Guys, you'll be glad to know his 20m AFL combine sprint time of 2.952, puts him smack bang in the sweet spot for the AFL crazy/hot matrix study, which showed the mean range of elite AFL players' 20m sprint times were 2.94-3.01s.*

You're going to get some bang out of the bucks from that research aren't you.

Man, Peel is all of a sudden gonna be so much more fun to watch with Kickett, Sweid, Luke and Murray as options.
Charlie Nicholls will be fun to watch this year if Peel can improve their kicking like they should with the new recruits. Last year he was missed on the lead a ton.

I was thinking the same, Peel sucked this season because they often had no Freo forwards. Nearly the whole forward line will be Freo forwards now!
Peel are going to have a much better season in 2026, even more so due t9 Mason Cox plus Davies and Murphy being a year older.

Only concern down there may be midfield grunt.
My exact thoughts, would be nice if Peel could somehow recruit just one other genuine WAFL mid because it could be grim out of the middle otherwise

speaking of research, I was surprised to read today Kysaiah Pickett's 20m sprint combine time was only 3s flat. I consider him one of the quickest players in the AFL. Onfield speed really shows up in different ways to testing, if seems. I note the SA talent manager at the time laughed about the testing results, and said if you put a ball in front of Kosi he chases harder than running from point A to point B. Based on the footage of Kickett ball hunting, I reckon he might be similar.

They have been recruiting hard from VFL and some of the new recruits are midfielders. Also the captain (Ben Hancock) will be back from knee injury.

I’d expect Jager OM to be back at Peel a bit.

I feel like a bit of an issue with the sprint test is the different type of reaction time it measures - reaction (and ultimately time) from a starting beep is a different thing to an instinctive on-field reaction time. They correlate, obviously, but you may be appreciably quicker off the mark with one compared to the other.

yep I think thats a good point. That's where the footy IQ/anticipation/game awareness and speed come together. Might explain why such a high proportion of the athletes (as opposed to footballers) that test so well at the combine often seem incapable of exhibiting those traits regularly onfield.

Well, West Coast DO have a Reid I'd like to have punched....

But seriously, this is awesome.

Slower than average then.
Why do we keep drafting slugs?

The 20m isn't measured from a beep - the player takes off when they're ready and the timer starts when they cross the start line gate.

But that just reinforces your point even more - it doesn't measure reaction time at all which is what makes some guys look so much quicker on-field.

From a standing start? Players are often already moving when they start sprinting on field wonder how that affects their speed

Yeah crouched over the starting gate. And depending how strict the tester is they're not supposed to do a 'bounce back' movement as they take off either, instead they're meant to drive straight forwards using minimal elastic rebound.

It measures a very specific type of acceleration and speed that obviously isn't 1:1 with what happens on field.

Here's 1.7 million dollar man (and I'd suggest one of the quickest players in the comp) Kosi pumping out that 3s 20m Sprint in 2019. Again, as the SA Talent Manager suggested..not much real indication of what happens once you whack a ball to hunt in front of him...you can see why it's really only so useful....

I hope the club tells Leon that the Kickett-Reid fued doesn't extend within the walls of our own club otherwise first day of pre-season will be intense.
