Sweid has been Mister Consistent so far this season, producing solid performances every time he's stepped onto the field. Here he had some issues with his disposal but was strong and tough on the inside as he always is, winning the ball and generating forward momentum for his team. While he was only credited with 4 tackles I felt that his pressure around the ground was excellent, creating a number of rushed possessions and turnovers.

Is his kicking on the run as concerning, from an overall perspective, as it seemed in this footage?

I think it is up to the player to make the choice.

Yeah it is.

Agreed with those who have said they'd like to see F/S prioritised over NGA's if there is a situation like this. But I guess, it if helps us, so be it.

For this one, without knowing anything about him, I would imagine this is a fairly simple choice. More so than opportunity, or grew up supporting a particular club or whatever - his 2 choices are in different states. I would imagine that would be a big factor, getting the choice of where he wants to live.

Yeh it’s a hard one with tevita considering David is north west Melbourne born a bred, started his career in Melbourne aswell, and then moved to port for a few years and then straight back to melb. Different to other cases where players are father son, and they go into nga academies up north because of their family moving there permanently, say Blakey, white etc
And it’s not like rodan was a superstar club champion for port, just got over the f/s threshold for port and played for 3 clubs.

Is Rodan tracking to be good?
He's a good player however the caveat with him is that he is an early developer and has power and strength that others in his age group do not have yet. The height would also be some concern given his fathers size.

On the flip side - he is skilled, good hand to eye, decent decision maker and nice kicking action.

the last bloke (I can think of) made the right choice

Go to a perennial finalist and one we beat last week. Or a basket case still looking for handouts after a decade of ineptitude

Rodan was a pretty good player for us those years and had his best years with us

There's just something not right about a f/s eligible player also being eligible for NGA pathway. Surely the point of the NGAs is to give opportunities to players who would otherwise not have the opportunity or would choose not to follow the Aussie Rules pathway - would be pretty easy to put a caveat that a f/s eligible player is not eligible for NGA.

It depends where they live. The real question mark should not be F/S over NGA but why is he NGA eligible if his dad was an AFL player? The Blakey case was different as he lived his whole life in Sydney and to progress to the next level he had to play Swans academy. I am not sure young blokes in Melbourne who are coming through normal pathways and who have parents that have played AFL footy fit the criteria. In the end personally it is not a massive deal for me.

I also think it's like a lot of things in the AFL industry, people and fans want black and white, this or that, hard and fast rules.
But keeping rules, compensation and academies a little grey, it keeps the conversation going, it keeps stories being able to be written, it adds intrigue and keeps the names and league in the papers, website clicks and radio waves.
As the media around the trade/draft period grows the "will he won't he" questions are content I don't think they want to give up.
