Could Gallop fill Ah Chee's role, with his departure looking likely? As in, along side Hipwood, Morris and Allen? That would be tall but still have a lot of running power with both Hipwood and Gallop good mobility and defensive pressure.
Bruce Reville seems the most logical replacement IMO or we could also use Jarrod Berry in the role.

Berry is far too important on the wing imo.

Wonder if we could put Jaspa in that role with the license to go wherever he wants.

How many defensive jobs has Ah Chee actually done this season and been all that effective?

I don't disagree with Berrys importance on the wing.

Fletcher could be an option but he's going so well behind the ball.

Even Lohmann getting more responsibility wouldn't hurt him..

Yeah agree with that, just trying to think of ways to fit Answerth, Coleman and potentially Ridley into the team. I think Jaspa has huge potential to play a Whitfield type role and just link up all over the place

Relying on a tall forward line comprised of a teenager and 20 year is a bold strategy cotton. We will need Allen. We will be able to play all 3 in the side. Eric won’t be back until later in the year next year.
Eric can come back and not have to worry about being a KP player.

Answerth was starce's replacement when Starce went out due to concussion earlier in the season. Yes, he's a couple of cm smaller, but he's the most like for like replacement for starce that we have in the squad. You also can't drop Gallop, because he's getting better and better with each game and it would really stunt his growth. My worry is about hipwood. No one saw gallop growing like this, and when hipwood eventually recovers, there won't be a spot for him in the team unless Allen or Gallop starts underperforming.

Gallop's doing things in cutthroat games that 19 year olds don't do.

The tackling and pressure he brings is that brutish big man influence that we've been lacking.

With another pre season under his belt I doubt he'll ever be out of the side.

Sure there's a long way to go but the way he's improved from his 1st game to his 5th is a trajectory that you couldn't help but be excited by.
I absolutely agree and am super excited by him, but I was trying to more say with Allen and Draper coming in we have the luxury to not have to put two very young key forwards in every game, every high pressure situation and allow them a week or 2 here or there to have a week off or recover from small niggles rather than push through. I think Gallop and Morris are excellent modern key forwards - a little shorter with greater mobility whilst still having the aerial presence. Ty's pressure is so impressive for a 19yo or any forward with his physical attributes so lets hope it is a huge selection squeeze forced through so many players pushing each other next year in the Key positions.

I don’t really get this argument although I see it a lot. His hands, decision making and skills are the main issues and they’ll need to be better if he’s a flanker imo. His main strength lately has been his effort and ability to at least bring the ball to ground

The game yesterday showed us again how Bailey is very rocks and diamonds, can be great one quarter and diabolical the next. For that reason he's probably less vital than the rest of our core team.

I'd still rather have him for another year to try to win another flag, but after that, if he wants to chase the money, that's okay.

If he did leave this offseason, who would replace him? I'd only be as confident in our premiership campaign if Linc was cherry ripe to start the season and took his place in the forward line. McLachlan needs at least another season to get to that level. Unless Levi moves to the forward line regularly?

Bailey is X factor player though, similar to Rayner. We can't expect consistent toil and grunt from them, but they can turn the game in a dime - that skill is rare and what separates the elite from average. We are lucky to have 3 of them in Rayner, Bailey, Lohmann. we'll be hanging on to all 3 for as long as we can.

For a tall to play on flank, you need good endurance. Eric has that. That position allows you to roam a bit further up the ground. Often frees you up a bit in that you usually don’t get the best defender on you.

Yeha but to play on a flank you want better skills and ability that Hippy has as well. Think I’d rather someone like Annable, Linc, Levi, Jaspa in those spots. If we weren’t so stacked for flankers then maybe but he wouldn’t be our best option there imo

For 1.3 million a year, if that figure is to be believed, I don't know if hanging onto all three is best for long term premiership contention. If he's willing to take a deal similar to Hugh's to stay, great, otherwise I'd let him chase the money.

It could become our point of difference and something novel like how cats are using Blicavs. Hipwood's field kicking is pretty good and he can fly for a mark for sure.

As a lead up forward to the wing he already understands when to present as a relief mark - we are just leaving him permanently there and if in trouble you can kick it to his vicinity and hope for a contest or a mark on a much smaller opposition winger.

Oh - I was just talking about his current deal which runs out next year. I'd love to keep him for 2026 and not trade him early. If Bailey wants the mega contract as a RFA, all power to him I guess.

Sure, I'd prefer him here next year too. I'd only consider it if the club were sure Linc would be right for opening round.

Ty’s pressure for a key forward is next level good. I hope he never loses that once he becomes a certain starter for us, and not just trying to make an impression starting out in the team. Can be a real weapon when your key talls pressure the ball carrier the way he does.
Has been the perfect replacement for Hipwood in that regard. As much as we rag on Hippy, he has excellent pressure and is super competitive.

Could be an option to explore in preseason but it’s hard enough to fit all our players into the team as it is without trying to shoehorn him in on the wing. Plenty of competition for spots next season

Still think that when fit Eric is easily in our best three tall forwards. His form mid last year and early this year was only bettered by Joe. Problem is he's had so many significant injuries that he's played through that we haven't got to see it.

Eric's field kicking is underrated but we have so many great wing options that it's going to be hard to squash everyone in

If Bailey stays he won't be on that kind of money.

That's the money clubs throw around to convince players to leave. If they're happy to stay it's unusual to force the club to pay top dollar.

Yep that’s the issue, it’ll be between he and Gallop for the third tall forward spot which is a great issue to have. Gallop and Morris seem to work very well together and it’d be great to have them play together as much as possible considering they’re the future
