I was close to leaving at HT. We were getting smashed. For some reason we constantly overlook the way games are played across there 120 minutes.

Two reasons.

1. We do not have speed coming off HB to challenge opposition defences. Been saying it for 16 years now, but we are living in the age of speed and agility and we are left behind.

2. We do not trust our players to win one on one matchups or split the contest to be able to turn it into a positive outcome. Again, on the ground, a lack of speed and agility to get to position, defend position and create havoc.

3. Our half forwards and wings are a shambles. They don't present and don't spread to break the zone, meaning we have to methodically and torturously draw out a lead and short hit up every time.

It’s never going to be a linear rise, there will be hurdles along the way with a young talented side. I was shocked at the second half as i genuinely felt you guys could take it right up to the swans. Best bit is that next week they get to atone for it and they are absolutely good enough to do that. What has been very linear is the Mighty NMFC finishing bottom 2 for the last 5 years and I don’t think that’s very fair. :stern look

In the Melbourne game our defence matched their offence.

its so frustrating to watch, given the middle the ground is the widest its the hardest to zone yet we can never find space to lead into, like clockwork bomb down the line or a dump kick or retreat putting ourselves under pressure where we cough it up and concede.

And dont get me started on how we never exploit the rule that has been in for years now that the marker on the kick out has to stand so far back, yet we always skip sideways out of the square and never take the 5 meters on offer and get extra penetration. drives me mad.

The putrid performance I watched on Saturday night has happened 100’s of times throughout my North Melbourne supporting experience. We have copped embarrassing losses like that in the Pagan, Laidley and Scott eras.

But every single time you could count on the fellas coming out the week after and absolutely smashing it. And I don’t think it come from the coach (well, maybe Pagan), but the players had too much pride and were embarrassed by their poor display, that they would give it all the next week. Our backs against the wall wins after terrible losses was legendary. Shinboner spirit stuff.

I have absolutely no faith at all that our boys were embarrassed by what they dished up. And in fact I’m tipping another belting.

I haven't read the thread yet, deliberately stayed away from Bigfooty and all footy media since leaving that debacle at 3/4 time. I don't want to comment on the game itself, as it's pretty obvious what most North supporters could say about it. But what has really pushed me over the edge was Clarko's press conference. FFS.

I was expecting some answers, some honest admissions and maybe even an apology. Coaches have to be mindful that they aren't just talking to annoying journos during those pressers. They are talking to the fans and members.

If Clarko came up with that rubbish during half time interview, I would have been ok with it, even though all the rubbish about Swans being more polished, us going too wide and allowing them to own the corridor is really ought to be on him. How the Fukk did he allow them to own the corridor? They had a very young team out there. And to be fair we did play with some endeavor in the first half and if not for a few mistakes and some rubbish umpiring could well have been in front.

But his presser was at the end of the game, not at half time. He completely failed to address the second half, and that wasn't about the corridor or polish. It was about us giving up, showing no effort and bringing disgrace to the jumper.

Now after that disgraceful performance and the shameful press conference I want to hear from the club. Maybe from the CEO who has been even less noticeable than our onfield improvement. Maybe from Sonja. Maybe from Todd Viney. But after Clarko failed to address that debacle, somebody damn well should.

If anything, it continues to have the media focus on Clarko and away from the team, which any good leader understands. When the side is further along, like GC and Freo last year, then you can start to change the public messaging.
