Hey eagles fans, sorry to intrude your board but I got some in the know information from one of our Essendon correspondents who makes content on us. I thought you guys might be pretty interested in it since it gives some insight into what your draft recruiters are thinking at the moment.

Seems to be the growing consensus.
Cheers.

Thanks mate. I would much rather Sharp and Duursma as I don't rate CDT. That said, our club has a phenomenal record in drafting KPP, so maybe they see something good in him.

Was interesting seeing Reid come down to the ground after the game and have a good ole chat with Warner.
Not often an injured player that didn't play in the game goes out to the ground to chat with the opposition.
Would like to have been a fly on one of their shoulders.

Would you swap Oscar for Chadd ????? in a heartbeat. When you get down to it that is essentially what we would be doing by offering 1 or 2 for him.

We have had 2-3 years of drafting with decent picks and continue to make up the bottom 3. So go another 2 years drafting potential elite players and possibly keep hanging around the bottom or bite the bullet and go hard at getting Warner now which will undoubtedly make our midfield instantly better and more competitive while still having enough draft capital to get a couple more high end young talent?

Don't know about y'all but I am sick of making up the bottom three and being looked at like a basketcase.
It's not just getting that one elite player that will fix everything it is the flow on effect that will.

not sure if posted but Ryno on radio this morning saying he reckons the Oscar deal is 900k a year. Band 1 easy.
If i was a Brisbane player and they are bringing Allen in on money that would make him one of the top 5 highest paid at the club given what his output has been over the last 5 years i would be pissed.

I don't think Sydney expected to be so far off the mark this year. After round 5 when Warner put pen to the deal they thought their 0-2 was an anomaly, they were 2-3 and back on the way up.

Clearly it wasn't, perhaps they've had a thought that they need to recalibrate.

Swans missed good players and had no forward line for the first half of the year. Late season wins don't generally mean much but it's not surprising they won 8 of their last 11.

McDonald 0
Adams 4
Amartey 8
Gulden 9
Papley 10
Cunningham 10
Mills 11

If they can land one of McKay/Curnow from the Blues they will be a massive threat to make the GF and lose again in 2026.

Don't get me wrong I can see Keys and Woosha's argument. I understand the desire to get better now and I also fully accept there's no Reid-esque out and out star. It's all very mid. I get it.

Hell, had we had these picks in last years draft I think my belief would be more widely shared.

My big aversion to any hypothetical for Warner is the short two year deal and the window of opportunity it presents. We KNOW he'll be eligible as a free agent and we KNOW there was a huge interest in him coming home now, he opted to stay on a short deal.

This is very much a potential have cake and eat it now gig. That is my argument.
Its all about cost imo.
I would take Warner in a heartbeat for our pick 1 or 2, there is no kid in the draft that is going to have his impact immediately.
We are talking about adding mature mids and experience around our draftees and there are no better options than Warner if it was to eventuate.
If it does eventuate our pick 1 or 2 should suffice imo, we may throw in a pick like Hawks 2nd round pick to make it happen but we would not pay anymore.
He was very close to signing with us before his 2 year extension, perfect world is Warner comes when he is a FA and we continue rebuilding with our picks and try to attract some decent players with our 2nd round picks on.
But we would be completely stupid not to trade in Warner if the opportunity arises and the cost is as I described.
Then use our other picks to draft the best available mid at 2, try to get Cumming and a KPD prospect with the rest, speed the rebuild up considerably.
We get an elite mid we are craving for less opportunity cost than we had on the table earlier, keep most of our draft hand and wont need to be chasing much more in 2025 except a solid B grade prospect in the likes of Davies, Ah Chee.

Key forward imo atm but if
They can address that they are right in the premiership window imo.
Yes, they know that and also allows them to push L McDonald back as a KPD option insuring they are more balanced.

I’m going to trust our recruitment team after last years draft. If they view CDT as the top prospect so be it. Having a team of giants with A.Reid and CDT could really terrorise opponents…. If A.Reid learns how to kick straight

Plonk A.Reid down back, take his goal kicking out the equation

In the very unlikely event that Warner became available to us this year and was gettable with pick 1, we’d be insane not to do that trade. A proven A grade midfielder who’s still only 24 with 108 games experience would instantly make our side better

Trading away pick 1 means we likely miss out on Duursma - looks a high end talent but read through the comments here and it’s far from certain he reaches his ceiling at West Coast with doubts over what his best position at AFL level might be.

Saying we can get Warner in 2 years for free is a flawed assumption. There’s no guarantee of that happening as he might decide to stay in Sydney or ask to go to Fremantle which are both realistic options. He’ll also be a restricted free agent so Sydney might well be able to match to force a trade which will eliminate the free bit

The reality is he won’t ask to be traded, nor would be pick 1 on its own be enough to satisfy Sydney. But if it miraculously became an option (pick 1 for Warner) we’d be mad not to do it
If Warner is to be traded, it's because Sydney need to get it done to bring Curnow in. It also presumably means Warner has agreed to move to WA despite just signing a new contract.

I don't see how pick 1 wouldn't be enough? It would be different if we made the approach to try & poach him.

But agree, its a moot point. He's not getting traded.

I know everyone’s going to say “you’re no fun” blah blah blah, but why is there 6 pages of Chad Warner talk, lol?

He will come home at the end of 2027, he clearly wanted to skip the worst part of the rebuild here and then join when things look a lot more positive, we’ll get him for nothing at the end of 2027.

We’ve got two drafts before Tasmania come in, we have to hit them both hard before we go spunking pick 1 or 2 on players, especially a guy like Chad who needs a complete midfield around him to actually look good, he’s a very exciting player but he’s not who a lot of you make him out to be.

Brisbane pushing hard for flags, with Daniher retired a FF is their only missing link.
I can guarantee you not a single Brisbane player would be pissed.

Let's get this thread back on track.

When is bombard shitting in his hands?

I'm a bit over Warner chat, so if you'd like to propose a new subject matter happy to oblige.

Not even being insincere here, go for it man, I'll second you.

I was thinking on my drive home last night what our best 22 next year looks like not yet factoring in any draftee or trades and solely what we have on the list as of right now (sans OA who we presume will be gone), factoring in no injuries presuming the five interchange rule comes in.

Hough HEdwards Ginbey
Yeo Brock Maric
Chesser? Kelly McCarthy
Duggan* Waterman Ryan/Cripps
Brockman Shanahan A.Reid
Flynn H Reid Baker
Int: Hewett, Grego, Dewar, Hall, H Davis

Jesus that's dire lads and ladies. I hate that.
We lack star power across every element of the ground.
I've optimistically left Duggan HF as I think he'd be a much better player forward of the defensive arc though this is wishful.

I also hate this with a passion but can't work out how to polish a turd to improve the 35 odd players to make it stink less.

Do you mean facetious? Or definitely talking about muscle fibres?

I think though that a lot of people knew were hadn't started rebuilding until this year thanks to simmo.
We have only just bottomed out so we either hit the draft hard and make our own stars, this will take time and definitely what I'd like us to be doing or we trade for stars like Geelong/collingwood does and Hawks are trying to do.

That might be how you think you would see it if you were in their shoes. But you would be in a very small minority. 95% of human beings don't think that way. Look at the unrest at St Kilda. Brisbane might be a well enough run club and a happy enough club to contain it and have it not affect team performance. But i guarantee you there are blokes bitching about it amongst themselves in the change rooms.
