Of course the thread would still exist because Scott a mediocre coach who has coasted along for 10 years who has been repeatedly called out for his performances.

The stat in TPA's post was that Scott is third in all-time games coached for not making a GF. Don't introduce the ..'but he made prelims'...that's not the stat - the stat is making GF's.
i'm not introducing the "but he made prelims" - however without realising, you proved my point.

So say we did go for Sam Mitchell for coach, would it be better to do a simon goodwin and roos style apprenticeship thing? Or do we find someone we can put in as coaching manager or whatever on the side and put Sam up to the head position straight up?

I wish we were playing Collingwood or Geelong this week.
I dunno, Brisbane might do a number on us.

If that speeds up a sacking I can live with that.

I said it earlier, but it's only a matter of time until Sam Mitchell is the single most in demand coach on the market. He's a footballing genius, but **** it would be a massive risk to jump on him so early, and perhaps he might want to do a bit more of an apprenticeship first.

I mean, I don't actually think it will happen, but it's one of those situations that could be a risk that turns into a master stroke, or could set us back years.

But yeah, Ratten seems to be the obvious candidate for the next coaching position that opens up, but again, that would be a risk too because of his history. Most coaches in the AFL atm seem to be safe simply by virtue of there being no obvious alternative.

The other option would be to try a Fremantle-esque ploy of luring an established senior coach away from his current employers, but that would be far more complex.
Maybe we could see if Ratten would want to coach the team for two years with Mitchell as his understudy and then step aside to let Mitchell take over in a couple of years time?

Mitchell would know Ratten pretty well from their time at Hawthorn.

“Unusually grumpy”

When he was signed that’s wat I was expecting

I reckon in the past ten years I can name two bakes of players publicly and probably as many Team sprays

Maybe that’s his style as a Coach

But the difference between his win at all costs playing days and Coaching days are miles apart
Team individuality.
Free love Freeway?

The playing group needs a massive shake up. Brad has done well to build a good culture within the club, but at this point, it's almost to our detriment.

However, there's absolutely no consequence for playing poorly, and so the players get complacent and comfortable playing a shite level. There are a handful of players who consistently make the match day squad who should be dropped.

For players to perform at their best, they need to be held accountable. And the lack of accountability is coming straight from the top..

Problem is if you're not an elite ball user you always take the safe easier options, like your 15 to 30m sideways chips.
Elite ball users take the riskier option and turn defensive situations in to attacking situations and usually F50 entries.

We need more elite ball users, especially from the back half.

We traded for a couple. Brad told them to handball.

Remember the round 3 game in 2010 against Port? Where we'd just lost by about 100 points to St. Kilda and everyone was furious? Brad actually responded then. He dropped a few players and there were a couple of debutants, Kieran Harper played a really good first game (remember him? he could've been something) and it felt like he was willing to shake things up as a new coach and experiment when things weren't working. He's just not that coach anymore. He's too cemented, he has players he'll play no matter what because that's what he knows how to coach, he's no longer willing to be experimental or take risks. It's just stagnation and it's hurting the club. After the absolute disgrace that was this week's selection panel, I just don't see how we can go forward with a coach like this who can't adapt to an ever-changing game. He has to go, and I've never thought this before. There is no future for North Melbourne under Brad Scott.

I've defended and been patient with Brad for a very long time, to be honest my footy watching days weren't really frequent at all during the first few years. But times gone on, its been 10 years now. Who's to say how much credit has gone to him for rebuilding the club to being a financially profitable, culturally stable and rebranded club that really gets behind what it means to play for us and embraces the history.

Its similar to what Leigh Matthews did for Brisbane and I'm sure he got some of that from it, culture is everything at a football club. Now we're back to having a VFL team, Arden streets getting two ovals, games are gonna be played there, the entire place has changed entirely and the list has been turned over completely from the Laidley era. Somewhere along the way we've played finals and prelims. All positive things I'm sure theres more. He was clearly the right man for the right time during the most vulnerable period the club has been in its 150 year history.

We're through that now, we have our checks and balances in order, we have the infrastructure, we have the list. We don't need to coddle ourselves any longer, the club has to get back to bearing its teeth again once more and that begins on the playing field with 100% focus on getting flags, winning games, getting grit back.

For that, Brad Scott is not the man for the job, he's too technical, too forgiving, too locked into his game plan that with this list requires a looser chain and backing the boys in when its deserved and to allow them to use their natural skills. Jy Simpkin can be an elite small forward, Kayne Turner can be a highly defensive player, Dumont can be a lockdown wingman and it goes on. We have so many players with natural elite skills that simply arent used or they're played out of position.

As I said in another thread; we need a leader, a general, a man willing to be dynamic in strategy, and expect the best and nothing else.

Brad's done his job, rebuilding and maintaining the foundations. But we need to move on should this year go poorly. We're not worth existing as a bottom team, and we're not worth being a middle team. This club has far too much character and history to be smalltime all the time. We were the greatest team ever assembled in the 70s & 90s and we can get back to that star studded flag winning affair again. Unfortunately I don't think its happening under Scott.

Its hard to find the passion atm. I am going through the motions on weekends and it feels like the club as a whole is doing the same.

We need a fresh perspective, a shake up of sorts and sweeping changes to the football department. When Bard goes, we need a full clean out imho.

**** I miss the feeling I had in the 90s watching the team ply their trade... Going into every game with the utmost confidence that if we were on, we would win by 10+ goals.

The current team feels lifeless. You never know who or what will turn up.

At least in the 80's/00's you could pick most of the drubbings lol

Brad last two re-signings were unwarranted but that means he's had more than ample opportunity to both improve the current list as well as compliment it to suit his gamplan he has desperately clung on to.

Last 2-3 years have been the same story

  • Get killed on the rebound and through the middle
  • Poor forward entries (AKA "kick it long to Petrie")
  • Constant turnovers through poor decision making and skill

What happened on Sunday happens time and time again, and i dare say if a local club's thirds employed the same gameplan as Freo, they would have flogged us by 80 points too.

If you are going to be a stubborn coach you better hope Plan A is bloody good. In Brad's case, the players he's brought in wont be that effective in the long term as he's done nothing to help the current list.

Time for Horse to come home. Brad has been great for the club. But after 10 years, it’s just time for a change.

No. Got lucky with one GF in his coaching and playing career. He'd get us to 7 GFs and lose them all. That's worse than not making them. Look at older Collingwood supporters (50+). They have football PTSD.

How many times have we heard Scotts blabber on about having a game plan that holds up against the best teams? A billion?

He’s as stubborn as they come, and as Wild Bill has pointed out numerous times, I picked this trait up after his very first game. Nothing has changed in 10 years.
