Unlike last weeks oppo the Dogs don’t have the defensive marking power to nullify our forward entries. I can see us piling on the goals & taking full advantage of our runs forward. Dogs look very gettable. I would not be surprised if we won by 8 goals.
Unreal

Self effacing and complimentary Ross Lyon is so weird to watch in pressers
Some of his rhetoric is carefully thought out, and designed to reinforce his messaging behind closed doors. Tonight he spoke about how ultimately the players make the choice to work as hard as they do and being rock hard fit. Also something along the lines of if I see it at training I know I’ll see it in a game. It so reassuring to know this is the type of messaging that the boys are getting.

My favourite one tonight was there’s no magic. It’s nothing but hard work.

The best part about Crouch is his consistency. He may not be an elite mid but you know what you're going to get each week. Hundred percent effort. Played very few poor games since coming to the Saints.

This is true, you need these players in your side. And his contract was very fair.

Great win, I fully expected them to come back hard but the way we shut down the comeback was so impressive. I think losing Dunkley has hurt the Doggies more then they anticipated, he did alot of the dirty work for them and was really the only defensive mid they had. I loved how loud our crowd was, it's always good when you get on a run and it's the cheersquad side. Felt like a Saints home game!

I tug twice a day to this photo.

From pre draft I was always huge on mitchito. Still think he has it in him to be a proper big mid-forward and not just a forward. Star potential
He’s starting to back himself to absorb the hit from tacklers and accelerate out from it. I reckon he could genuinely be anything. In our top 5 runners tonight, matching Brad Hill for distance covered and top 5 for distance at high speed. Could genuinely be a big bodied midfielder if we can teach him the craft.

Reminds me a lot of Paddy Cripps very early in his career when we used to make fun of his ugly kicking out of the middle. Crippa also a very handy forward back then.

Whatever happens though it’s going to be a pleasure to bear witness the way he is developing.

Steele out will be a blow but under Lyon's game plan it doesn't matter too much if we have someone who can come in and fit into the game plan.

We didn't miss Webster much tonight.

Melbourne are like that, someone gets injured in defence, midfield and forward they have someone ready to go and they don't lose out too much.

The problem for them last night is that they lost May, Gawn and Pickett all at the same time.
For me Webster is still better than Patton.

It's amazing that we won that game when at one stage we had a first year draft pick playing at full forward, Phillipou was there in the third quarter.

Plays taller than he is with his ET arms so he wasn't a bad option, he should have marked a couple more than he did, got hands to it and dropped it.

Love the bit where Howard fell onto Naughton, put his knee into his side then for good measure kicked him in the face
He was apologising before his boot landed on Naughtons forehead. A masterclass from the Howitzer.

That was a very wild and insane finish. Personally think they should have paid the free kick there, given the offense occured before the siren went but I'm glad North won.
you cannot pay deliberate out of bounds before the bouncing ball crosses the line. siren went with ball still on the ground. game over.

I never realised how good Lyon was. People say he can or maybe can’t develop which may or may not be true but maybe we also didn’t how good his structures were because the side had so many stars. Except for 8 minutes the dogs scored 1 goal in 110 minutes. The more they got it the more it was turned over. Exactly like last week. It seems he is happy to let them get it.

Do you remember this final? Collingwood looked like they could match us for scoring in the first half.

Then in the second half they couldn't get it inside their forward 50 and we strangled the life out of them.

No I do remember him and his coaching but it was normally put down to mainly the players which to be honest is probably true but it isn’t that with this list.

Holy friggin moly, that was ridiculously good. We didn't even fall away in the last 10 minutes & let them claw back a few goals, knowing the game was in the bag, like we have done so many time in the past.

The appointment of Ross Lyon made me want to detach myself from the Saints & football altogether this season but when it's in your blood... it's in your blood, so last week when The Saints beat Freo I afforded myself a view of Lyon's post match presser. I was pleased that he had lost some of his arrogance & gained some humility. It's hard not to contribute a good deal of tonight's win to our coaching staff. Enright, Harvey, Hayes & Lyon, is that not the best coachining squad in the league?

Every team has a few recycled players. Our two has-beens totally stepped up tonight, Cordy & Stocker. Not that Stocker is a has-been but he was less than useless at Carlton last season. Cordy was more than just serviceable tonight. He did the job when we needed him to & Stocker was actually really good.

Steel, Crouch, Marshall and Sinclair were all brilliant. I've been a strong critic of Brad Hill but both games this year he's been great but the biggest thrill for me is our young emerging talent... Wanganeen-Milera, so cool & precise, he's like an MI5 agent, the marking, kicking skills & footy smarts of the two new forwards in Philipou & Caminiti. Just wow.

Every season I think... Why didn't we get a player like that... & this year we got 'em & we have some really good player in reserve like Sharmen & Highmore & more.

I think that the fact that our backs are against the wall, having so many of out first 22 out through injury has worked in our favour & made us try harder & probably given our opposition a false sense of security. Two wins out of two, top of the ladder, early doors but how fvcking good does it feel to be a true Sainter woohoo.
