Was harder to pick than I anticpated towards the end. Stanley, Clark and Constable all offer something different and it may be a horses for courses scenario. Depends how well Fort integrates in as well.


Back line I had Henderson and Henry edging out Kolo. Henry I was impressed with what I saw in 2018 and Henderson has the runs on the board. Again depending on the opposition it could be either fellow.


Midfield I've thrown Cunico on a wing hoping he can give the Cats a bit of a spark their. Happy to stand corrected to better judgement of Cats fans but he is more of an outside player isn't he. Either way I'd like to see a player with some spark and dash on that wing. A fully fit Cockatoo would be ideal.


Forward line I really hope that a second tall can come on for you. Whether it's Ratagolea, Krueger (I like him as a player, watched his 2017 draft year closely), Taylor, Buzza even Stanley or Blix with there athleticism. Doesn't necessarily need to be a CHF just a second tall option for Hawkins to combine with that is taller than Rohan.


From the italicized players we all know about Stanley.

I'm most bullish on the other two boys but - Clark and Constable. Both bring something different to the table, can argue that Clark is more needed but post Joel Selwood and Ablett, Constable will be a key midfield contributor. Love the way he plays and is the kind of player I'd love at West Coast, similar to Collier Dawkins from 2018 draft.

I'll be really keen to see if GAJ can be damaging as a small forward. I have my concerns with his shoulders and perhaps his ability to mark overhead as a result.

I'm not sure what to expect from him this season if he's playing down there. He should kick +30 goals if he plays most games, but whether that's a pass mark for him, I'm not sure yet. I don't think our other small forwards could hit that many goals in a full season, not at this stage, it could be different in another year or two though.

Wish others would wake up to Cam Guthrie not being worth a mention.

Kane Cornes some what said exactly that this morning on 1629SEN SA. He added gazza's durability & pressure was a concern. I'm bullish about it because it's gazza...and he's trained w the fwd group all pre season. So it won't be just on instinct, it'll be what plays, match-ups they've been drilled around as a fwd group.

I like the prospect of Zac Guthrie or Mark O'Connor being trialled as wingers.

I reckon Cunico went past Cam Guthrie last year,maybe not in the eyes of the selectors or Chris Scott,but the numbers back up what I thought,and the 6 6 6 set up at center bounces will mean more one on one contests and the need to pick players who are strong over the ball and can win or break even in those one on ones,I don't trust Cam in those situations he has a tendency to panic or put in some short steps on occasions,is Cunico the answer I don't know but on last seasons form I see him as the better option of the two.

Can Clarke play as a winger? It would seem he has the attributes but I just have not seen enough of him. Fogarty is like the forgotten guy ..and is one id like to see as the new mid group asap..as id dont think we will see the best of him till he is in the midf. Ablett forward will take someones spot.
Cakeatoo ... is starting to look like tempting empty calories. A fit and firing NC is 100% in our best but we have to get a new group that can play enough together that they become the team.He simply must get in the side and stay fit... so wing ..sure try it. Maybe backline... he'd be great forward but can he stay fit there? Others rate Cunico more than me atm.

That's a question we already know the answer to: since the beginning of 2014 GAJ has taken a grand total of 9 contested marks. That's over a span of five years and 68 games. It's not a string he has to his bow anymore.

I don't think GAJ will work as a forward pocket playing deep. I don't mind using him as a forward but if we're going to do it I'd rather it be on a flank.

Mate if he's that poor after years on the senior list he shouldn't be at the club.

The young smalls contributed very little scoreboard pressure and not a lot more physical pressure last year imo.
If Gaz goes 25+ it's a big win because he'll probably double that in goal assists.
Assists are a major factor in effectiveness bringing others into play apart from individual efforts and lifts the team.
Potentially Ablett can be a good tackler at 90kg he's a strong guy, has ability to read the play positioning him defensively or offensively to advantage, l reckon he can do the job.
What I'm wondering is who steps into his shoes and averages 30 possessions a game midfield.

Yep that's a pretty fair point. Coming in off the back of the square or on a wing (where he'll get that yard of space he does need at times now), and he could still be incredibly dangerous.

With our clearance issues l can't see Constable being held back any longer than necessary, it's certainly time imo.
I was hoping we'd go Collier Dawkins or Ely Smith to fix the clearance disadvantages but l hope Constable will be enough.

Thats something we cant rely on one or two people to do... we need all midfielders to be more physical and position themselves better at the stoppages and clearances. Theres enough talent to get it done with Selwood, Danger, Duncan, Kelly and Menengola. Constable, Dahlaus and Parfitt are additions to that midfield... not replacements. Balls in our court.... Scott needs to get the structures and rotations right, and the players need to apply themselves. I think Constable is talented enough to put the wind up a few midfielders who seem a little too comfortable, rejuvenate thee group, and put some fresh energy into the mix
