I often rant about Pommy commentators when we aren't even playing the soap dodgers, but fair enough when we are against the nancies, but why is there a Pommy chick doing the presentation?

The pitch is. There was some genuinely elite bowling on tricky wickets in the West Indies. There's some genuine mental gymnastics going on the justify this as a dangerous pitch.

There's always tricky pitches and elite new ball bowling and that's why it's a test for batsmen to have to get through to when conditions are easier and the ball is older.

He’s 39, injured and currently massively out of form.

If you can’t punt a guy like that why be a selector?

“Khawaja, Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland, coach Andrew McDonald and selection chair George Bailey were among the members of the home team and support staff who took to the links on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Ashes opener. It was Khawaja’s third round of the week after also playing on Tuesday and Wednesday”.

I had a mate who left for Bali from Sydney at 1:30pm today about 10 mins into the days play.

He landed about 45 mins ago and just checked the score when he landed.

He goes wtf happened and did i just skip a day in the air haha.

Sitting in the bus on the way home and this is easily the best match I have been to live. And is up there with the famous Adelaide win as plucking a result when it never seemed possible.

I entered the ground thinking the game was lost and the Ashes all
but gone, and exit the stadium with the broadest smile you can imagine.
Travis Head you star. All the momentum with us now heading to BrisVegas.

As far as I'm concerned, Isa Guha can do the whole thing on her own, best female commentator on the planet.

3 rounds in the week followed by not being able to move throughout the game... not the best look.

What was worse was his selection in the first place.

Head should open in the next test. Bring in Webster or another bat who can grow into the role at 5 or 6.

The modern approach seeks to placate more than plan or god forbid implement a strategy.

Usman has been a good player. He deserves respect for that, he doesn't deserve a Steve Waugh farewell tour. Thank him, do a presentation at his home ground and move on.

Head up to opener. Green up to 5. Webster in at 6 or 7. Nothing lost and we'll have 5 tall quicks with the pink ball.

Yep tap him on the shoulder.

Thanks for your service Uzzie you can do the lap of honour at the Gabba during the tea break in your CA polo

Bailey will be thrilled with that innings. It’ll give him a chance to bring Marsh back in to open with Head dropping back to 5.
Travis will bat wherever Travis wants, and he won't want to upset Usman. Guarantee it. That's how it rolls in this team.

One of the very best, full stop. Outstanding knowledge of the game and great play by play commentary.

That'll do Trav, that'll do.

They can not seriously go with Ussie next test, he's just unfortunately done at the level and cant face over 140kph anymore.

Head unusually candid on wanting to open in post game interviews as well.

Only cause for concern would be having two overly aggressive openers, though it obviously worked today...

Do yourself a favour and read a few of the English papers description of this loss, oh boy wow wee.
When England emerged for what turned out to be the final session of the match, they were still favourites. A target of 205 seemed stiff for Australia. Only 28.5 overs later, it was all done. England had been Trav-balled.

They have witnessed England's worst Test defeat in Australia for years and the first two-day Ashes Test since 1921.

There have been some doozies. Bowled out for 68 by Scott Boland four years ago. Terrorised by Mitchell Johnson in 2013-14. Spun out by Shane Warne after declaring on 551-6 in Adelaide in 2006.

This hits different. England had a golden opportunity to pounce in Perth, win their first Test in this country for 14 years and their first away Ashes opener since 1986.

Instead, the shiny new Perth Stadium has turned out to be just the same as the Waca - dripping in English disappointment. Only one win in 15 visits to this city in 55 years.

Just after 1pm local time, England were 105 runs ahead with nine second-innings wickets in hand. Australia had been bowled out for 132 in their first innings. The pitch had made batters an endangered species.

Four and a half hours later, England had lost by eight wickets. And that included 20 minutes for tea. Deckchairs show more resistance to folding
