We need to keep 1 and 2 and take the best 2 players.

What if…..

We kept 1, traded 2 and our hawthorn pick and ended up with 3 top ten or near abouts picks.

People say we don’t have enough high end talent. It’s true. We don’t, so we fill the coffers.

It’s not as simple as the best two this year. The top 3 or 4 are very subjective. This isn’t a Wardlaw and Sheezel type of draft.

No we dont.

IMO we dont need pick 2 to land the 2nd highest rated player on our rankings.

There are likely 3 to 4 players ranked so close it doesnt matter. Sharp, Cumming, Lindsay and CDT.
Don't get this kind of talk myself, if they're all rated so closely then use the picks we have to take the guys we think fit our team the best. Don't just trade down (assuming we can) hoping the guy we actually want will be there.

Good news, a soft whimp who would hold back the development of young competotors if he stayed. Well played WC.
Don’t think we need to shit talk someone who loves the club and has done all he could during a largely tough time while being nudged out the door because the vagaries of the draft, free agency and rebuilds means it’s in our interest to let him go. I wish him the best and hope he snags a flag because we go on and threepeat.

If Richmond really wants CDT, we feign interest in him and then offer our 2nd pick and Hawthorn's first for Richmond's picks 3 & 4. I know that is weighted in our favour, but we tell them they have to do the deal or risk losing CDT.

Loves the club?? Publically hoaring himself around mid season (while captain). Been a limp wet rag in the media.
Post game he said I focused on my game not that captain stuff - leaders never ever, not ever put themselves first. Thats a window into him.

Best result for all parties provided we get band 1. Wish him all the best and hope he wins a flag there in the next couple of years.
Thrilled for pick 2

However, ditching the club he captains for $$ is poor, and being a petty bitch is satisfying 💅.

Wish him no flags or success at Brisbane, and I hope he's still playing when we rise again to win our next flag.

Even better - hope he requests a trade back to us he watches us overtake Brisbane, & we tell him soz no thx.

I wouldn't be too sure he loved the club that much, from what I heard he was pretty close to leaving for more money last time his contract was up

You do realise it’s very much the club pushing on him to get pick 2 and not the other way around don’t you?

He’d love to stay for anything remotely close to the Brisbane offer.

CDT vs Sharp (n championships) = Sharp
CDT vs Sharp (Seniors) = Sharp
CDT (Talent League) vs Sharp (U18) = Sharp
CDT vs Sharp (Combine) = CDT (maybe)

Lol some sort of battle. Lets get on to the real battle.

1. Duursma vs Sharp (n championship) = Sharp

2. Duursma vs Sharp (Seniors) = Tie/TBA (I'd give to Sharp due to u17 Seniors final)

3. Duursma (Talent league) vs Sharp (U18) = Duursma

4. Duursma vs Sharp (Combine) = Duursma

So what one metric has CDT bested Sharp besides from Combine??????

It's really cant be argued that both Sharp and Duursma are not a tier above. There is no competition between the two against the rest. I'm not even freaking including underage performances which Sharp wins by a length of flemmington
I agree with you, but CDT is the consensus pick 2, hence why we should split and end up with Sharp anyway.

It doesn't matter what the vic media think the "consensus pick 2 is", it matters whether another team wants him enough to trade up for him while still giving us a high enough pick to take Sharp.

Just say you wish him well and be done with it

Didn't he literally say yesterday he had no idea what he was doing yet? :tearsofjoy: Every man and his dog knew for 6 months he was gone. I know you just can't out and say yeah I'm out the door, deuces ✌️. But it's still pretty funny.

If he loved the club that much, why would he hold them to ransom to try to up their offer from 4 years to 6 years, given his injury history?

I don't have any ill-will towards him, but people need to acknowledge that he took the Brisbane opportunity over loyalty to the club he captains.

Someone who bled blue and gold might have stayed and backed themselves in to help the club get off the deck, and earn another contract when the four years are up.

Where has his leadership been demanding more from players? Seeing a Vice Captain and a Captain leave in successive years is pretty telling on where we’re at, but also how they’ve chosen to lead and steer the club.

Footballers have a limited time to cash in on their abilities. This is probably Oscar's last big contract. Same with Barrass last year, at some point, you have to put yourself first. I don't think anyone can begrudge him of that. It just doesn't fit with our needs at this time so he goes with everyone's blessing.

That is true.

I guess it puts into perspective how incredible Travis Boak was to stay at Port. He could have gone home to Geelong, who were courting him with huge money etc., but took less money to stay with a club who were so much of a rabble they had to put out tarps because nobody wanted to go to their games.

With Oscar both he and the club are at fault for this mess.
The club should never have given him the captaincy before he signed a deal.
He shouldn't have accepted the captaincy until signed.
He also shouldn't have gone sneaking around to clubs shopping his services in his first year as captain, just idiocy.

The club statement on assessing options is just a blanket press statement buying time until October when it's all official.

If he finds some success good on him, but not at our expense. Hope our boys smash the lions in every encounter while he's still playing.

I'd like Oscar to stay too. I'd like to win another flag even more. Pick 2 does more for us over the next ten years than Oscar does.

Let the guy get paid.

I agree with you. Let's make the best out of pick 2, get our winning culture back, and learn from the mistakes of the past few years, which includes being wiser and more ruthless with our trades.

Not gifting Oscar another long contract is a step in the right direction.

They have chosen to rebuild. You can’t rebuild by giving 6 years @$1m to an injury prone player.

Next year eagles will have a new captain. Old captain will be long memory.

I don’t think there are good short term choices here and they went with what likely gives elite talent in long term by sacrificing in an area where they think they are sorted long term.

If we didn’t have a Reid and shanahan , reckon he re-signs

Let’s not forget, we could comfortably afford to well and truly match and beat any other club offer if we so wanted to.

We just don’t - because for once the club has realised this is a gilt edged opportunity to get a top draft pick, kickstart the rebuild before Tasmania come in.

Honestly we should be giving [PLAYERCARD]Oscar Allen[/PLAYERCARD] a damn medal for the timing of it all.

Love the dude even if he’s been out of form for two seasons, but the timing could not be better for us. Believe me we couldn’t plan this.

Best of luck to him.

I wouldn't say anyone is "in the wrong" here.

We can't give Allan the security he's chasing, whilst another club can, simple as that.

Captain or no captain, WCE are 100% right to baulk at a long term deal for him, given our history and his own injury history. If Brisbane want to pony it up then it's on them. They can take the risk seeing as it costs them nothing but salary.

Meanwhile Allen probably wants to stay, but he'd be silly to turn down a long term deal on good money playing a key role for a flag contender whilst we're drowning at the bottom of the ladder.

Nobody is at fault. Everyone gets what they want to an extent. The optics of him being captain and ditching don't particularly look good, but take that tag away and he's just a player trying to get the most out of his career.

Meanwhile Allen probably wants to stay
I dunno man. If I was casually entertaining offers and then my employer dragged me out in front of a media circus to look contrite and say "sorry", I would have mentally checked out.
