There was also talk about Cam Smith switching to the Hawks during the salary cap scandal and Greg Inglis going to the Bombers at some stage. Not sure why the Aussie Rules industry has been so desperate for this code switch to work.
I remember that! Well the Greg Inglis rumour anyway. Very weird...

ahh, not quite like that. He "left" for other reasons that were beyond Hawks control, but certainly Hawks made no effort to get him back at a later point in time. He went to the Cats after spending "time" in Myrtleford, left Hawks in 82 and started with the Cats in 84.
Played an extraordinary game in the 2's against the Saints down in Moorabbin round 1 1982, and it was pretty clear to everyone how good he was.
You know what? I'm not even sure he was the best of the Ablett boys. Now Kevin DID get kicked out by Jeans, one day at Princes Park he simply failed to show up, Tony King was dragged out of the twos half way thru the third quarter..... the next day, Jeans found out he was fishing and "forgot" ..... off he went to Richmond. lols
Kevin was just a ridiculous talent, quite incredible, but basically just didn't give a f$#k.
I agree regarding Kevin. I have a mate that played under Kevin's coaching at Lang Lang. Geoff and also Graham played. Said having Geoff and Kevin on the wings was a sight to see with there pace and long kicking.

However it was David Parkin that couldn't put up with Kevin Ablett going missing as Tony King was part of the infamous Russell Greene trade in 1980 the year before Yabbie coached us

My parents live in Essendrug these days. Man I feel so lucky I don't support that awful club every time I visit Mum and Dad.

I rebelled against my older brother for not taking me to a game.. and started following Essendon when I was 10.

Wasn't long before I was put back into line.

yea, correct, I did mean Parko.

West coast and Richmond give they're supporters hope while norf and Essendon do not.
I'd add the Dees to the hope list. They may not have the top-end draft picks of the Eagles and Tigers but may have a top-line coach who has already extracted more from his list in one pre-season and two games than Clarko and B Scott have from their players in four years.

Let's just say that from all reports he leaned into the Gold Coast "lifestyle" pretty hard and wasn't exactly a good role model for the young kiddies......
It wasn't helped by Ablett having a christian group within the playing group as well.

I would be surprised if the Tasmanian team wasted their time on such a stunt.
Spot on.

They don't play, nor do they support, much rugby in Tasmania.

No need for stunts to get the locals to get on board.

They drew just over 10,000 paying supporters to their first VFL game at North Hobart on Sunday.

Astonishing.

Quick google makes me think I may have Mandela effected the Cam Smith one.
Not quite. Cam Smith said that if he wasnt playing rugby league, he thought he'd have made a good footballer, and wouldve loved to have played for the hawks.

So, wasnt a runour, just a story which seemed to grow legs.

This is our logo history for reference to the 81 - 95 logo jumper for Gather Round
Interesting that our current logo is now our most longest standing logo. It means we're probably due for a refresh.

I really like the variations of the 50s-70s outstretched hawk as an icon.
