So looks like Port are going hard at Grundy.

Lycett has had a poor year, started with a crook shoulder, then went in for surgery and really struggled. 31 isnt old for a ruck and he hasn't travelled as much as us the past 4 years.

If the shoulder isnt career over wonder if Port would consider a salary dump. A future 4th and they pay $200k next season?

Then we have Nic and Lycett for 1-2 years (Lycett could be longer) to cover the development years for the young rucks and in 2024 we go hard at English as a FA.

I'd suggest Lycett and Nic would not play in the same team, if both fit then Lycett looks after the kids in the Beagles. He's a big lad and throws his body around. Can play forward.

Just means we don't waste decent picks on a ruck this year. And the young rucks / mids have support.

Why can’t Nic and Scott play in the same team? We don’t have JK anymore (RIP) so a resting ruck forward isn’t the land of the giants it once was

Jack Steele and Jarryd Lyons say hi
Jack steele went for 2nd round pick, hardly a wantaway. He wasn't a reject and the perception from his club vs dow is very far apart.

Lyons sure , except have a look, lions fans want that guy outta thier team.

Oh yeah btw..

Kane Lucas
SPS
Witherden
Naish

Say hi

Then why didn't he turn down Port's offer?
Hey Scott, you have won a premiership, and Nic Nat is now coming back to take your game time. How about you come play as number 1 ruck for us and we give you a suitcase full of money?

"I don't want to leave the club ... but OK"

I mean I get the money is hard to turn down, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to say he didn't want to leave, then nek minnut:

It's not like Ablett wanting to go back to Geelong after chasing $$$.

"'d prefer not to leave the club, but I'm realistic that I'm not going to be the number one ruck with Nic returning and my earning capacity if far greater elsewhere." This is a fairly legitimate position to hold. I have no doubt that the difference in offers between what we were willing to pay and what port paid was significant.

You're right to a degree though that there's no indication he's keen to come back, other that nostalgia.

Also on a side note, if I find a time machine and an athletic enhancer machine, go back in time and become an AFL footballer, I'll aim to time my free agency with the season I replace the teams star, and win a premiership where I play a key (if slightly overrated) role. That's how you maximize your pay day.

I still think Niash got done dirty.

Bloke comes in from the clouds and was our best player and only shining light over the first 5 or so weeks. Plays 1 poor game against his old club where we got annihilated by 100 points and was unsurprisingly scapegoated.

In comes the cashed in credits for Simmo as all the "stars" return and he gets punted to the curb, never to be seen again. Now he's going to be delisted.

I get that he's got some limitations as a footballer, but gee whiz I'd prefer him in the side this year and the run he gave over Gaff any day of the week.

I think what we were willing to pay was significantly impacted by Gaff. If I recall correctly Gaff signed on the day after Lycett agreed to move to Port.

Basically we could afford one or the other. Possibly chose the wrong one (not trying to start the Gaff debate again, but I think hindsight says Lycett for less $ may/would have offered us more over the course of the past 3-4 years).

Not AFL quality.

I think that was also the year we went after Kelly, had to keep space available, and the fact is you don't pay big coin for your second ruck.

They could but I was assuming both were here to assist in development. Both in the main squad and in the WAFL. If we were contending sure, they would.

Lets be honest, rucks get injured regularly so chances only one would be playing. Same goes with Bailey and Jamison. If all are fit all good, we have an old dog supporting one of the young pups in both levels.

Lycett seemed to be a good character around the team aa well.

I'd probably rather Naish over Foley or Langdon. At least he brings some run to the side, at his best he's better than both of those players. His biggest weakness for me is how soft he is. Shirk's nearly every contest and can make poor decisions under pressure.

Jesus, some of these stats. Could live with all the below being cut.

SPS
16 disposals, four marks

Started the game well, won a couple of good one-on-ones but lacked consistency.

Isiah Winder

15 disposals, six tackles, one goal

Kicked a nice goal late but needed to work a little harder to find the ball more.

Zac Langdon

15 disposals, seven tackles

Took some courageous marks and had a couple opportunities to score goals but could not convert.

Jackson Nelson

14 disposals, one goal

Fought hard and never stopped trying all day.

Zane Trew

12 disposals, three tackles

Didn’t win enough of the ball and overall had a quiet game.

Josh Rotham

10 disposals, seven marks, one tackle

Won some good one-on-ones but didn’t have the impact we were hoping he would have.

Hugh Dixon

Nine disposals, six tackles

Overall had a quiet day, when he got into the game he couldn’t quite have an impact

Is he still on $600k a year? If so, then we should be able to find someone a lot cheaper to do the same role.
