Wrong.People only ever make a stand when it’s christians. Easy targets.
In the past few weeks we’ve had Brunei announcing it’s now law for homosexuality to be punished by death. We’ve had schools in the UK having to shut down LGBT awareness programs because of religious objection.
What have we heard here? Nothing, zip, nada. Too hard. That’s because it’s Muslims.
Some Christian sportsman goes on social media saying homosexuals are sinners - suddenly we have to hound him out of the country.
Selective outrage.

Now there’s a guy with some stories to tellLooking at other clubs' staff lists and I see that Nick Poulos is now working for GWS running their fitness dept.
Will be interesting to watch their injury list as the year progresses.
It was a religious tweet that said :
Warning
Drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, fornicators, thieves, athiests, idolaters
Hell awaits you. Repent.
They are doing more harm than you can possibly know.
He is allowed to have that opinion and voice it. We all do.Christianity is his faith and Christianity believes homosexuality is a sin, so why can't he voice that?

Freedom of speech is the legal right to have such views. He has that freedom in Australia. However at times there is social pushback for having some views.
He needs to accept that doing so can possibly mean loss job, income and popularity for having such views. He works in an industry based on both ability and image.

I think it's strange that there would be perhaps atheist and agnostic homosexuals, or anyone else in one of the categories he mentioned, that are insulted by his post. To me if you don't believe in religion, specifically Christianity, then you should not believe in heaven and hell or Jesus for that matter. So it dhould be considered all make believe.. I know it's not as simple as that but to me it simply is. And I'm a drunk (at times) fornicating atheist...
he'll get well compensated for being sacked.
nrl don't have a leg to stand on with this one..

Government lip service. No real action.Wrong.

Do tellNow there’s a guy with some stories to tell
This is actually a common misconception. There is no law or constitutional statute that provides Australians with broad freedom of speech.
There is a legal precedent that establishes political freedom of speech, which prevents a political view from being punished with jail time. This is because the constitution has implied freedom of political speech.
There is no protection for general free speech in Australia whatsoever, to the point where even political speech is not protected from civil action
All we had was an indication that was the case. Tried to get an interview but no go.Do tell
Pretty much, we made contact, got a bit of stuff off the record, he was busy with Rugby Sevens, couldn't get a formal interviewAll we had was an indication that was the case. Tried to get an interview but no go.
So at this stage just speculation.
That about right feenix67 ?
Civil law.Exactly.
In fact we have hate speech laws that make saying certain things very much illegal.
Yes. A civil penalty can be applied. This is actually a common misconception. There is no law or constitutional statute that provides Australians with broad freedom of speech.

The consequence is that a large section of the community now know of extreme views and have formed opinions of him as a person. His career is currently in limbo as he prepares to publicly fight RA over his contract. NRL have stated he will not be welcomed back, as have some of the Rugby Unions in Europe. And all of this is playing out in a very public arenaCivil law.
IIRC there is no criminal statute in relation to Hate Speech. I could be wrong though.
Meaning you can make discriminatory comments, as Foloau has, and suffer no criminal consequense.
However you can be sued if such comments are directly aimed at an individual and discriminate that individual.
The State can't criminally penalise anyone for comments such as Folau's.
Which is why I said (in a roundabout way) we have freedom of speech but there are consequences in regards to comments that go against the social norm.

Yes. A civil penalty can be applied.
But not a criminal act.
Unless an individual can prove they were directly discriminated against by Folau's comments, he has broken no law.
