Player Watch #40: Lachy Brewer - Cat B ex NGA, US college basketballer

Pretty exciting to dip our toe in the Cat B pool finally. Yes I know we have previously.

195cm bit smaller than expected but also opens up more potential roles. And it ain't small by any means.

As Brady says US college experience would leave Lachy in no doubt about competitiveness, professionalism and discipline.

Already knows what a football looks like (ie vs Jeffries) and has connections to McKercher.

Pretty good punt. Well played Brady, more of that please.

Playing junior footy from a basic perspective means he can kick, mark and actually move on a football field. Even understanding the rules.

A big advantage over a rugby, US or Irish recruit.

His biggest adjustment will be going from a power sport to a massive endurance sport.

Really like this.

Been a long time since he has played footy, but being high level in under 12's is nothing to be sneezed at.

Hopefully we can turn him into an athletic key defender who can play on those taller types. I'd imagine his vertical and agility would have to be at a relatively high level considering he got scholarships to play basketball in the states. It's such a competitive environment over there that if you are subpar athletically you aren't even on the radar of universities.

I think the biggest indicator/potential with his agility is the fact he was a 6"6 guard.

The NBA is getting bigger and bigger, but 6"6 is still on the bigger side of a guard, even at the top level.

Same size as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Cade Cunningham and Haliburton.

He's 4" taller than Steph Curry and Jalen Brunson.

It doesn't matter how big and tall you are, you still need a minimum level of agility, lateral quickness and coordination to play as a guard in Div 1 college.

Thread title needs to update from Lachie to Lachy

What jumper number he getting?

In all seriousness the thread title should be:

Exciting talent. Well worth a punt on him as a Cat B rookie with that height, size and athleticism.
His coach at Sacramento, was David Patrick, Ben Simmons' godfather and Boomers assistant.

Maybe doesn’t like the prospect of being overseas, or indeed in the US in the current environment.
lol I wouldn't want to be in California or NYC either. Give me Wyoming or SLC with the Mormons any day over this shithole.

Can he play ruck? :whistle::tonguewink:
Well he's young, athletic and I dare say he can jump. Nothing ventured nothing gained. We need a Good Friday hero
 Or why even bother picking him up?
