I just had a look at the stats for this round and a few surprised me
-We were the top clearance team for the round with 45 clearances, even though we got smashed in the hitouts. Ruckman! who needs them ;)
-We got the ball I50 on 60 occasions which ranked us 3rd for the round (The Bulldogs and Fremantle got I50 68 times) Our I50 efficiency was ordinary because we only scored 20 times but at least we are getting the ball into scoring zone. Interestingly, Essendon had 3 fewer I50 entries than GWS and got absolutely hammered on the scoreboard (Lack of defensive structure and pressure??)
-We had 71 tackles which ranked us 2nd for the round
We have a lot to work on still but at least some of the indicators are trending in the right direction
Ahh, some positive stats!

Top clearance team against the wooden spooners. Our midfield is slow dour no creativity no skill. Billings would be our most creative mid. Our ruckman isnt an afl footballer.

Acres clark must come in. They at least offer creativity. Both duel position players. Can both kick goals.

I wouldn't get too carried away with the clearance numbers. Our game just managed to have more stoppages than any other and we only just managed to beat GC (45-41) who have the worst midfield in the comp.
I never get too carried away with clearances, because at the end of the day, it all depends on whether or not a team can take full advantage of the clearances. I was more surprised by the number of clearances given Gold Coast were +17 in hitouts

Agreed on some points there cooperrules, bring in Acres and Clark to throw bit of creativeness into the clearances, same with get Long, gresh, billings, even lonie in there if he is playing, Parker now too, gotta mix it up.
Have said it before, but most teams run 10-14 players through the centre bounces/clearances whereas we traditionally only put the same 3 or 4 through there mostly with a couple from gresh etc, but on Sunday I noticed that we did start mixing a few different players in there, would love the stats for this if anyone has them, but I think we can look forward to a few more going through there

Name me 10 in Richmonds side that go through the midfield.

Gresh, Billings and Sinclair all got a run through the middle on Sunday. Lonie also started on the wing a few times.
We are definitely running more players through there than last year.

People complaining about people complaining about people complaining about a game played by other people... whoever said social media was a vacuous persuit?

Correct they did, and I love it!
Noticed gresh's first one in there he won the clearance, is there anything the gresh prince cannot do!! hehe

Grigg goes in as a ruckman, doesn't he?

Castagna had 8 clearances in 22 games last year. Rioli 5. Butler 3.
yes Grigg went through as a ruckman last year r two but not sure they will run with that again this year, who knows though.

haha cheers for stats, I see Hunter Clark had 10 in 15 games (mostly on HFF and HBF) and Acres 32 in 12 games - GET THEM IN THE GUTS!!!!

Saints had 15 centre clearances.
Steven 3
Ross 2
Singles to: Pierce , Long, Parker, Bruce, Dunstan, Gresham, Sinclair, Steele , Lonie and Billings.

Suns had:
Bowes 4
Fiorini 3
Miller 2
Singles to Witts, Sexton ,Powell.

What we don't know is how many players we tried in the middle who were unsuccessful.

Acres is a persistent source of frustration for exactly this reason. Can be so effective, but seems to be in a permanent state of cruise control. Maybe it's just the way he looks, but he could be a beast of a player if he had even a modicum of the killer instincts of a Cripps or Oliver.

The commentary team in that last quarter was an absolute disgrace.

They were all vehemently barracking for a Suns win.

Yeah actually good point - I don't usually pay much attention to commentators - but - listen to Dwayne Russell's call of the match saving mark by Bruce. Bloke was flat as a tac.

It genuinely felt like the Suns only had the second worst midfield in the comp (and I’m not usually a basher!).

AFL Fantasy points are a flawed way of measuring overall performance in a game.

Our best were.
Steele DT 111 SC 115 .
Bruce DT 79 SC 95
McKenzie DT 58 SC 94
Steven DT 90 SC 92
Newnes DT 90. SC 92
Billings DT 84 SC 88
Parker DT 83 SC 87
Dunstan DT 85 SC 86
Ross DT 82 SC 86
Gresham DT65 SC 86
Lonie DT 92 SC 85

Our worst:
Kent , Long , Savage , Pierce , Geary

The Dream Team ladder is interesting.

Port on top.
Adelaide second despite losing to 7th placed Hawks
Giants 3rd ( Bombers second bottom ).
Carlton 4th despite losing to 14th placed Hawks.
Fremantle 5th
StKilda 6th.

Seems you can avoid a lot of hard work if you can move the ball in a precise way. But if you try to avoid the work and are not precise you end up like the Bummers, or the Eagles.

Let alone the umpires haha. I'm convinced there's a conspiracy to cover up shoddy umpiring with equally as shoddy commentary.

Oh there's no doubt in my mind that the broadcasters are under instruction not to be overly critical of umpiring decisions. Unless the decision is absolutely horrendous, you invariably hear one person in the commentary team defending the call or otherwise offering up some excuse (umpire's vision was blocked, always easier on the replay ... etc etc), which are of course irrelevant to the question of whether the decision was right or wrong.
