Green's batting is plumbing Mitch Marsh (i.e. WoaT) levels of awfulness. How long can the selectors continue picking him on the basis of "potential", given that his actual red ball achievements can be written on the back of a postage stamp while still leaving room for the glue.

** Green, like Marsh, has an excellent record in limited overs cricket. I have no issue with him being selected in the ODI or T20I teams. But his batting in Test matches leaves a lot to be desired.

Surely Archer is carrying something. I saw him hobbling a bit yesterday in the outfield.

Not sure why everyone is getting stuck into him so much seeing as he's been one of England's best players.
He has... but that's a low bar to be judging him against.

He may be England's best bowler, but he still wouldn't be making it into the Team of the Series. He'd be behind Starc, Bolland, Cummins and possibly Neser.

The reason they get stuck into him is because he comes with a massive reputation, which he rarely lives up to. Mostly, it's based on his ability to bowl seriously quick deliveries, rather than his record of actually taking wickets.

His (international) white-ball record is respectable without being anywhere near outstanding. One of his two white-ball centuries was with the ball.

His big strength is that he scores very quickly. But currently he would be behind Tim David for the low order slogger for mine.

I think he's been better than you're giving him credit for. Has had a few poor sessions, which separates him from Starc and Bolland for sure.

Has made some runs as well.

Nah, you give Green all the time he needs. His career has been a little stop start via injuries and he has come back from a long lay off but Green is genuine class, he will get there.

He'd want to, given the amount of time they've invested in him. I hope you're right, but I fear that he'll turn out to be our Great White Whale.

not a close follower of cricket but Carey in mine player of the series
Nah... Starc has him covered fairly comfortably. He's probably won the MotS already, after the first 2 Tests.

Carey & Head would be 2nd in the MotS votes, but both well behind Starc based on the series to date.

Archer just doesn't do it consistently. He was excellent in the 1st innings in Perth. He was OK (good at times, garbage at times) in the 1st innings in Adelaide. He was crap in Brisbane, and hasn't taken an wicket in the 2nd innings in any of the 3 Tests so far.

Yes, Archer has made runs - with some significant assistance from the Australian bowlers, particularly in Brisbane where they didn't want to get him out (as they didn't want the Australian openers having to open under lights). His primary job is to take wickets, and so far he's done a mediocre job of that at best (while still being better than any of the other English bowlers).

Starc is MotS so far, and would easily be the 1st bowler picked. Bolland is next best, on the basis of consisten quality bowling. Neser played well in Brisbane, but that's likely to be his only Test for the series. Doggett was asked to do the dog work, bowling short when he's by nature a line/length nibbler - it's no surprise that his rewards have been limited. Then we have Cummins, who didn't play the first 2 tests, but who immediately made Australia's bowling line up more threatening when he returned from injury (taking 3 wickets in the first innings).

Yes
Starc has 20+ wickets and valuable runs
Head 2 100's
