Ross Lyon Press Conference.

"Leigh Montagna, our opposition analyst, really summed up North Melbourne really well"

For those not in the know, Leigh Montagna has been in that role at the dockers as an opposition analyst for 6 weeks.

Ross is essentially saying, that Leigh Montagna, a bloke who retired from footy a year ago, with no coaching experience and works part time for Triple M has "summed North up really well".

Ross's comment above is an unbelievable indicatement on the whole coaching group.

I'm livid!!. Am I the only one who picked up on this?

Wonder if they’ll look at Tom Campbell this week. That keeps Brown forward and also gives us another marking target when Goldy is rucking.

That’s the way we’ll go. Cunnington & Wood out for Campbell & Hrovat.

Making us even more immobile and slow.

You can see it from a mile away

If that's accurate, we may as well close up shop.

From a limited sample pool Mckay has no composure to play back. Play him forward, tell him to contest and bring the ball to ground and use him to pinch hit in the ruck.

I have to admit, I've been thinking along these lines a bit for most of the pre season. Caveat being that I've never seen him play at VFL level so can't comment on how he went down back last year. I think he'll be better in a more stable backline but at the moment I definitely think we need another genuine tall forward. Seems more physically ready than Larkey and we don't seem likely to play Watson. I'd be inclined to do what you're saying rather than dropping McKay if we decide there's no spot in the backline next week. FWIW I thought McKay was pretty solid for a guy that's played less than 5 games in a team that was getting absolutely flogged across the entire ground.

See attached.

It's on the Dockers official site...

Why do our recruits need so much more "conditioning" than their peers ? so many debutants this round showed they can compete at the level, but we are so friggin conservative, there is something intangible that new blood brings to the collective.

This. Freo had zero ******* pressure yesterday. Zero. We panicked and fumbled our way into submission yesterday. It was a self inflicted burn I cant begin to describe how much we need to stop crediting the opposition.
Yep I lost count of the times we'd have posession of the ball and hit a Freo player on the chest with a pass.

Worth a look? numchuks

OUT: EVW, Simpkin, Wood, Turner (Sorry, I've heard enough about he's selected for his fwd pressure, why only 2 tackles?)
IN: Thompson, Ahern, Larkey, TT

I've done a lot of soul searching over the past 18 hours. I've decided to back Scott on and give him another chance.

We must stay the course. We are at our hardwick/buckley point now. They got behind their coaches and pushed on. Now it is out turn.

Those two realised what sort of players that had at their dosposal and adjusted their game style to match accordingly.

Scott will not do that.

Structures muttley, structures. Brad is a chess player. And the new kids are his pawns. You can almost read the minds of the young players at North - 'my mind tells me to take the game on and play to my instincts' BUT 'Brad reminded me that I don't have any experience and should handball to my more experienced team-mates (ie. LDU giving off to LMac) as rule number one'.

Brad has his structure and looks at where players can fit in that structure rather than seeing the players skills and building a gameplay to maximise those said skills. As much as I dislike Buckley the Figjam, to give a first-year player like Stephenson the forward line to take advantage of his unique skill, his pace, is something unthinkable under Brad's system.

Would he have the balls to pick TT and Curtis Taylor alongside Bailey for the Brissie game? Maybe a slight chance. But would he give them free reign to play with that 'intangibility'? Not likely. Sadly, his weaknesses as a gameday coach feed into the breakdown of the natural abilities of our young guns. You could contrast first-gamer Scotty's spark with the dour, second-guessing approach of Simpkin, LDU, and BMac that seems to be a common thread amongst our young players.

Over his 10 years he has shown all the hallmarks of a megalomaniac.

Must have control over all parts of the team at all times and his decision is final.

His advocacy for sports science was seen as putting him ahead of the game but this is not balanced by a perceptive approach to coaching and football as a game. Clarkson is a great coach because he has this balance.

I have always been critical of aspects of Brad's coaching, but I think the new rules, which are designed to raise the footballer up and reduce the coach's control could be the death of him. So the only serious change would involve Brad re-inventing himself or hanging up the whiteboard. Other coaches have transformed, but I have doubts regarding Brad.

There's a reason Figjam got Collingwood in the grand final and all but won it aside from the last play from being nearly fired not long before that.

Buckley had to reinvent himself and put his chips down on the table and take risks. Brad has not had that unfathomable external pressure that Buckley had to face.

And for him to come out the other side and get to the GF is nothing short of commendable, they had to get through a white hot favourites Richmond to get there, and they did.

True. Hardwick also went through that process and changed the way he coached. Who knows, this could be that watershed moment for Brad. Not holding my breath though. He rarely seems to face such pressures.

If we get done by 10 goals this week, the blowtorch should pressed against his eyeballs.

If we want change, thats the only way its happening. He needs pressure.

Pressure makes a diamond as they say.
Worked for Hardwick.
Worked for Buckley
So far its working for Ross Lyon, lets not forget the pressure he's been under since last year.

Maybe we should send an email to Caro to start putting the heat on him again?

I'm not convinced with Larkey being the ideal replacement at this point.
We will be crucifying him for being a slow, non-aggressive and immobile witches hat if it's another non-dominant approach from our midfield.
The likes of Curtis, Garner for Turner should be in consideration.
