This thread sucks.

Yes losing depth sucks, but that's what happens when you spend 44 weeks in the top 4. Teams look at your 22-30 players and think "surely they can't be that bad, they're just being kept out by guns". Look how many of these guys Geelong and Hawthorn lost over the 2010s. Didn't see too many of them crying when Billie Smedts or Jed Anderson took contracts elsewhere. The challenge from here is to develop the 2018-21 draftees to replace them, and given our player development has been pretty outstanding since Roos joined I'd back us in to do that.

Would it have been nice to get a gun forward? Yes. I wish Gunston had come to us, but its pretty clear he left to link up with Fagan from his Hawks days. There are literally no other gun KPFs available. Dan McStay is the only other established KPF who left his club, and he kicked 5 less goals than the reviled BB this year from 3 more games. Yes, I know he pushes up the ground, but is that what we were looking for?

We clearly need a revised game style to counter good teams, a good draft hand to top up our depth and for some of our young high picks to push into the 22, but isn't that what every club needs if they're going to be successful? Stop with the ******* pearl clutching and try and remember how good we have it at the moment.
Gunston is the one that hurts I think. Obviously gettable and of little cost(at least in trade value). The reward would have far outweighed the risk (injuries) IMO. Maybe interstate was more attractive to him I don't know. I thought we were in his ear last post season and had rumours around getting him in.

Because Tanner Bruhn, Junior Rioli, Ollie Henry, a cooked Mitchell and Jaeger, [PLAYERCARD]Karl Amon[/PLAYERCARD] and Dan ****ing McStay are bigger coups than [PLAYERCARD]Brodie Grundy[/PLAYERCARD].

Geelong fans right now (presumably). "Can't believe we're replacing our best ever midfielder and captain with some random kid from GWS".

wasn't keen on getting Grundy initially but for pick 27 it's good s**t.
Same, my thoughts initially when I heard Rendell moot it ages ago was that it was a crazy idea, however over time with reality being Jackson evidently going I was more accepting of the idea. It's not ideal long term, but we are in contention now and Grundy is a great player particularly for 27.

Is there a gif of Brayshaw cannoning into shack in the gf.

I forgot to mention at the time how unbelievably brave that was by Shac, should have inspired his team to a win but the rest of them were too busy ducking their heads trying to milk soft frees. Real men like Shac dont belong in that team of floppers.

Gotta say, Shaq does feel like the natural Weideman replacement.

Though that Grand Final clobberfest was harder than anything Weid has done

I'm hearing our first rounder for Grundy

Really hoping Jefferson slides for whatever reason and Collingwood takes him at 27 for the lols.

Swans, Roos open to parting with top picks

More first-round pick swaps are expected to move hands this off-season, with North Melbourne and Sydney hoping to shift their draft hands.

According to AFL Media, the Kangaroos are open to offers for Pick 3, looking to bring in a wave of fresh talent by landing two more top-10 picks.

Sydney have shared their interest in packaging Picks 14 and 17 to move up in the draft and appear as a potential suitor for North's high pick, however the Roos may be eyeing a stronger hand in return for their second best selection.

Surely, just surely if North are even half considering 3 for 14+17 we swoop in with the Jackson compo for pick 3

Surely Sam Edmund wrote that Schache article based entirely off that 1 dogs ITK poster who said that on this board a week ago?

We couldn’t possibly be interested could we?

I'm hearing Tim Lamb is going to re-open negotiations tomorrow morning with Collingwood to retro-spectively sweeten the Grundy deal with our first rounder (with one of their seconds coming back) to keep the trading relationship strong between the clubs as a show of goodwill.

Tim knows how important it is to 'grease the wheels' so to speak and keep up friendly relations with key trading partners

Watch this space

Actually wouldn’t be surprised at all if we put the jackson compo and our future first on the table tomorrow for a higher pick.

Id be happy enough if we do that so long as we keep Freo's next year, got a good feeling about that pick.
