Wow, now this is what you call a draft bolter. On a field with a bunch of kids that have already cemented their spots in the upcoming draft, Sullivan Robey was the star of this game, having such a dominant performance that at one point Ollie Greeves crowned him as king in celebration of one of his goals. Playing heavy midfield minutes at this level for the first time, Robey was near unstoppable... his combination of size, pace, power and physicality too much for the Jets mids to handle. In slippery conditions on a heavy deck, Robey showed his superior balance and coordination to keep his feet and find room in tight spaces to extract the ball and release his teammates.

It takes a combination of talent and opportunity to become a success, and even though it's taken a while to get here, there's no doubt that Sullivan Robey has captured the attention of draft watchers and recruiters alike, and they'll be keen to see what he can do through the remainder of this finals series.
He looks like a young Christian Petracca - just so much more solid and powerful than his peers.

It looks like he’s been playing predominantly as a lead up forward, similar to Petracca too.

40 touches is a crazy statement to make as a midfielder though. Probably moves his draft stock up 20+ places on that game alone

Eh. Was firmly on the Sharp train but no so much anymore. I understand he’s playing a hard role in the seniors but he was last year too where he arguably played better games. Love his inside work but his speed is concerning. If the rule changes around the game continue to reduce stoppages then he becomes far less useful.

2 and 14 for 5,6 from Ess
1- Duursma
5- Cumming
6- Farrow

Instantly improves our transition game big time.

Essendon would only likely be trading up for Duursma in this scenario, so they'd want 1.

Its starting to seem like it’s not such a shallow draft after all. Top 20 still seems to be decent quality??

I'll add compared to his teammates his possssion count was solid

Central district is always low possesion count. Then you compare clearances and tackles and you see him up there even though he split 65% fwd 35% MID

3mins and 36 seconds in the video is what needs to be said about sharp. Two way runner
Dittmar!
There’s one that faded quickly after being liked as U18 in WA and also did a train on with us!

Farrow a bit of a reach there and who is going to give them the ball to transition Bradd?

Last year is looking like an outstanding draft and this one is looking decent without the star quality at the top end.
Not a bad draft just not deep on top end.

It’s very, very shallow. There are 8-10 players including the academy boys who are very good but don’t hold a candle to 2023 or 2024 top 10 or how next year’s top 5 project. After those 8-10 I don’t think any of the players would have gone 1R last year.

Getting an above average player after pick 15-20 this year is not going to be easy in my view. There are players in the 3R from last year that I would pick in the 1R this year. We’re in a very good situation with the picks we have. Absolute worst case scenario we should have pick 1,2 and 7 or 8 to take the three best midfielders available or 2 mids and Schubert.

get Band 1 for draper.

Big D to you.

Personally pretty big on Farrow, yeah slightly high but wouldn’t be shocked if he goes within 2-3 picks of that pick. Adds instant class to our back half with that potential to turn into a Dawson kind of mid down the line which I think a player like Lindsay lacks.

Alex Davies springs to mind. Also the Neale possibility whilst Cumming, Duursma, Harley and Hewett develop. Nab Cody Walker next year and midfield done.

That spud Jay Clark reckons Draper is going to sign a deal at $850k a year for at least 5 years. Could pretty easily be band 1.

If it is I think they are more likely to want to trade 5,6 for 1 and 22/Liam Ryan so I don’t mind it.

Draft seems pretty strong when Jordan Dawson is available in the middle of the first round.

In all seriousness, nothing annoys me more than seeing
Pick 46
Plays like: Gary Ablett mixed with Chris Judd

Interesting. I think we lose if Ryan is included in that trade.

What’s your ideal scenario for the draft this off season?
Realistically:

Liam Ryan for James Barrat
13,22,32 for 7 and Alex Davies, no bids
1, F2 for 5,6
50 for Lachie Neale and no Annable bid

1-Duursma (ESS) via WCE
2-Sharp (WCE)
3-CDT (RICH)
4-Lindsay (RICH) via NM
5-Cumming (WCE) via ESS
6-Schubert (WCE) via ESS
7-Grlj (WCE) via GCS

Rookie A: Banfield, Stumpf, Knobel, Blight
Rookie B: Evans, Williams
*Rookies dependent on assistance spots

Barrat for Ryan would be a dream, liked him a lot last year.

Why so ready to give up pick 1? Duursma seems like a runaway now for pick 1 - given we just finished with 1 win then shouldn’t we be taking the best player available. He has so many facets to his game so fills multiple needs for us.

I was asked for an update of the age by position so here is

Confession. This is work in progress. I am in the split 1 camp (likely and our R2) with Essendon wanting Duursma for picks 5 and 6. Then bundling up for the Port pick the Suns have for pick for the

Sharp - true midfielder
Cumming - balanced midfielder
Schubert - best KPF
Ainsworth - KPD
Depending on deals and Ryan, we may have another pick or push it into 2026
Then our NGA and F/S for free
Assume we get more Rookie/NGA spots

Real shame we didn’t have a pick for one of Barrat, Mraz or O’Farrell. Would have rounded out the draft beautifully and we really should have taken Dodson instead of Grego but I digress.

We need midfielders. Whilst possibly being the best player and having one of the highest ceilings, I’m not convinced he settles as an inside or balanced midfielder. In my view he ends up a winger or maybe a flanker. There’s going to be a strong market for him in a weak draft and we should capitalise on that.

Cumming is one of the few players that has athleticism, is a footballer and great attitude. He’s very much the modern balanced mid and has forward craft where he can play R1 2026 at HFF and slowly transition to full time mid. I would prefer him to Duursma head to head and personally think he ends up the better player.

Adding Grlj and his pace and lateral moment or Schubert’s versatility, marking power and cleanliness below his knees would be a bonus given my above comments on Cumming.

I liked what Barrat was last year and could be a decent CHB type.
Is there knocks on him and he hasn't debuted despite playing most VFL games this year?

I’d take cumming at 2 here.

I think there’s more chance Richmond go CDT/Cumming than CDT/Lindsay or Sharp. If we take cumming I think they go CDT/Grlj and we take sharp/schubert and not sure who at 7.
