He's umpired 119 games and yet to umpire in a final - the comment you made above was raised by multiple fans last week in regards to his snub from even being an emergency in week 1

If he doesn't get a gig next year, fans may start to riot
What a coincidence - Rodan was playing for Port Adelaide that day in 2007 when they got absolutely butchered by a murderous Geelong outfit. The margin? 119 points!!!

Spooky!!!!

Which one's that again?

How Rodan keeps missing out boggles the mind. Maybe because he refuses the goal reviews that Crypto get paid for?

Foot.

The whole goal umpiring fraternity is weird to me. 90% of decisions are dead obvious and the contentious ones you are never going to prove either way at a local footy game with no cameras, they can't even do it at AFL level with a million cameras, so how do they even get promoted through the ranks? It would be nothing other than how much you suck up to the person in charge.

Always thought the same.

It's gotta come down to whoever does their wanky mannerisms the best.

Player get treatment at sessions on the sidelines all the time - usually not in front of anyone not working or playing for the club.

If he’s getting treatment at an open media session he still expect some privacy.

That said.. tell the club and have them shut her down.. give her a spray if you have to but making a public spectacle should be down the list a bit.. not the first reaction

Go Catters

In regards to yesterday's photographer - it's not the first time Smith has had words with her or other female journalists at media invited training sessions this year

“When he left the field at the last training session, he said to me ‘did you get enough f***ing photos yet?’”...

...“He’s sworn at people three times, me twice and an ABC female reporter.

We know that the GFC media team reached out to her during the training session, while Hocking reached out with a formal apology later in the day in regards to yesterday

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a bit of talk with Bailey behind closed doors about his repeated little incidents with female journalists at these training sessions, and a reminder that they've been invited to do their job just as he is doing his job during training

Alison is a Geelong local, she's been with the Geelong Addy for 25 years, covering the football amongst other local activities and no doubt she'll be invited to the next open training session

If Bailey is going to get frustrated by journalists & photographers (seems especially female ones), then he may need to decide if he should be out on the field during that session or working inside

Had a depressed, alcoholic and abusive mother my whole life, mate.

Don't assume you know people on the internet. You don't know shit about me.
Didn’t say I knew anything abiut you.
You’re reaction is very antagonistic
Not looking to start a war of words just hoping or trying to educate you about people who suffer from mental demons.
Their responses can be overblown, and emotionally charged.
Anyway in no way is this about you or me
This is about Bailey Smith
Leaving in peace

I couldn't care less about the Smith spray.

It wasn't like she was sitting front row and he leaned over the fence and had a crack right into her face.
He might want the club to ban her though. Probably a smart move.

100% correct.

Which is why everyone applauding him for speaking about his genuine mental health issues and then lambasting him for this are complete hypocrites.

They aren't banning a 25yr veteran in the industry, especially when they've already reached out to her to formally apologise

Banning her from doing her job would absolutely not be a smart move - that's when you could see a formal complaint from Alison & the other journalist Bailey has had a go at making formal complaints

Smith simply needs to pull his head in when at training & understand they're doing their job just as he's doing his

But he was jumper up shorts down, towel trying to cover the gap ...

And the footage of the abuse ... not exactly a tirade.

A key reason it's likely be reported in that manner is because it's Smith's third time of going off at a female photographer or journalist at these open training sessions this year

Would seem it got to the stage where Alison's media colleagues weren't going to sit back & let this time fly under the radar

Smith vindicated in my book. Even the trainer/physio looked pissed off at the intrusion.

Yes I can understand that.

Both sides, I think, need to develop slightly thicker skins.

Well put and thank you.
I do think some on here are overreacting
Thank you for encapsulating exactly what went on
A couple of things however that are surprising to me is that with Bailey Smith’s mental issues. I am surprised there is not more communication with photographic staff and how he should be treated.
Without knowing I suspect it was triggered by the fact that he was Photographed in the somewhat vulnerable situation
While this may seem a bit of a stretch that is what it can seem to someone battling to overcome depression
As others have suggested if this was a male photographer photographing female footballers receiving treatment to their upper thigh lower back area it may well be viewed differently
This in no way justifies Bailey Smith’s reaction however it does give some clarification
As I said earlier in my reply, I’m surprised there is not more communication between the club and the media in regards to what can be photographed
Or perhaps photographers seeking permission first from players receiving treatment or having private conversations

The club simply goes to Advertiser and advises that photographers are welcome. However one particular photographer is not.

Smith will likely be asked to apologise or at least make contact and explain why he felt it was an intrusion. On that point, it's nothing to so with us or the media. If he felt there was an intrusion then that's all that really matters.

I just think the media need to pull their heads in too and stop acting like this was anything more than what it was. Using terms like "verbal tirade" and "expletive ridden exchange" is a bit of a stretch. Based on the vision he walked over to the fence and appeared to exchange words - but at no stage was he gesturing aggressively or doing anything that would constitute abuse. So what if he dropped a few F bombs - so did McRae and Daicos on national television in post match interviews last weekend.

Smith was clearly unhappy about something and we may never know the reasons behind it - but it sounds as though he and that photographer have history. There was some chat recently that he'd had photographers hanging around his place at some stage trying to get snaps. Not sure if there's any truth to that but if there was, then it might explain why he did what he did. The media and photographers hound these players into submission so they have to expect that there's a bit that comes back their way occasionally. You can't have it both ways.

Yeah, nah they won't be doing that

If she's been involved with photography at training sessions & game days for 20 odd years, that would mean hundreds of footballers have been in front of her cameras at some stage or another, and yet there's been no reported incidents until recently

The quickest way for this to blow up in Geelong's face is for them to ban her with what would be no valid reason, which then would likely see a formal complaint lodged

Hocking has already issued an apology on behalf of the club - doubt we'll see any further action taken from what happened yesterday
