This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

If we are smart we will move on very quickly from this. Essendon did what they did and tbh are well within their rights to do so. Being salty at them and throwing the toys out of the cot is pretty lame really. In the end you always have to control what you can control and be prepared for the worst from other parties. Our coaching and list management teams now need to be creative with what we have at hand and what is still available out there to plug the holes and find new solutions. Necessity is often the mother of invention.

Probably not unless we were desperate for Sharp/Cumming. But you never know.

Just wanted to see what Hawks fans thought though. Appreciate the responses.
The price has been set at 4 x 1sts and a 2nd for all future trades with the hawthorn football club.😉
But seriously it’s about an even trade assuming you finish around the top 4. I laid out some trades with north and suns to get 15 with norths and suns f2 which on DVI would be similar to crows f1. I would be inclined to take it to the draft as there are good players and expect given the evenness of it receive a better offer live.

Problem now is that Essendon will be seen as a club that does not act in good faith. Rosa and team probably survive as people won't want to go and work there given what has just happened.
Rosa stated repeatedly that Merrett wasn’t up for trade.

He has two years left to go on his current contract.

They refused to trade him.

How did Essendon not act in good faith?

It's not saying that at all :laughv1::laughv1::laughv1:

Thanks for the AI slop, what about this bit
" And it showed that if clubs like Hawthorn want a player of Merrett’s calibre, they actually have to stump up some decent players and make a genuine offer..."

Not saying some if it isn't interesting,or positive about Merrett tho

I'm reliably informed we have done our due diligence on him, so don't be too surprised if we give him a chance.
In these circumstances, have the club done their due diligence on themselves.

JUH will live with Hardwick and their IPDM, Harbrow. Depending on circumstances, this could be part of a good approach or create challenges.

(Would anyone on here be told they had to live somewhere, with certain people? I guess some jobs have it but not because of these concerns)

The contract clause idea is fine but also the reactionary part.

I’d say most if not all clubs are ill-equipped. Success will have luck.

If HFC think a culture alone gets it done, that saying about doing the same thing over and over applies.

Agree with this. Needs to improve his competitiveness as a start. Clug was similar, Clug is who I see.

I know he wasn't great this year Worps, but an already weak clearance group is weaker. Mackenzie doesn't replace that as it's not a strength at all yet. Wardy is OK, but never going to be an elite clearance player. Cuts you up by foot and runs all day.

Nash should be on notice. Average year like worps. Butler lacks the height but could actually offer more as a defensive mid. Could emulate Tom Atkins this kid imo.

Day is elite at clearance but remains to be seen if we play him consistently mid.

Oddly think Hustwaite will benefit most from Worpel leaving as his one wood is first possession clearance and we will continue to need to get the ball on the outside to our biggest weapons.

Hate to say it, and couldn't predict it, but Long would actually be handy on the list. Competitive bugger. Would be keen for us to find a VFL version of that to be on the list as an option. Maybe Finn like others suggest

Nash actually played really well in the Geelong prelim.

He got license to attack the footy since Newk was getting tagged and Worps was having a stinker. We love what he can do defensively but I'd love to see him get a shot and be a primary ball hunter.

Honestly the blaming of everyone else that goes in here is kind of nauseating. "Essendon are underhanded". "There is an anti-Hawthorn media cabal that are out to get us". Honestly. We have agency in the whole affair also. We took a punt and it failed. Thats just how the cards fell. Its done now. We really need to move on from the whole thing. If there is any reflection that needs to get done its what we could have done differently.

Now that trade period is over and Merrett is stuck playing for the s**t truck that is the scum, are there any decent delisted FA that might be worth taking a punt on?
Theres some decent depth options that will be dfa’s. Not going to bother posting any as there would be dickheads that straight away reply with ‘if he was any good **** wouldn’t have delisted him’ or ‘but he’s a dickhead, I heard from a mates mate…’.

And I have no idea who the club would want, we have decent depth in most positions. Maybe a winger and small forward/flanker?

The Bombers vetoed their own list managers planned deal, after Hawthorn agreed to give Rosa what would help him upgrade picks to gain Pick 1.

Petroro wasn’t storming around in the Hawks room because someone ate the last snake.

Come on people, don't be so stupid. Why would Carlton get rid of a talented young player all the while lacking in talent?? Hollands has had his chance at two clubs and absolutely ****ed up big time over and over again. This stupid rhetoric about him staying at home , drinking himself to depression is bollocks. It's the opposite, drinking is the least of his problems and funnily enough, remembering his home address was a bigger problem on most nights. Would fit in well with the scum.

Which is crazy because Welsh could have sold the tale of refusing the trade until being able to get pick 1 which was just too good to refuse.

And everyone would have agreed it was genius.

Instead he is a media genius who will set back the club years while everyone pats him on his back.

if you find what I wrote offensive or "nauseating", I think you better reconsider your choice of online forum then, my dude.

Not sure I said anything about anti-Hawks media cabals or whatnot, but whatever floats your boat - carry on (though you may want to not paste too much Chat GTP slop here in case you get in trouble :)

Rosa was trying to get the best deal available for Zerrett. He and his team were wanting to get a very strong draft hand that would allow them to trade with WCE for pick #1, that was his plan all along.

I won't reveal my source publicly, but I have never been one to bullshit on here, so take that to the bank mate.

Even if you don't want to believe me you could see it all play out in real time during the coverage. Everyone's reactions said it all.

No man, im not accusing you personally. You just claimed that the article was being somehow flattering of Essendon which it really wasn't at all. Quite the opposite actually so i called it out. My last comment was a general observation about the tone of the commentary in here. Some of it is bordering on paranoid delusional. Especially the "theyre out to get us" stuff. Everyone is always entitled to their opinions but also I think its healthy to counter balance irrational claims.

I'm glad we knocked back the 4 first round picks for Merrett, which I think 3 first round picks for a 30 year old was way over.

Why If anyone follows the English Premier League, Manchester City is very Rich and clubs know this so players are more expensive for them, which they call city tax.

If city come in for a player he is more expensive then if the same player is sold to another club and city doesn't come in for him.

I feel if we had accepted 4 first round picks and got Merrett, clubs in the future would have asked a lot more for there players in a trade, because we are happy to pay whatever if we want the player.

It’s the offseason and we have a whole month until draft day, this will be milked for a while yet.

If anything it’s reignited the rivalry
