Is Pick 6 a bit cursed?! Fischer McAsey and now DGB were all recent picks 6s! Reece Conca was a pick 6, maybe an outlier as he played a number of years but wasn't a "star player". I dunno, but if I'm a draftee, thinking I hope I don't go pick 6, good grief!!

Which is why Melbourne should have not bid on Levi Ashcroft at 5 and just had their pick. Richmond would have bid at six.

They now have Harvey Langford at 6 who is going to have to sell his soul to the devil to make it.

You are correct, WA did lead the way with playing Indigenous players. WAY, WAY, WAY before Sheedy go all the accolades for praising them.
Syd Jackson I think was the first of the Indigenous players to go EAst and he set the VFL alight.
Dick Woodgate a Souths man who was working inthe Territory was the one who enlightened Souths about Sibby Rioli.He was something special.Injury brought him down.
You forgot the one I consider, could, have been the best, Benny,The Jet, Vigona.He would have been an absolute sensationhad he gone to the VFL.I consider that had he had the want and dedication of Stephen Michael and Maurice Rioli, he would have been the best of all.His skills were as silky as any. His step was as good at any that Maurice could do.Kicked either foot and hand balled both hands.He could stand on oppos heads.Kicked goals for fun.One day he kicked 7 in a half.He went missing at half time. Browny asked where he was.When Browny confronted Benny and asked him why he wa showering,the game hasn't finished, Bewnny replied, I have already won you the game.

Speaking of how laid back Benny Vigona could be, I was in the bar at Souths one evening after a home game and Mal Brown was making some awards to the players. Browny call out the player of the match was Benny - but he had left to go down town with some mates. Everyone had a laugh at that.

What I’ve heard is that DGB has no tank. Can’t run out a game.
All the skills in the world are no good if you can’t run.
Especially for key position players that are ideally on ground 90% of the time

That underage carnival year was crazy, he looked so good but didn't get anywhere near that since.


Makes you think he would have dropped down draft boards if we had a carnival in 2020, that does happen pretty often for 17 year olds, rated #1 or top 10 in their underage year but considerably lower afterwards. Guess he just didn't have that 2020 year for him to drop.

I reckon it happens every year with KPPs. Lemmey, Scully, That Crows F/S and Strnadica off the top of my head and I reckon there are dozens of others.

What I’ve heard is that DGB has no tank. Can’t run out a game.
All the skills in the world are no good if you can’t run.
Especially for key position players that are ideally on ground 90% of the time

He is obviously not working hard enough on it. Needs to run more to build his tank. I don’t buy the notion everyone cant build a tank talk, you 100% can if you work hard enough.

I know when I start running again and really commit to it I can go further and further every few weeks.

I remember someone named Broadbent being considered as the next big thing. I think the fact he played for Peel helped a bit, but not sure if he ever got drafted.

Nope. Not sure what happened to him either.

WAFL website suggests he played a few years at South Freo in the reserves mainly. No stats for 2024 - He profile lists him as Perth player now so perhaps he's moved again.

Broadbent moved from Peel to SF because of opportunities & the struggle to compete against Freo depth rucks. He played a few games at Collie & a few in reserves at SF & then left the WAFL to play for Eaton in the SWFL last season. He generally played forward & then back later in the year & hardly rucked.
He’s currently playing in the NT for the Tiwi Bombers & will play for Perth this season.

Absolutely sucks. I hate Carlton but all injuries suck and they have had a few this pre-season.
