Eh. Past has shown that the further up the ground Milera plays, the more lost he looks
Does appear to be more comfortable reading the ball across half back.

I don't see how we can compare Lukosius who cost massive draft capital, to Cumming who came for no draft capital whatsoever.

He was never going to be a Dangerfield type of FA. He's just a very solid, plug and play wing/HB option who is well ahead of the other options we already had. He's been good so far and cost us nothing more than a salary. We've come out well ahead by having recruited him.
This +1

He helps raise the floor of our team

Strange hill to die on, IMO as long as his hamstring issues remain behind him he's looking to be a great pick up especially given his cost was only salary cap.

Disagree here. If his form stays like this it isnt a great deal.

Reports are that he was paid around $800,000 per year on a 6 year deal.

Thats a chunk of change for a player that hasn't really had much impact on our season so far.

The good news is that we are 4-2 and his best is far better than he has been dishing up. Hopefully he works into it and really impacts as the season progresses.

His best position is still half-back IMO. We’re playing him wing due to a lack of other options.
Think this is spot on.

Wing is a tough position, couldn't get into the game at all a couple of weeks back and perhaps it was just played more on the other wing. But when he's played at HBF, he's played his best footy to date.

That said, when he has managed to get involved he's been great, really strong at the contest too. Just a matter of trying to get him involved more as we clearly rate him highly with the contract we gave him.

Didn't see much of him at GWS. But is this all we get from Cumming?
14 disposals a game, couple of nice things, solid, nothing special? Or is there more coming - hopefully?

If we keep him on the wing, probably, those his stats will probably trend up to the lat teens.

I would like to see us move Cummings to the half back flank. Though most of that is I don't like Nankervis on the half back flank and want to see him on a wing (which is probably a statement in how lukewarm I am on Nank).

Still, even if Cummings doesn't, he's tough and a good field kick which makes a solid wing.

Happy with these 2 guys’ recruitment. Can’t work out how good Cumming is though. Seems to just plod along getting a few touches here and there. Has nice skills. But doesn’t seem to get a lot of footy. Thoughts?

Played out of position. He should be coming off half back.

I mean there’s a lot of good players on that list, even right at the end of it. Moreso shows how much of a bargain ANB/Peatling were

Cumming’s been fine, playing his role decently enough. Though I agree with the above, he should be played at HB

He's the one we gave up the least for (in terms of draft capital), and that's probably being justified so far. He's been good without being great. Gets his disposals somewhere in the teens, mostly kicks, and generally uses it well. Goes in hard when it's his turn. Probably the only real disappointment has been his lack of scoreboard impact. After his two goals in round 1, he hasn't kicked another since. He's had 7 shots on goal for 2.2 and three which failed to score.

If this is all we get, he's still a handy player and a big upgrade on what we had before in his position. But I still think there is a better player in there that we just haven't seen in Crows colours yet.

He is getting continuality back to his body and can go up a level with confidence.

We are setting a very low bar for an experienced recruit.
He has been average this year
He need to improve on his current output
Play him in the spot we should be, get the ball in his hands 20+ times and he'll be fine.

But he hasnt been "average", hes performing his role pretty adequately in a side who struggles to use its wingers.

Been a pretty handy acquisition this year, however it is worth noting he's a winger in a side that doesn't need (or even want) a lot of output out of its wing slots.

Still, he doing a a good amount of work defensively, and there's been enough damage to mitigate the low touches.

"Experienced" recruits usually cost you significant draft capital. He cost us none, and with our list profile the salary outlay isn't much. He's a free hit.

If we find a better winger/flanker than him, then we give him the flick. Until then, he has a place in the side and, hopefully, another level he can go to.

I always thought, Peatling, ANB and Cumming will all raise the floor of our team and they have. If it means Murphy (AFL talent not there) and Smith (age and form) are out of the side now, its a step up

ANB above Peatling is criminal. JP is far and away our best recruit thus far.

Exactly. It's easy to forget that these were essentially bargain basement pickups. The three of them combined cost us two middling-to-late 2nd round picks (pick 28 last year and our 2nd round pick this year), and we even got some late 2025 draft capital back in return (3rd and 4th rounders tied to GWS).

Yes, they're not Rankine or Dawson in terms of adding value to the side, but they are absolutely solid best 22 selections each week, huge upgrades on the likes of Jones and McHenry that we used first-round draft picks to get. All three are still in their 20s (Peatling 24, Cumming 26, ANB 29) so they have years left to play, Peatling and Cumming already have an established relationship from having been at GWS together, and ANB also brings significant leadership from a premiership side. And we didn't have to give up a single draft pick of significance to get them.

It's all about maximising return on minimal investment. Would I be happy if we had given up a first-round pick for Cumming? Probably not. But we didn't - we kept it and took Draper as well.

He's one of those types where his disposal is usually so exquisite that you remember 10 of his touches more than the 30 of a Crouch or Laird. Definitely has room to improve, but is calm with the ball in hand and has hit up some brilliant goal assisting passes.

Has also had a few real braindead moments that have cost us goals (the big double fist into the opponent's goalsquare a few weeks ago sticks out), but he's not alone there. In general, could get it more but at least you know when he's got it, he generally does something pretty good with it.
