I also liked the way he called out Zurhaar's performance, although he certainly wasn't the only one who looked completely disinterested...
I was looking to see whether Zurhaar's promotion to the leadership group might see him change his attitude - show a bit more fight and interest in playing the game, helping the younger kids....but also zero change. Just another Zurhaar day at the office.

Completely switched off to the team at the moment. Hopefully they show abit early rounds which might get me up and about.

I didn’t watch the Dees game, but by the sounds of it, she was a bit of the same old same old. To battle through the last 5-6 years and then roll around to be sh*t again. Just too painful.

I looked forward to your satire and you straight posted.

Have they killed your sexy already? 😞

We beat Collingwood this Sunday and I’ll be on the ‘won’t lose again’ train. My support for the club essentially highs and lows much like the Bush Beast from Wonderland.

Also very dependant on how big a weekend I’ve had.

Conversely...?

It really feels like this practice match against the pies is a must-win game. It’s ridiculous, but then so are we.

We just have to be competitive and look like an actual footy team.

I wouldn't have really cared if we'd lost to Melbourne by 3 or 4 goals - it's a practice match after all - but it was the manner in which we lost that was disturbing and embarrassing. It was a 'simulation' and a chance to put our tweaks to the test, that gave us absolutely nothing.

We won't win. As I said before, Pies are a system based team. They will dismantle us.

Agree. It also makes me think why can't we be a system based team? Look at the AFLW team. The system is clear to all. the men's honestly I have no idea what the game plan is.

A rolling zone that is too spread apart.
A midfield that won’t defend.
Ball movement by foot only.
Slow to man up on turnover.
North fundamentals under Clarkson

100% this Rod.

The game last year at Marvel where we went toe-to-toe with them, we led by 9 points at half-time and down by 3 points at 3/4 time and we (foolish) supporters thought maybe, just maybe, we might win here.

But in the last quarter when the game was on the line they clicked into gear and kicked 8.1 to 1.1 to win by 45 points and we all realised that we were never really a chance, not even close.

I can vividly remember watching the last quarter thinking they just knew where to be and what to do, even we had a numerical advantage at the contest they'd fire a handball out the back knowing the player would be there (while we all got sucked into the contest) and in 2 or 3 kicks it was in their forward line for a shot on goal.

I left the game thinking I'd kill for us to not only have a system like theirs but be able to execute it, and abruptly stop dreaming realising that we are so far away from anything even remotely close to that, it was so depressing.

Maybe this year will be different but we don't even seem to be interested in implementing a system to date.

We win when we win lots of taps and surge recklessly over a disorganised opponent eg Melbourne R2. As soon as they tighten up we have no answer, eg 2nd half of Carlton win.

He gets bagged on here but Lyon almost immediately made saints harder to beat by enforcing a structure. Kinda thought that's we were getting with Joe, but only better.

I flip flop between we're too immature, dumb, lazy, entitled to properly implement a system. I suspect it's the sum of all parts. I've been waiting 3 years to see Clarko's "system" and I just don't see it. Like you say there is no discernible structure when we win, it's all vibes, and the moment the opposition figure us out or put some pressure on us we fall to pieces.

I'd reluctantly be okay if we lost and I could see what we're trying to do but every recent preseason it's, "I hope we've got a game plan this year"

The challenge with playing as a system based team, is that the best players to faciliate the system may not be those considered our best players.

Personally, I think the Roos are too scared to lose "star" players because they aren't the right fit.

It's why we put mids all over the ground, it's about getting them into the team rather than just selecting best fit for the system being run.

I feel as though Clarkson was able to redirect (misdirect) many of his shortcomings by delegating a vast majority of the coaching duties to his small army of highly skilled assistants at Hawthorn.

Perhaps his only elite trait as a coach is knowing how to surround himself with elite talent.

He is being exposed a bit at the present.

Agree. Perhaps a symptom of having so many holes all over the ground for years - it kind of made sense to just get in the best talent you could previously.
