Worst state to be in for Oliver, poker machines everywhere.
I can’t wait to see how hilarious oliver looks in orange. They will need to keep the young kids away from Homebush, they will have nightmares after watching Clayton Oliver run around in that bright orange strip.

There was also the club announcing the re-signing of Stanley today - happened minutes before Twomey broke the news of the Curnow offer. I also don't think the photo Baz posted with Curnow today is a coincidence. 4D chess from Mackie

Stanley was announced weeks ago by our mate Kingy so I dont think thats related.
But I agree the baz photo is.
I agree with the other poster that we felt st kilda were either trying to drag it out til the last minute or weren't going to trade him at all so we played 4d chess on them and offered the picks elsewhere.
If curnow wanted to be at Sydney he would have nominated them by now.

lol fair we are shit

Ur not winning shit without him tho so pay up
amy poehler what GIF

I think 5 on the bench will reduce a significant amount of our advantage in running players. Other teams can go small and just rotate.

Yes/no - the interchange cap is still in play which will still impact rotations

You got more for Tim Kelly than what you are offering us for Curnow….

Mackie and wells are unreal no doubt, but Graham wright isn’t a pushover and there’s no chance he’s accepting that

Tim Kelly was more valuable. We had too many players just holding on, to lose him was to risk the end of an era (with hindsight WCE was in the same position). Covid saved our ass. Gave us a longer pre-season and a shorter season and games.

You don't even want to hold onto Curnow, gravity wants your list to move in one way, he is heading the otherway.
Weitering, Mckay, Cerra and Walsh (to a lessor extent) are in a similar boat. Your team hit its demographic peak but it wasn't good enough/luck didn't go your way/Voss didn't get the full potential out of your players/all three

Teams can't be strong all of time, if you spread your resources over a longer period of time you just stay in place. You had pick 3 last year, You're going to have a pick 3 next year. That's half a core to start a rebuild around.

Much more than the picks on offer, the money he'd free up is much more valuable you could bank that for half a decade rolling it over until your team is ready to contend. You still have your future picks, him leaving changes their value. There is now space in the 22 to develop a KPF while McKay is still going strong enough. Then you get our picks, and there is a chance we overreached and fall apart.

Yes it was mentioned a while back. Perhaps helpful to remind people of it today though.

This is the impression I get too. Tabling all 3 first rounders is more of a statement than a likely deal, knowing that Blues probably won't accept anyway.

We know that Curnow wants to come, and we like to facilitate those deals. This is us saying we are serious about getting you. We are not leaving you out in the cold while we haggle and bargain with St. Kilda over the Marshall deal. We're willing to abandon that and more to get you. If the deal doesn't work out, it's completely on Carlton. Given none of our players likely want to go to Carlton, we've put the best offer forward we could while trying to keep all players happy.

Simultaneously, this sends a message to St. Kilda. We're not going to **** around discussing picks with you. We put forward a fair deal to them for a player they no longer need and are likely to play in his preferred position, one who they have essentially replaced, and they're trying to get cute with the picks. This is telling them that we could just go ahead and trade out all our decent picks, and then they can take Marshall as a disgruntled player.

I personally don't see the point in keeping players like Steele and Marshall if they're being played in the VFL or out of position respectively, but anyway... Think they could use a first rounder in any draft to address other key areas of weakness, of which they have several.

100 %.
If you think back to 2022 we offered 18 for henry. Collingwood started dicking around and said it wasn't enough.
So we quickly traded the pick for bruhn as gws were willing to do a clean deal.
Then Collingwood asked for the future 1st. We traded the future 2nd away to lock the future 1st and then said to Collingwood 'all we have is lesser picks take it or leave it' (luckily for Collingwood hawthorn bailed them out but our intent was clear).
This is the same thing here. We dont like how st kilda are doing this (they have had plenty of time to know Marshall was going and agree a price, he tried to get here last year and they knew this would be his ask when tdk came) negotiations so we are sticking the finger up at them and showing we won't be bullied.

I dont think we will get curnow because one of our A grade players would have to want to go for Carlton to think its an offer they want. But it sends the right message.

We just need to move the ball from contested space to outside runners better and kick it to our forwards. Maybe someone who moves it sideways, more carapace than pace.
FIFY

Absolutely. That’s further reaching into that space that Curnow is done with Carlton and this is the best they’ll get

Yeah id rather trade stengle or close because i think we cover that easier than sdk. Key defenders are harder to find.

Don't worry, I've been reliable informed that losing SDK won't hurt as we can use guys like Blicacs (198cm) or Kolodjashij (193cm) to match up against the King twins (202cm) and even Darcy (208cm) 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

With Darcy's athleticism & reach, Kolodjasnij would be on a hiding to nothing trying to defend him

Why doesn't Curnow just come out and nominate us as his destination club, say he isn't going to Sydney and put pressure on the Blues, if they make him stay he sulks and refuses to perform all while getting paid huge $$$

Would laugh if he comes out tomorrow and says he wants to play for WCE 😎
