Autopsy Hawks fall in a heap against the Dogs - Rd 2, 2019

It was a game against Brisbane, where Dunstall took the players into the shade of the stand.
We then got run down in the last quarter.

He still takes stick for it.
The Lions players race has a montage of the game on the wall, just where the players walk out of the rooms.
They will never forget it.

I have just found the rule which Worpel breached, it is true that that was a free kick. However, earlier in the game this very same rule was not enforced. 1st quarter 3:45 left on the clock there is a centre bounce where both Mitch Wallis and Jaeger O'Meara go through the centre circle to their positions just prior to the ball being bounced. There is maybe 1 or 2 seconds difference between the timing of Worprel in his breach, and these players in their uncalled breach. Why was this free kick only picked out once in the last quarter if it happens multiple times in a game?????

For what it is worth, I think most, if not all, Bulldog's supporters will concede the umpiring entered the twilight zone during the last quarter, yesterday. The centre circle infringement - at such a critical stage of the game was baffling enough. The decision to then penalise Sicily, from a centre square bounce, gifting a shot at goal from 15 meters directly in front, sours the game.

All supporters, Bulldogs, Hawthorn and neutrals, were short-changed. The Dogs had got themselves back into a tight contest. And all supporters were right to expect the ensuing arm-wrestle. Would the Hawks be able to stop and reverse the moment or would the bulldogs prevail? As it is - the umpiring became bewildering and they blew a fresh gale in the dogs direction.

I really don't understand why, even if it is a legitimate decision - which it was not - any free kick from the centre square would result in a shot at goal from inside 50?
A free kick from the centre circle is sufficient - anything else simply unjust.

Currently listening to Macquarie Sports Radio and they're pasting the Sicily & JOM free kicks.

Umpires do pick out isolated incidents of a rule. It’s like there’s a checklist to complete, like some weird treasure hunt ‘it’s ok we’ve done enough chopping the arms, but we really need a punch’

Still haven't seen the Worpel footage if anyone has a link?

The entering the centre square rule says you can only have 4 players in there from the time the ump commences his approach to bounce until it hits the ground. The centre circle rule doesn't specify when the exclusion period starts, just that it applies until the ball hits the ground, but one would presume it also starts when the umpire begins his bouncing approach. Anyone know if he had begun his approach when Worpel got pinged?

yes there were some really cr@p umpiring decisions but that doesn't excuse the number of hawk players appealing to the umps for decisions during the game. was quite noticeable and not usually a part of our game. very disappointing.

There was also the deliberate out of bounds in our forward pocket not called and Breusts play on call was a bit dodgy
And Libbas two play on calls and ...

Deliberate handpass under pressure to a player who was right there which went astray you mean? Umps didn't "even up" for the more obvious kick by Henderson. I guess that one looked more obvious. And Libba was called to play on twice. Swings and roundabouts guys, you've had a lot of decisions go your way over the years.

Ruckmen were clearly in position, have you not watched the game?

Hey, mate, we get it: Footiscray won on merit: no umpires helped you.

Now pi55 off.

yeah that rings a bell, umpire signals play on to Scully who tackles and is then met with a 50 metre penalty straight away.
Plus the 50m was actually about 65. Mad day.

Umpire told Hawks players to clear the circle, Whorpel took the longest route through, delaying the ball up. If it was a deliberate ploy it got pinged. He doesn't seem a dumb player (I like him), so maybe it was deliberate. Clarkos been very creative with rule interpretation for a long time (blocking the man on the mark etc), maybe this was a way of delaying a restart, we were on a roll at the time after all

So you think that even though there is a 30 second break between goals where all the players get into position, that Clarko tells players to stand around in the circle to delay the game for 1 or 2 extra seconds?

Must happen to all clubs every week now. This is the precedent. Watershed moment in the game here. Will be sanitized from here on in.

Of course they have. They are unaccountable.

Take a hint Buddy and slink off back to your own board. You are showing a real lack of class.

About 1.10 into the show. The decision was beyond bad, just completely devoid of spirit of the game and common sense. Umpire was standing still and asked Worpel to move out so he jogged to the opposite side of the circle to where his man was, got almost across and the umpire pinged him. One second more, he could've just bounced it. Decisions like that do so much damage to the brand and respect for umpires.

im still livid at the game deciding decisions ... i've never been this angry for this long ... for the first time ever im considering not renewing my afl membership; call it a sook or whatever, but im getting too old to follow a sport where the rules are so f'd that the umps have to coach the players on field so that they know whats happening ..

"play on, not 15!" , "hold hold!", "touched, play on, touched play on!"

Its an amateurish game with amateurish rules if this is required. Now add on what we copped in that last qtr and why continue following a game that makes u angry
