Oh my god, I hope the team is more united than some of the recent posters in this thread.

False bravado, looking for cheap likes & sniping players who give their all to the club. It's pathetic.

To all who provide legitimate pre-season training updates, I thank you profusely. The descriptions are amazing and for us in the country, it is a god send.

There does seem to be a low number of reports compared to previous years. I know its obviously very early on but Ill be attending less in the coming weeks so hopefully others will contribute. It does look like Friday 11-12iam will be where full match sims take place eg 18 on 18. Most of the training match sims are 10 on 10 or 14 on 14. The smaller number match sims make players cover plenty of ground and work on leading patterns.

Ive always appreciated when others have done the same and currently Im working part time so I have the time over the next two weeks.

In light of the lack of training reports I'll add more info if I think of it after doing a report.

Eg. One thing Ive noticed but haven't said is how LJ training almost exclusively midfield when not rucking. So rarely forward.

Freddy's been doing a ton of laps in the last two sessions while covering a ton of ground in the match sim I watched him play roaming deep into defence at times. Im confident he will play at least a bit of wing considering how much running he's doing.

Johnson and Erasmus seem to be training more as outside players then in the on ball groups. Wagner and O'Meara were chosen to be on ball ahead of them in the full match sim.

O'Meara is joining in all the running unlike previous preseasons he's had with us. He definitely looks significantly quicker in repeat sprint work as he was leading the pack in one of the sprint drills.

Kicket has made a great start to his preseason and his running is way better than I expected as I thought repeat running was his weakness reading g the draft profiles.

Curious to hear how Nicholls is progressing: what position he is in? Are they bulking him up? Are they developing his mobility?

Thank you for the report! I don't understand JOM being prioritised over Erasmus and Johnson on the inside, that seems ludicrous.

maybe because they have the height to take contested grabs? they will be the skinny side winger, so still a lot of running but not like the sharp/NOD side. also think I'd prefer JOM shovelling it out to Ras and Johnno than the other way around. once they get some confidence in pulling off direct i50s ...there will be so many ships docking in freo it will cause an international shipping crisis bigger than the blocked suez canal

As long as the leuwin stays safe this time

Think its less about "we want JOM to play inside mid" as it is about "we want to upskill Johnson and Erasmus as wingers".

Id be very surprised if Jaeger isnt at Peel the vast majority of the year, with the ability to come in and play a variety of roles if needed (due to injury or suspension)

We seem to really prioritise leadership and experience, on account of average team age. Not saying I agree with it; I'm pretty firmly on the record backing in Johnno and Ras. But keep in mind, if JOM is out this year, and Banners is displaced by McVee, our average age probably steps backwards.

JOM is an auto selection for our match comittee, because he is a reliable role player and somewhat flexible. He's in the leadership group, though that can change. I expect he'll be playing AFL.

Ideally, our younger mids perform roles so effectively they force the match committee to evolve.

Playing lists evolve.
With an increased onball role for Jackson and Murph, plus a full year from Young it makes it much harder to play Jaeger. You're not playing him as a half forward who has onball splits and those midfield minutes just wont be there for him this year (injuries and suspension aside).
Johnson and Erasmus have the same positional versatility Jaeger has, and with JOMs fading finish to last year you could make a case those two have already gone past him.
If one of the three is relegated to depth in my eyes thats Jaeger

I don't understand any comment that prioritises name over performance.

In a new year, everything is reset. If JOM has improved his running and is genuinely a better option than of course he plays.

The inside/centre bounce will have Brayshaw, Serong, Young, Jackson rotating. Cameos from Bolton. Not sure where Reid will play if getting more midfield minutes. There's not much room for any others.

At full strength, Johnson and Ras have to mostly play wing/flanker roles. They can still do some inside work for stoppages around the ground. I don't think Ras is good in the more open spaces of a centre bounce, but is good in other stoppages that have more congestion and his leg speed isn't exposed.

So, maybe JOM is only training as a back up option, while Johnson and Ras are training as locks in the 23 in a different role. However, I will only believe JOM is out of the preferred 23 when I see it.

JOM was decent this season but I wouldn't say he was a threat imo. Johnson and Erasmus are much more use to us playing on the opposition's number one mid and protecting our smaller mids. Johnno in particular played well in this role and we solely missed him during the final.

I don’t understand the hate personally.

I like Banfield. He’s flexible, and does genuinely pull out some good moments. Is the sort of guy who could totally have a blinder in a big game. OTOH, I cringe when he has time and space to make a decision… much better without it!

Since coming over, Jaeger has played 57 AFL games and 1 WAFL game, with his 1 WAFL game being last season when coming back from injury. If people are expecting him to play WAFL they are setting themselves up for disappointment

Of the 57 afl games he’s played for us. You could count on your fingers the number of games he was top 10 for us based on performance. Probably on one hand. He’s a best been a bench player, his spot in the team is clearly up for grabs. I don’t care if he’s improved his straight line running, his agility and lateral movement has been his shortfall.
