The club and team have packed it in for the year so I'll be doing the same. Not watching, not attending and reconsidering my membership unless the appropriate changes start happening beginning with the leadership and talent/ list management.

That’s absolutely fair. The club is actively, and in clear view of the football world, disrespecting its supporters, taking them for granted and for fools.
I absolutely hate this club and if I wasn’t the age I am with the history of supporting them, I would be changing teams. What’s in it for young supporters to bother with this shambles?

The Suns?

Seriously throwing that up Spudly?

They’re walking into a GF the next two years courtesy of being an AFL created basket case that the AFL needed to save. Nothing was ever going stop them from being uncompetitive.

Meanwhile we went through the last five years with the handbrake on

Do you mean “stop them being competitive”..? I’m struggling to understand what you meant mate, no disrespect or sarcasm intended here.

The Suns had their fair share of leg-ups, it’s true. But so have we. And they’ve also lost their fair share of good players. It’s not an inevitability that they’ll just “win a flag because the AFL helps them”. Cmon man.. this time last year, they were behind us. I’d argue we’ve brought in (and given more experience to) more talent than them since then. The difference is they have a coach who doesn’t tolerate shit or make excuses, whereas we do.

Is is that bad to think we could do better? You know North should be better than this. Don’t buy into the Clarkson bullshit. He doesn’t know what to do so he’s just dribbling shit to buy time. Meanwhile, real coaches get out there and coach. Hardwick expects something of his people.

The only thing I’d say is Clarkson maybe thinks he has to hold back, because if he said the same things as Hardwick and acted the same way he’d be criticised for being too old and losing the plot.

That’s not fair but I’d rather see him go out with a bang, shoving it up the detractors and going down swinging, than what we’re seeing now. This is tepid.

There’s showing grace in defeat but then there’s being absolutely spineless, pathetic and talking nonsense.

Went to my local for lunch...pouring rain....walked in and low and behold....last night's game on replay.....with lots of giggles from those watching.....needless to say found a spot and turned my back to the whole thing .....what figgen ladder mirrors ect did we smash.....sigh

But venturing onto x this guy posts some very spot on things about the club.....and as much as l hate potting players.....this time lm in agreement with his thoughts...worth checking out...

Hope your all okay.....after yesterday it's just frustrating and hard to see how this rebuild...if it is that will ever end .

In the past you would think that even if we went the way of fitzroy we'd go down swinging onfield. But that's not how it's likely to go. We'll just go slowly and quietly into that good night, like a terminally ill patient.

Traditionally we’ve been given nothing but in recent years, for a club that’s caused its own downfall, the picks and priority selections given to us as well as what we got out of losing McKay should at the very least have us being competitive.

Thanks for the reply . The McKay compensation wasn’t a leg up every club that loses a player to fa or rfa gets compensated accordingly. The two priority second round picks iirc given to us which we had to on trade for Logue and Tucker was a poor excuse for a leg up. We should have been given a top draft pick or a least able to pick any one we wanted to

Yep, but one more top draft pick wouldn’t have fixed the loser/excuse-making mentality that has permeated this organisation.

What would we have done it? Oh yeah, another skinny midfielder? Or give it to Richmond?

I agree with you we probably would have stuffed it up. My point was the afl after giving us priority picks should not be dictating what we do with them. I’m pretty sure other clubs when given a priority pick haven’t been told who they can or cannot draft.

Does Simpkin know that traditionally it is expected that defenders spoil their opponent as a priority?

They gave us nothing which is why I am constantly surprised by calls for the AFL to come in and sort us out. They had a chance to provide assistance and gave us a couple of middling picks (in compromised drafts - like all of them) and told us we had to give them to other clubs.

This tells me a few things. The AFL wanted us to improve - at least enough to be mildly competitive so they didn't have to hear about it anymore - but they so misjudged our level that they thought a couple of 25yo journeyman being thrown from other clubs would get us there. There were people on here seriously questioning the amount of talent we had at this time and the AFL thought this would be enough help? And this is the admin people want to come in and dig us out? Please.

I have been very anti priority picks for a long time but I could see the writing on the wall 5 years ago as we were losing the only good veterans we had and simply didn't have enough to replace them with quality. The draft is butchered top to bottom. Teams in better positions than us have had repeated draft assistance that is of better quality than what we had - with none of the nonsense conditions attached.

My original point was that at this time last year, we were beating Gold Coast. There haven’t been 10 draft picks from July 2024 to now between the teams. The only difference is our attitude to where we are at. We accept it, Dimma refuses to.
Adelaide and Hawthorn are in another stratosphere to us after comparable starting points. Sure as hell they’ve been gifted absolutely nothing.

We need to stop making excuses for ourselves.

Sorry to intrude but i can't work out as an outsider that has a soft spot for north how things just have not started to click. There is no doubt you guys have a heap of top end quality youngsters on the list and have added some decent experience in more recently.

Our club identified a few back of house issues at the end of last year and we went hard and got murray david from Brisbane and Neil Balme to the board. Both have helped as nicks was flailing as a coach for a long time. Without knowing the structures at north, could there be some key upgrades to the footy department off field that might put more support in place to help the side for next season?. Its sad watching the side stay in the doldrums as a strng north is good for the whole comp. I'll see myself out
You blokes never gave up winning week to week as an objective. We did and have lost our spirit because of it.

Does anyone even see the makings of a perennial top 8 side, let alone a premiership contender?

We just played a bunch of ****ing campaigners who have been that for the best part of 40 ****ing years.

FFFS!!!!
Let's start with becoming a perennial second 8 side - we can't even manage that yet.

It’s basically the fact that on the Titanic people were rearranging the deck chairs whilst the inevitable was coming

Possibly an urban myth but it’s a saying that has stuck
What I’m scared of is that if this continues they will try and push us out of the comp. They don’t need much of an excuse to try again. I genuinely thought we’d be better this year. I just want footy to be joyous again.

We won’t be pushed out. Need games for kayo and teams for rule and tribunal tweaks. Test the water with north, be it free kick interpretation, suspension, priority picks, and so on.

Ahhh yes I forgot. We’re needed to be the guinea piggies. Then we’re safe 😂
