The ANZAC day match made clear how important it is that our next “big fish” is a good user of the ball. It would have been tempting for the club to throw everything at someone like Shiel, but his disposal is just too poor.
If we are going to have all this extra money at the end of the year, we MUST not waste it. Even wait a year until someone worthwhile comes out of contract if we need to.
Good skills can make or break a game as we know, and if I were an essendon supporter I’d be pretty disappointed with Shiel and knowing what could have been yesterday if he were a better user if the ball.

Anyone going to Blacktown tomorrow will see the younger Papley and Dunkley playing against GWS at 12 25.
Thanks bedford for NAB League

Ohhh...makes sense now re Dunkley. Didn’t get drafted last year as a. possibly not developed enough and b. ability to play as an overaged player creates that opportunity to develop considering he only really played school footy last year. If I recall, he was at one stage tracking better than Josh.

Fun fact: does his weight training in Swans shorts quite often!

Seems like the umps have really reined in the free kicks for below the knees.

Pendlebury allowed to blatantly duck his head and push it into defenders. Umps give him a free, commentators say nothing.

I went to the Richmond Hawthorn final last year. It's very rare these days that I go to a game as a neutral.

I was absolutely struck by the focus of the entire crowd on the umpiring. It's almost as though supporters can no longer understand what is happening in front of them and just scream at the umpires instead. It really is little wonder that we have such a poor free kick ratio every year. Our crowds, compared to those in Melbourne, are less intense on that score.

I think the AFL have a lot to answer for on this. Meaningless changes to the rules and interpretations make the umpires the focus in the first few rounds each year. Then to counter the abuse that ensues, they have "umpire appreciation week" which just compounds the problem. It's like they've taken from the grass roots the responsibility for teaching respect and now think they can teach it from a top down perspective. It doesn't work.

When fans go to the footy to watch the umpires and not the players, you're going to have a bad time.

Must say there have not been too many top notch games to date. Yes there have been a few close games, like yesterday, but the quality has been underwhelming.

Yesterday’s game is being overrated. Was close yeah but geez if that’s the best game of the season then yeah footy is shit

Find a crowd who look at you like this lot.
Shout out to the bloke with his arms raised in anticpated triumph, the woman on the bottom left with her hands on her head, and the bloke under her doing a great impression of a laughing clown you put a ping-pong ball into at the sideshow.
Picture of the year.

Big traditional rivals clash tonight

Could be asleep by quarter time

Won't mind looking at Port's collection of rookies who seem to be just killing it.

This will also provide a good look at the size of the job Horse has in front of him next year at North if mischevious BF threads are to be believed. :praying:

Several Of The Geelong V Hawthorn games over the years have been too. Games can be close but the winner in a lot of them always look like being the winner throughout the game and always have the opposition at arms length. Some hysterical calls in the commentary box lead to the exaggeration of the contest.

Geelong-Hawthorn games are usually enjoyable because both teams attack. Collingwood play a good brand of footy IMO.

Longmire has his work cut out at north

Lollies lack a clear D50 strategy. The lack of chippety means even seagulls don't attend their games. Horse will fix this.

Can I say we should not chase Goldstein.

Feel a bit for Horse. Norf look worse than us.
