Other clubs have preseason and long term injured players too.

"Fasolo joins Carlton’s already extensive injury list, with Sam Docherty, Matthew Kreuzer, Jarrod Pickett, Darcy Lang, Mitch McGovern and Liam Jones all going down over the pre-season, while Caleb Marchbank, Tom Williamson and Will Setterfield are still recovering from injuries suffered last year".

Nothing to see here. Can confirm that Fas was around at DeGoey's place petting his rabbit when he tripped over the coffee table and fell.

In better news, Fluffy was momentarily stunned but has now made a complete recovery.

Meanwhile, Port Adelaide midfielder Ollie Wines is nursing a shoulder injury he suffered while water skiing on Saturday afternoon.
Wines, who is in the running to be named the Power’s new captain after Travis Boak stepped down, will have his shoulder scanned later this week to determine the extent of injury.
He was skiing on the River Murray near Mannum.
“If that shoulder is dislocated, like I’m hearing, he will need to get it operated on and is likely to be sidelined for at least three months meaning he will miss a fair chunk of the start of the season,” former Port Adelaide player Kane Cornes wrote in a column for SEN.
“The man Port were set to announce captain has let his team down and badly. It won’t cost him the captaincy, but it is an embarrassing situation for the club’s highest paid player.
“There’s plenty of time to ski when you retire or on your 10-week holiday in November. Not when there’s 54 days until Round 1 with your club under extreme pressure to perform in 2019. Port Adelaide’s multi-million man has made a terrible mistake.”

On a somewhat related note where do people see the SA teams in 2019? I think both will miss finals and be pissed about it too.

Port Adelaide to miss finals again.

I think the Crows will be somewhere between 5-8.

The Crows have a relatively easy draw. Sloane, the Crouch brothers, Jacobs and Gibbs is a decent enough midfield with Knight tagging.

I have them pencilled in for top 4.

Happy for you to name any top four midfield that doesn't have guns in it. The 2019 mix of Gibbs, Sloane and Crouches don't rise beyond a B+.

Shuey,Yeo, Sheed, Redden, Masten ain't that much better.
Remember they gave our star studded midfield a touch up last year with no Crouches.
It's more than names on paper. Good coaching, workrate, decent ruckman, depth, balance between offense/ defense & inside/outside comes into it.
That doesn't even count the rest of the team, the draw, home game advantages etc.

In the most boring part of the year when it comes to sports for me now... Only the EPL and European Handball keeping me entertained, now that Aus Open and Horse racing season is over. Can't really get into AFLW, I just don't find it that enjoyable to watch.

Sure, it's more than names on paper - but you still need top-line players to be a top-line team. Without Gaff in there there's a not unreasonable possibility that they wouldn't have finished as well as they did in the regular season. On top of that the Eagles were able to get their guys to perform above expectations, but also the strength of their back and forwardlines (and Collingwoods relative weaknesses there) shouldn't be overlooked. They matched up well on the Pies and were able to win the flag mostly just by playing against them.

It wasn't Adelaides midfielders that got us either, we got torn apart by Laird getting it 43 times and distributing off half-back. That backline structure has been a big strength of theirs in the past, but it will be interesting to see if the starting positions has any impact on them considering how heavily they valued having a spare defender to play as an interceptor and help release the half backs (previously Lever, now Doedee).

Either way I don't care too much, it was just a brief thought while on a related topic. We'll see what happens, but I definitely have the SA teams out of any expected 8.

I generally expect the finalists to beat the non-finalists, so we should probably win. That doesn't mean we'll inevitably and definitively win, though.

I actually forgot about Laird that night. Really was the difference.
Yeah I couldn't care either way, but it always makes the offseason a bit more interesting, having predictions etc
