Ehhhh not the best start to a season by the Dees, but we got rolled by St Kilda at home last season and played an absolute shocker against Hawthorn and still made a prelim. Gotta get much better from here tho.

Great win, stingy defence a stand-out. Forwards had a night to remember but even if they hadn't kicked straight it still would have been a flogging.

Surely Melbourne will improve. It was only a few games ago that they caned us at the G. What happened to that team?

The proof in Geelong's pudding is next week. Win against Adelaide over there and we start to look scary.

On exposed form you’d back Geelong. Should be a cracking match

Indicators were in place last week, Goodwin gave his players an excuse this week with his whinging about the Gawn treatment. Instead he should have been questioning Melbourne’s desire. Absolutely pathetic attempt tonight.

It’s nothing new, we are the most inefficient team in the comp by a mile. No outisde class.

I feel your pain though, as a Doggies fan we had a few games where we had a high number of inside 50's, even big differences between our inside 50 count and the oppositions, yet still got smashed. Lack of forward efficiency is close to the most frustrating thing as a fan I reckon.

Not when it counted

You were pulversised

I'm gathering that game exposed some dark demons that you haven't recovered from
West Coast were always going to kill them in the prelim. Anyone who watched last season knew Eagles were clearly the better team.

The same thing has happened in so many other seasons. A team shows a bit in the early rounds of the finals then faces an actual premiership worthy team in the prelim and gets shown up badly.

Another peahearted Melbourne showing.

If it was a "peahearted" effort thing, that would actually be easier to explain. Instead, we actually had 25 more inside 50s and had more than enough ball to make an impact, but Geelong looked way more dangerous. Our lack of class is actually damning.

"Franchise" is your mob. Geelong FC has been around for well over 100 years. "Handbaggers"? I look forward to seeing Gold Coast crumble against Geelong in the near future.
That would be 160 years this year

I think there's also the rock paper scissors factor. Some teams just line up better against some other teams, but struggle against others.

E.g. Geelong seem to have a knack for beating Collingwood and Port but consistently struggle against Richmond and Melbourne in recent years. A lot in finals depends on your draw IMHO.

Can’t stand the Handbaggers Franchise but seeing how far backwards Bedwetter KK and “run out of town by the wags for being a slime bag” May have gone in that superior VFL Melbourne Culture gives me great joy

Good times on the GC

I doubt anyone else even finished reading your whole post, but you piqued my curiosity - what do you mean by the phrase Handbaggers Franchise?

If you aren't good enough to beat your opponent you don't deserve to progress through the finals...

Bottom 8? Sure, Melbourne had a shit night, but you are kidding yourself if you think they are in your league.

Bad night? They lost to Port by 26 points last week.

Just shows that you have no idea about footy. They are Bottom 8 this year in my opinion.

Three games ago was last year. Round 1 is more telling of current form...

Expected Geelong to win and expected them to win comfortably as well. Especially in Geelong.
Well der, the Cats are a very good side. There wouldn't be a team that doesn't worry about playing in Geelong. Except Richmond, they shit their pants at the thought of it.
