was built on a 54ha site – about three times the size of the showgrounds site.
Early works on the restoration of the heritage-listed John MacDonald and Ernest Baynes grandstands is underway alongside design work for an upgraded 20,000-seat main arena.
Construction of the main arena upgrade is planned to start after the 2026 Ekka.

McGrath said he felt at times the focus on sustainability was prioritized over ensuring athletes could perform.

"As the peak sporting event on the planet that is a bit of a slap in the face to the athletes who worked so hard to get there and then don't have the right environment to perform on the day," he said.
......................................

Cardboard beds, no air conditioning in rooms and concerns over undercooked meat made headlines as the world's best descended on Paris for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A teammate's scathing review of the "shit" beds in the athletes' village posted by Australian boxer Tina Rahimi attracted more than 3 million views on TikTok.

To avoid similar criticism on an international scale come 2032, developers have been speaking to athletes about what they'd like to see in Brisbane.

A great video below on the Tokyo Athletes Village. Well worth watching to see what's needed
A big reminder on what is required to house that many people and give them space to use.

Brisbane Athlete's Village to cater for 10k athletes.
I think they will need all the EKKA space to go close to getting a decent result.
Likely need temporary buildings that get dismantled.

Some basic figures i found on Tokyo and Paris, so just a guide.

Tokyo: Village bed capacity 11-12K, Area 44ha, Food court capacity 3,000, Buildings 21, Building height 14-18 stories

Paris: Village bed capacity 15K, Area 46ha, Food court capacity 2050, Buildings 82, Building height i can't find but obviously a big mixture

athletes gonna be cold more than hot with July games! they wont expect that!
Cold is relative. For many northern hemisphere athletes, our winter is much more like their late spring.

It was -27 in Chicago yesterday.

One of my daughters is currently in New York and heading to Minneapolis in a couple of hours for some skiing.

Brisbane had a presentation to the IOC a few days ago.
Running time of about 50 minutes for the presentation and answering IOC delegates questions
The video overall is 8 hours 13 minutes.
The link below should start with Liveris at 6 hours 7 minutes mark. If it opens at the beginning, go to that time

Andrew Liveris in a bit of a salesman type address. Cindy Hook (CEO) and others address the IOC and answer questions.
Nothing outstanding but interesting as it is from the "horse's mouth" so to speak rather than News Corp.

They seem to be big on the "Believe, Belong Become Brisbane 2032" part. Unlike most on Lions BF including me.
He does mention again that the labor shortage (i am assuming construction and the bed shortage for visitors) keeps him up at night but had a positive outlook.
Concern over multiple city venues and numerous athletes' villages throughout Queensland.
Victoria went down that path (country Victoria) for their Commonwealth Games and cancelled due to costs blowouts before anything really started

Apparently, the present Winter Olympics where the meeting took place has 6 spread out venues.
He mentioned they will gain a lot of incite from how everything comes together at this winter Olympics.
Also, how the athletes can participate from all these different venues in the opening and closing ceremonies etc etc.
An Australian House will return to the LA Olympics

His concern about venues was moreso around the operational budget blowing out, which is seperate to the funding deal by the Queensland & federal governments. The operations budget is everything a host city/cities need to host the Olympics:
Operations budget - This includes the operational services of public authorities in support of the Games (such as security, transport, medical services, customs and immigration, etc.).
This & international federations possibly not signing off on sport venue locations if they don't meet requirements, i.e. rowing in Rocky, could mean we see further changes to the venue master plan, i.e. rowing being moved elsewhere in Queensland or Australia.

the welcome to country is out of control, a white guy in Italy doing a welcome to country unbelievable

Interesting few sentences here regarding Carrara Stadium for the Olympics. Wasn't aware they planned on upgrading Carrara
Suns chairman reveals five-year plan to end dependency on AFL expansion funding handouts
Upgrades to the club’s training and administration facilities, particularly for its AFLW program, and a 10-year partnership with Stadiums Queensland to upgrade People First Stadium for the Brisbane Olympics will add steel to the club’s financial backbone.
Part of those proposed upgrades are to enhance public transport systems around the stadium, leaving East looking to the future with hope.
