Depends. If he were Geordie Sholl and any good he'd probably be tied to Sydney.
The Doc probably not close enough.

The reason I say this is that he has a son that never appeared on our list.

However
Crocker - Coach
Archer - Board member
Stevens - Board member
Harvey - dev coach

Joel - bust
Jackson - Injury prone never looked it at VFL seems ok at the level
River - he's wafer thin
Cooper - been borderline delisted twice.

Bailey Scott almost stands alone in that his old man wasn't at the club in the lead up to his draft.

I mean I am not sure we need to say that there is undue influence here but when you take this as a view it kind seems like it.

This is such a fantastic place. I have no idea whether River will make it as an AFL Player or not, but don't we just love to write people off almost before they have learnt to utter the words "Go Roos".

We should really rename this Board, "The Write Them Off Before We Give Them a Chance" Board.

Of course all of us were geniuses/champions/experts on the very first day of each and every position we were ever recruited to. Weren't we??

Oh well.

We practically take every father son to get er have available- just a coincidence that their fathers had a role at the club at the time

I think you’ve got to take into account that most of them didn’t even get into the Coates leagues.

Can’t mention them
I mean ok I won't argue about moving the goal posts.

Are we taking Archer Grant in this upcoming draft? he'd probably be about as speculative as River is.

River did play Vic Country. He wasn't completely off the radar.

I don't really have a problem with any of those guys being rookied, they'd all probably shown enough to take a punt. But adding them to the main list makes no sense at all. Other than Scott, none of them were even bid on.

No issue taking speculative kids with appropriate picks.

the core of the issue I have is that we spend list spots as favours to fathers who work at the club for their sons to get a crack.

It points to an immaturity within the organisation and an unwillingness to have what is possibly a difficult conversation.

😄😄We don't need them facts...

I don't disagree with you, as well an AFL club is certainly more business than a footy club, but the romance of the Father/Son/Daughter aspect is quite possibly the only throwback that is a continuation of a local footy club tradition. I think your wording of "appropriate picks" is quite valid.
In 20 years time, young Wilberforce Spargo, a young man with some football nous, from the Murray Region might garnish himself a Father/Son Rookie list spot, whilst at the same time, highly regarded and sought after city kid, Oswald Larkey, might draw himself an instant Senior List spot due to his demand.
I think we could also be list focused more so this year as we've just dropped the 2 extra spots ... idk. Nepotism maybe, but it's still a football club.
Will River come good, he's neat enough, hopefully another year'll add weight to the "yes" argument.

Can’t remember grant being anything more than a sub 10 possession player - while river got in the 20s a few times with multiple goals. Plus he played rep footy

That was my recollection, his first Snr game I was like, who is this manic kid? He was a bit Wardlaw like in that he just scrapped for the ball - wasn't too skilful just hard at it.
I remember David Parkin talking about about Stevo. He called him a dumb runner in his early days, basically said he was like a dog chasing a car. But that he then went on to develop his game sense and became one of our most important players.

These guys were all taken with low, speculative picks and undeniably all had at least one AFL level trait, which is all you need for late picks.

Archer defends like his life depends on it. River can navigate traffic. Cooper can kick a goal with his eyes closed. Worth the punt just as much as any kid at that pick range

It's actually kinda sad seeing some of the names of Great/Good ex-North players on that list, and that their kids weren't good enough to make it to the AFL.

We're due some Pies/Lions level gifting of F/S talent.

Who out of the delisted players is better than cooper
We would've been more likely to see a change in attitude from Payne than Cooper, especially given his improved VFL form towards the end. He isn't better atm but he could easily have been by halfway through next year. Now we'll never know.

Cooper has not exhausted his laurel supply by any means. Plenty more to rest on
