I'm a South Freo supporter and that had to be a 50m penalty.

Shocking game overall. The standard of the WAFL seems extremely poor for what is supposed to be the next level down from AFL.

The fact the umpires had it spelled out and would have realised they messed up and still could have done something and didnt is ridicules. Furthermore Souths player ran onto the field from the bench , another penalty lol

I don't agree. That 50 is against the spirit of the rules. Hoping to win based on a lame technicality is just being a sore loser.

Can't expect a bloke that's just won a premiership to not immediately celebrate and calmly hand the ball back.

Common sense prevailed.

Not a supporter of either team, but East Perth got a couple of dodgy frees/non calls to SF on the way to their fightback. Fair result in the end.

Yeah 100% should’ve been a 50 going by the rules.

But also if you’re the player kicking it in celebration after the siren went and then you end up losing your team the premiership I don’t think he’d be able to sleep for years.

We saw him take the kick and he was nowhere close to it. You can’t let technicalities like that decide a game. Nothing was done maliciously. They heard the siren and celebrated.

Interesting choice of Simpson medal, but it was hard to pick anyone. Free's two goals, while they were good snaps, they came from an accidental soccer over the boundary line and a short boundary throw in. Jones was the better ruck with hitouts and marking, and also kicked a goal.

They win the count 28 frees to 13 and the east perth housos are in here complaining about the umpires? Spare me.
Try taking the game on for more than a quarter if you want to win a grand final

It's not really the spirit of the game or the rule but East Perth should have been awarded a 50m penalty there to bring the kick to 45m out to kick for a flag winning post siren shot.

Welll, they shouldn’t have had the free the first place. Disgraceful decision

Exactly, the absolute grubs then tried to appeal for another 50 based on souths bench running onto the ground to celebrate- just as wafl organisers had also done with the stage equipment- maybe the wafl gf crew owed them 50m penalty too?

I mean we’re talking about a team that would’ve had about all of 3 minutes in front the entire game and continually ****ed around with the football until the last 10 min of the game .

They were clearly the inferior team all day (and season compared to souths) and yet people got the hide to say they were robbed??

They told Mark Readings after the game that they can't pay a 50 there and the WAFL rules align with it


Common sense prevailed either way, would have been an absolute disgrace to have paid that, Warner v Tigers in 2022 shows that common sense would apply at AFL level too

All East Perth players on screen (including Baker) had already dropped to their knees by the time the ball was kicked away (barring 2 players)

I cannot believe how many people think the umpires got that wrong, it shouldn't even be a debate, it was very well done by the umps, calm heads prevailed.

Probably wouldn't put Cox in my top 50 but I'd say the general consensus is that he alongside Sandilands and Gawn are the three greatest ruckmen of all time.

Depends on who you ask though, but I've seen those three names brought up most.

Lot of people already have Gawn as the greatest ruckman the game has ever seen.

It's referencing Law 19.2 from the AFL Laws of the Game, which WA Football adheres to

Gawn is number 1 equivalent to Dokic.
Sandilands always had Cox’s measure. Bit like Nadal / Federer.

Gawn is a bit like Cox, amazing player around the ground for a full size ruck, not actually all that dominant as an actual ruck. Not saying they're not great rucks, but they weren't even the best pure rucks in the time they were playing, let along ever.
If were selecting a team to to play a match to decide whether evil aliens destroy the Earth, and the evil aliens get second pick (of course using mind control to ensure their selected players compete to the fullest) do you really want Gawn rucking against prime Sandilands or NicNat for the fate of humankind?
