Not at all, merely a comment on DE being misleading. Even dangers looks good as every kick over 40m counts as effective.
For sure, it's very misleading.
I suppose if you have a poor DE game it shows your disposal was really shocking, but really there is no way you can judge how good a player is with the ball by looking at it.

You can't fault his endeavour and intensity and I can see why supporters are enamoured by him. However no clubs are carrying small defenders with poor foot skills … that is the overarching issue.

Who would you replace him with though? Unless you are talking putting Cam Guthrie there (and we have been reluctant to do that) or getting 15kg on his younger brother then theres no one to replace Bews. I get his limitations but he will stay until we have a better alternative in that position which IMO we currently don't.

On what basis do you guys say that? That photo is typical of players in preseason in the midst of strength training. They spend the rest of the season running it off.
Not talking about within the context of the season.
More that he seemed pretty bulked up at an early age, and this can quite often place strains on a still developing frame in ways that we still don't fully understand. Doesn't happen to everyone, but repeated 'loading' type injuries should raise flag. Conservative management is indicated. That's where the club could arguably have been better.
Looks like they are on to it now.
Kids are getting bigger earlier in their careers as they strive for the coveted 'big AFL build' so I daresay we will see more early career soft tissue and ligament injuries throughout the comp.

I see that Duncan would back Rohan in a foot race against Dangerfield. That's quite impressive.

Has Rowan ever been in a Grand Final Sprint?

Looking forward to seeing Rohan. I think not having Buddy to steal the limelight and the new rules are going to benefit him greatly.

Cam Guthrie and Kolo have shown they're very good shutdown small defenders before. If we've got guys like Henderson and Taylor back then sending Kolo to a small is a real option. The other obvious option is O'Connor who showed plenty at the end of the year as a small defender. His reading of the ball in the air, reach, balance and disposal mean he has all the attributes to be elite whereas Bews doesn't have anything like the same ceiling.

You could well be wrong on this one.
Would have thought Bews was your sort of player.
Every team needs at least 1 of him

In defence bews is usually the very first name I pick. The back pocket plugger just does his job shuts down I really like what he brings to the table respect his work ethic

I'm a big kolo fan have been for a long time it's time for him to be played as the 2nd key defender. Or locking down the most dangerous mid sized forward he has been around long enough needs to deliver this season become one of our best defenders.

He came of injury last season just looked like he did not have his legs under him then got played out of position on the wing. So hopefully full pre season he will be cherry ripe round 1.

Bews is more important to the geelong best 22 over Guthrie from my perspective.

Nothing like my definition of chip scab,A player who is always happy to sit on the edges of play waiting for an easy possession to come out off the back of someone else hard work, think Seagull at the beach feeding on hot chips at the picnic tables no effort required.

Until today I had no idea chip scav was even football terminology I have been enlightened.

He'd be exposed badly with his lack of footy IQ and clumsiness. He also has a poor aerobic engine so is no chance to ever figure there …

He could they were training him up in the VFL to play midfield and defensive half forward at times last season. He is a defender at heart that's where he is a natural. 66 games coming into 6th season this is around the time players like bews start feeling more comfortable at AFL level 70 game mark.

He will surprise quite a few this season I believe from what I have read so far. Especially with 2e on the comeback from the knee.

By far geelongs best small defender will play 22 games when available lock for best 22.
