Dan Batten and Chris Cavanagh's take on who we may look at tonight.

However, the Bombers knocked back that offer to snap up Sharp with what was their third pick in the draft. The Crows will make one or two selections on night two, given they need to hold over a list spot to grab Callum Ah Chee in the pre-season draft on Friday. They have been linked to big-bodied midfielders Riley Onley and Ollie Greeves, as well as another key forward in Cody Curtin – the younger brother of current Crow Dan. If Archie Ludowyke slid all the way into 40s, they would be a big chance to snap him up.
This is better

Would take Onley or Greeves in the 30’s (if we trade up), probably prefer Onley but would be happy either way

I don't think they have anymore list spots. Ah Chee via PSD and the promise of picking Welsh in rookie list and that's it.
one more senior list spot than that. Ogilvie mentioned supplementary spot, but if someone too good to pass up is there at our 3rd pick????

I don’t think either of them will set the world on fire.

We took one with pick 4 in a strong early midfielders draft whilst Essendon took theirs with a Gallucci value pick in a supposed crap and compromised draft. Unfortunately you might be right, I expect our particularly development strategy having mids focus on their deficiencies will severely lower Draper’s ceiling. He’ll be Jones’d, almost nothing more certain.

As nice as it would have been to get Sharp, there is something to be said for letting non-SA clubs invest big in SA talent and then trying to lure them back home in a few years on the cheap. All those SA boys going in the first round, surely at least one or two of them will get homesick, right?

As for not addressing our midfield needs, the trade period was the time to do that, not the draft. We have already invested heavily in drafting top-end midfield talent in the last couple of years. We need to be drafting to address the needs we'll have in 3-4 years time.

I still can’t believe Laird ended up in the midfield in the finals.

Absolute clown show stuff.
Didn't even attempt to try Curtin.

Embarrassed Shame GIF

It's better than the one you'll be forced to agree to in 3 years time.

You know we're already in his ear...and will continue to be.
Of course you would be in his ear and you have every right to do so but I’ve known the lad most of his life and has always wanted to get to us and is super excited to get to Essendon and start work.
Who knows what happens down the track.

Yeah, Essendon was worst case scenario for us in terms of trying to lure him back. Was really hoping Melbourne would take him if we couldn't.

Premiership Pie Mason Cox will land at Freo as a SSP rookie signing. Delisted Crow Harry Schoenberg will do the same at West Coast. Both skipped nominating for the draft so can sign through SSP.

I think Harry will become a regular next season with WCE. Cox will be handy.

That's what makes you wonder the reasoning why we want to resign him asap.
No person with a decent IQ would fall for re-signing Nicks early for a 2nd time.

It's not like another club will pinch him.

What confusing?

Tex has about 15 games left in his career. Finbar is just a backup, Welsh is unlikely to make it.

Thilthorpe, Fogarty and Marsh are our three forwards of the future with smalls surrounding them.

Fair - but we need a lightning quick small pressure forward, elite running half back wing with ball skills and another big inside mid to replace Mrouch.

Happy to get good forwards but a lead up ~190cm forward to me is just underwhelming. I hope Marsh is good but I'm just being realistic.

My point RE Ah Chee was not that he is replacing Tex like for like, but for balance of our forward line I'd rather he play as the third medium/mobile forward as opposed to a 'third tall'.

We saw in finals 3 talls doesn't work.
